Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (often called Mahatma Gandhi) was assassinated on 30 January 1948, shot at point-blank range by Nathuram Godse.

@Glassesmaketheman Yes, it is a semitone lower than the studio version. Like with many other U2 songs live, they do it to suit Bono's voice. I suppose for hitting those high notes a bit more comfortably (for him !).
@Glassesmaketheman This performance is 1/2-step down. Recording is in B major, this is B-flat major (same as Rattle and Hum & Zoo TV Sydney), from PopMart onward it's been played a full step down in A major.
@ssurfcity you must remember that Democrats ran the congress, held the majority of governorships, state houses on down to mayors, city councils, etc. when Jim Crow laws were passed in the south. A liberal democrat President ordered Japanese U.S. citizens to internment camps during WWII. It took Republican votes to pass the Civil Rights act. Look up Senator Edward Dirksen, there is a building in D.C. named after him. Education is free, look into it.

I really wish more people my age would give U2 a chance. I've known them all my life, and some of these kids I go to high school with can't even name one of their songs. Such a shame. They truly are ageless, though - they will find a way through people like me. They will transcend lifetimes and last generations.

@BenderPictures These guys and Rush are my official favorite bands....OK, I was mainly their hardcore fan, spending money on them and listening to them all the time and having posters when I was teen more than as a grown woman but I still love them and still listen to them even though I have enjoyed many newer bands as well.
@BenderPictures Yeah, I'm 18 and most of my musial comfort zone doesnt extend beyond the 80's-90's. Don't get me wrong, I keep an open mind an ear, and will always try new things, but at the end of the day I always go back to bands like U2, RUSH, and Iron Maiden.
@BenderPictures dude... im 13... same as you.. been exposed to them my whole entire life...i grew up on anything 90s and below......im in 8th grade... and no body even knows who Aerosmith is unless they played guitar hero.... hell half of them haven't even heard of the rolling stones.....

@LDZPLEN Nope. I barely remember the 90s at all. I'm saying I was exposed to it back then, or must have been. My dad listened to U2 most of his life, and onward into the 2000s. That's what I'm getting at.
@BenderPictures I have exactly the same story. My girlfriend's mom is a huge U2 fan and she was blown away when she found out I listened to them, which is kinda disappointing in my opinion. They are some of the most talented and influential bands of our time.
@BenderPictures right on man. Im 16 as well and ive listened to u2 all my life on the radio and stuff, but ive really gotten into them recently. Bono's pure emotion in his voice gives me goosebumps
U2, They have always had a poltical and caring influence about speading a good sence of humanity thru their music. But, after a U2 concert, does it really change the world. Raising money is a great concept for the needy. But soon, will he be raising money for America? SC
I was at the Nürburgring concert of U2 in 1985. Bono was climbing the huge stage setup, a not at all obviously safe undertaking, to a height of about 15 m, and was singing Pride from up there, to a mesmerized crowd of 70.000 people. An unforgettable experience, and one of the greatest ever I had visiting a concert.
33 dislikes??? haters of this beauty and power are a miserable lot indeed. what sort of twisted bile must run through the heart of someone to dislike this????
@MrUndercoverblues Bono or is it Godo....the man is a prick, just like sting, look into your hero a little deeper, you will find out what he is all about. He should stick to what he is good at singing and being a complete shirt front. Now go a play with your mothers tits, thats if you know who the slag bitch is you fucking donut.
@skydannymonty No, Bono is no God and he can be a megalomaniac for sure. But U2 make brilliant music and good music is good music if it's done by Bach, U2 or Springsteen or whomever. It's amazing how bold you guys are online with your insults; you suffer from internet steroid syndrome, where kiddies seem to grow 20 lbs of muscle and gain 5 inches in height online. In person, I tear you a new one.
@spackhollogay I guess? I meant it less as an insult as bewilderment. To me, I don't get how someone can watch that performance and be so hateful and in my opinion, ignorant. It's like not enjoying a sunset on the water or a cool breeze on a warm summer eve, or cherry blossoms in the spring. In other words, it takes real hard work to dislike any of those things... and so it does with this performance and song.
@MrUndercoverblues I personally think this is the best performance of their best song, but at the end of they day not everyone does, and the fact that they dislike shouldn't be cause for calling them miserable.
I hate watching this! They were so good!!! The band is a joke today. They peaked in1987 and everything after is ridiculous. Bono CAN NOT sing anymore. terrible voice. If they had any balls --- They would tour the TRIO -- Boy October War. They are spineless artists. They would never consider it. Paul and Dave (what is a Bono or Edge?) always tell us to donate our money. Why don't you donate some of your 100s of millions. Playing a concert is not a donation
please to the people with negative comment .Why not go listen to the bands you like rather than downgrade u2 and there followers.U2 are and always be a great band
Also compare 1989 Seattle version of Metallica with more recent offerings, not as good it shows that youth is a fleeting thing and that you have to give your best when you are young
@SkinMechanic65 - Don't have time for you mate if you can't have a conversation without insulting. Go get a life and learn to respect other people's views. If you think U2 are amongst the best ever then that's fine by me. There was a time when I did appreciate their music, but in MY opinion they went the wrong way and became too commercial. I like music for other reasons besides all the commercial and multimedia that goes with most bands nowadays, but you are free to have your own views.
@SkinMechanic65 - An idiot, why? Because I don't rate U2 amongst the best bands ever? There must be a lot of idiots in this world then, because I have never heard any professional musician (and let me tell you I have spoken to quite a few in my time) ever mention that U2 where amongst the best groups ever. Read the whole thread and you'll realize why I listed all those tracks. Maybe your ignorant generation will finally learn something, but in the mean time, insult all you want my friend!
Holy shit you spammers are stupid. If you aren't convinced that U2 is awesome, I'd advise you to stop watching these videos, which happen to have "U2" in the title. Next time "read" the titles before you click to watch something. wankers.
Cool video and one of their best performances ever!!!!

@androydnyc No problem, I've been corrected before and always appreciate those that do.
I would suggest watching the film Gandhi as it was beautifully filmed, written and acted with Ben Kingsley playing Gandhi.
On your comment about being political, absolutely. It's what many real artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and others.
I would ask you to read the lyrics online to Bob Dylan's

U2, They have always had a poltical and caring influence about speading a good sence of humanity thru their music. But, after a U2 concert, does it really change the world. Raising money is a great concept for the needy. But soon, will he be raising money for America? SC

I was at the Nürburgring concert of U2 in 1985. Bono was climbing the huge stage setup, a not at all obviously safe undertaking, to a height of about 15 m, and was singing Pride from up there, to a mesmerized crowd of 70.000 people. An unforgettable experience, and one of the greatest ever I had visiting a concert.

@MrUndercoverblues Maybe they just don't like the song?
spackhollogay 7 months ago
@spackhollogay I guess? I meant it less as an insult as bewilderment. To me, I don't get how someone can watch that performance and be so hateful and in my opinion, ignorant. It's like not enjoying a sunset on the water or a cool breeze on a warm summer eve, or cherry blossoms in the spring. In other words, it takes real hard work to dislike any of those things... and so it does with this performance and song.
MrUndercoverblues 7 months ago
@MrUndercoverblues I personally think this is the best performance of their best song, but at the end of they day not everyone does, and the fact that they dislike shouldn't be cause for calling them miserable.
spackhollogay 7 months ago
@spackhollogay well... read back some of the hateful comments in here and you might understand why I used the language I did.

JGBugs 1 year ago

Next time "read" the titles before you click to watch something. wankers.
