Congratulations, Rob!! This is one of the best airshow that i see, including the shows of low and mid wings! You have a beautiful arcraft, and show the combination of a trained pilot with a great aircraf. The result: this increadible performance.
The Ultimate Bipe was designed as a low dollar entry to akro airplane. As a beginner's plane it's amazing and presents a unique shape that's different from the '30s biplanes. They're so darn rare that few have flown them well or otherwise.
Dude, the Ultimate was designed as the ULTIMATE BIPLANE!!!!! It was a replacement for the pitts, but never caught on. this is the highest performance airplane in the world
not so great flying, pretty much over/under rotated on every manuvar. Very loose, and marginalal quality flying but very enertaining for airshow folks.
Spacedgurl, I'm not sure you realize the expertise required to make a machine weighing well over a ton move around like that in the air without getting killed.

The wings on that plane are junk...poor quality build, notoriously the fall apart. So I dont understand what I am talking about.....??? do you?? you don't seem like it. Well over a ton?? my ARSE!! this plane weighs in at around 1500 lbs max empty. My pitts S1-S weighs 900 lbs empty with 230HP. what about you? Still think I do not get it?

Anyway, I've ridden in one before, and I know that they are pretty light, but I didn't know they were THAT light. I'd love to own one myself someday. How did you get into it?
yah, that is most likely an Pitts S2-C with The horrible Square ultimate wings and 300+hp...my best guess...1300-1500lbs empty.
Anyways, I got into it cause I wanted a challenge. Regular flying got boring. I am a commerical pilot and still do some flight insturcting. But, nothing is more fun and challenging than this type flight.
I believe it IS an ultimate bipe. I know the pitts S2-C doesn't have its rudder and elevator as rounded as the S1-C, but also not as sqare as that of the ultimate (or triangular in the case of the fin and rudder). maybe you thought otherwise because of the large cockpit. The explanation for this fact is that this airplane is a two-seater.
I agree with you, the ultimate is a horrible plane. The Pitts S1-C is way cooler. Nevertheless I like the super skybolt the most.
now im just a poor ,lowly model flier,and considering the wind and other variables ,he did fine ,,he impressed the crowd,what id like to see is spacedgurl present us ,with a video of her superior flying skills,i do admit sex has nothing to do with skill, and females do tollerate high g s better than males ,i too have judjed iac contests ,so show us your stuff.
Actually,Its a Ultimate 20-300S, 1289lbs, 325hp at 2700rpm,Prop is actually turning 2900rpm,Not your typical wings on this plane and not the same wings as the original Ultimates. They are not fabric covered and are rigid wood skinned wings. It is basically the same plane as a 10-300s, but with two seats.
A wonderful airplane to fly. This show was in 3 miles (according to who I don't know) visibility (seemed less to me) and a ceiling and a raged cloud ceiling between 900ft and 1400ft. Definitly wasn't my best show, but,I tried to fit in everything I could safely fit in considering the conditions.
As far as "marginal quality flying",well maybe... But I also compete, am now on the the US Advance Aerobatic team for the 3rd time...and in 2006 flew an Ultimate (the supposedly horrible airplane) to a second place wining in the World Advanced Aerobatic Championships in Poland... Interesting, I was unaware that they made them wood skinned. I take back what I say about them, as I have only seen the fabric covered version, and have heard ALOT of very bad things about the fabric version.
