@IwillKillYourCereal It was. But ratings were still doing very well, and it was ordered for more seasons and everyone was so happy. Especially since there was more to tell, particularly to Laura Ingalls Wilder.
I love the Vicar's speech too.He brings tears to my eyes."I had no answer. The sight was being taken away from this child without any reason. And now she gonna teach for blind children."It is very touching. And i do like Dr Baker. He's so discreet and nice.It is so sad he never married,he should have married Kate,Harriet's niece. The vicar married,Mr Edward married twice and Dr baker remained single. It is bad.
Of all the townspeople from LHOTP, I liked Doc Baker and Nels Oleson the most. Kevin Hagen passed away in 2005. Richard Bull is now 87. Makes me sad... :(
I'm glad to see that even a minister gets angry & confused, and questions the Lord. It never seems to happen in real life, or they refuse to adMIT they get angry with God.
Aww. Reverend...we all love U & the whole community. How did we suffer with them, feel happy with them, get compassionate & goin thru the good and bad times... this is actually a sad episode thinkin of Ingalls leaving their picturesque lil house, that Charles worked so hard on, which in my eyes is the only place that's ever gonna be Ingall's real home. The whole community has grown dear to my heart like an extended family each single one of them. Such great folks! Thumbs up if U feel the same!
@Princess46721 Her blind coach/teacher that Mary met and married after meeting at the blind school on the t.v show. In real life, Mary was never married and lived with her family most of her life.
its so sad when mrs. simms leaves..such a sad scene..knowing that she left the show for good..and how much she cared about mary...also from what i heard(don't know where) the reason why they named this episode and said when mary and adam were leaving "i'll be waving as you drive away" was because melissa sue anderson and linwood boomer had a blind adviser on the set, to help them with their acting, and that is what she said to them when she was leaving. thats what i heard anyway.
@Kbuggins1 Yes a very lovely lady! Very patient, friendly, warmhearted! Best teacher in the whole series (apart from when Caroline taught the kids. She is a good teacher too
@fairytalelover1011 Well he did aswell but he at least told her before that he would and maybe in his heart he knew she would wave back (natural enough to wave upon leaving)
I wish the writers had taken Mary's blindness more seriously, instead of having a blind boyfriend conveniently turn up right after she goes blind. It sort of staled the whole blind storyline imo.
@fairytalelover1011 How could this be from Laura's diary if Mary never fell in love with her blind teacher and married him? Did other people here on youtube get that wrong? Now I'm not sure what to believe is the true story. Others have been saying Mary stayed single and childless. I believed it.
@Miracle490d I'm not too sure. I know it was based off the diary, but I'm not too sure what happend. I read online that this was from Laura's diary, but mabey not.
@manduh87 I love that line too. The next episode should be called "I wouldn't hate it. Not if we're together." Carolyn has to remind him too, cuz he still hates it. LOL But with a smile after he's reminded. LOL
Is it just me or does Caroline sounds as if she has a cold or something (talking through her nose) I noticed it before in the previous episode 'A most precious gift'
It's a so sad episode but mary is very brave and Adam will be a wonderful husband. In her life Mary is becoming blind, her sohn is dead..... but she always brave!!!!
When I first saw this episode, I replayed the part when Adam and Mary are talking to each other under the umbrella like 5 times, especially the part where he whispers, "I'll be waving as you drive away"
This was the latest episode I've so far seen and probably my favorite. I never that much liked Mary but going completely blind was too bad, and I was so happy she found someone like Adam. Who first seemed an asshole though but oh how sympathetic and sweet young man he turned out to be though blind too - I LOVE him and Mary as a pair. <3
I don't know if I answered your question or not so here it goes. The name of the epi is May We Make Them Proud. It is a 2 part LHOP epi and can be seen on my channel.
Yes, I agree that they are not far apart in age - no problem at all as far as I can see. But he is 18 or older. If this happened now, he could be arrested for corrupting the morals of a minor just for kissing her and spend about six months in jail. Yeah, I think it's stupid too. And of course he would be fired because he is her teacher.
Watching everything in this episode, I shall pray for all those who are blind or deaf. Remember the biography of Helen Keller who became both blind and deaf after an illness at thirteen months after birth. She was taught to communicate by Annie Sullivan.

Well, I think Hollywood is all about youthful actors & actresses personally. However, there are some great pro actors, that are older, that can out act all the youthful actors all together. Hollywood is so fickle and never kind to those over 25... At least this is what I've encountered over the years. I just wish Hollywood would acknowledge more 'aged' actors. Don't me wrong, there is some great young talent out there. I just feel that the older actors are under appreciated in T.V/movies.
thank u! i think actresses like melissa are so talented and deep so i guess hollywood is sooo wrong!! well thank u for putin the videos from lhotp it's awesome, can u tell me the name of the episode where mary lost her baby? (i guess it's the one just before "mary we make them proud)
This episode was sad but also very good. I loved the addition of Adam Kendall and the blind school storyline. I think it let us all see what life could Mary Ingalls have had. And Adam was a nice guy, i so wished there had been a Adam Kendall for Mary in real life. This episode also showed one important thing: that being blind is not and should nt be hopless dorwning in despair. Becoming blind is sad but drowning in self-pity is destructive and leads nowhere
