Never fails to make me laugh when I read reviews of this album that slag it as less the first two efforts from The Band. If you are curious and haven't heard the Stage Fright disc a few times, do so and don't pay any mind to the negative reviews. You'll find a gem.
@killalavilla agreed. the first three The Band albums are all incredible. Personally I think Big Pink is probably their masterpiece, but there is not a lot to choose between the three of them. I've never understood the reviews that say Stage Fright is a drop off from the other two. These three, along with Rock of Ages are some of the greatest and most diverse music ever recorded.
About 40 years later, today, I became 23 again today. I've just learned that you tube carries all my music...been dancing and loving the day...there's history in every song I love these guys.
In 1970, when I was 13, my oldest sister's boyfriend left this and several other albums at our house. I listened to it every day. How lucky I was! It's wonderful to hear all three singers on this song, especially Richard Manuel, who shows his incomparable range of both pitch and feeling.
From 3'23" - 3'50" that's the best moment of singing in the entire era (from '54 to present) with utter peak at 3'37 - Rick's 'let it roll away..' on top of Richards'.
ah, the cd before the remaster had an awesome break after richard sings 'it's comin', a brand new day'. thank god i have that, because it makes the song perfect.

Think I read that Graham Parker named his band The Rumour as a tip of the hat to the Band.

Hard to follow up a MASTERPIECE. But this album is haunted and haunting. Robbie's veiled response to stardom.

'Close your eyes
Hang down your head
Until the fog rolls away
Let it roll away...'
