  • thats illegal!

  • You're awesome if you work in a place where the weather is so bad you need a guiding rope to get you across the street.

  • we got red necks there too :(

  • you're not supposed to travel in a condition 1.

    this definitely isn't a condition 1.

  • go to work... LIKE A BOSS

  • I remember that day, i miss you guys.. :(

  • I applied to several jobs with Raytheon out there, I hope I get it!

  • Try convincing them that global warming is a problem

  • All I know that this working in those areas must have a good salary because its not hard working there and far away from your familys or love ones

  • and I thought Canada was cold.....

  • Have you figured out which one of you is the thing? Or are you still trying to get Kurt Russell to lay off of the J&B Scotch?

  • just wear aerogel longjohns and you'll be fine

  • Santa disliked this video.

  • This reminds me of just how much I hate winter.

  • Looks like a regular winter day here in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

  • @vaquerar Yeah... My ass. I don't live all that far from Edmonton. That's a hell of a lie. Condition 1 weather usually means the windchill is under minus 100 degrees. Where I'm from the windchill record is minus 93... Edmonton's can't be much more. If any more. Edmonton's average winter temperature is in the teens. So... Nice try.

  • I'll just keep my ass in las Vegas I would shatter into a million pieces if I stood out there for 1 minute!

  • This is NUTS!!

I was expecting it to be bad, but holy shit!

  • May I ask where you get your orange parkas from? Is there any way to get them in the UK, any websites etc?

    Many thanks.

  • @PhillipSargeant

They are made by "Canada-Goose" in Canada. They are the standard issue parkas for the residents at McMurdo. There are a lot of counterfeits on the market. A real one will set you back about $800 U.S.D. but they are very warm, obviously.

  • So if you are not there for actual research and you are a janitor or repairman.. what are the requirement for those? I would imagine you would need a heck of a resume to even be a janitor in Antarctica right? About how long do most people stay stationed there and is there a waiting list? Do the janitors and other non scientists get rotated in and out of Antarctica or do they stay for a period of years?

  • @caprican28 there are different requirements for different jobs, but basically you just apply and hope you get picked :)

if you're there for summer its 4-6 months, for winter 6-8 months or so. and yep, everyone gets rotated, you can't stay more than 14 months at a time.

  • Is it me or is it like the snow mission in the beggining of modern warfare 2?

  • @Ishimaruz thats fucked i was thinking the same thing yo

  • You two are troopers.

You make normal people like us quiver in envy.

  • It must be hard to work in those weather conditions 1 question were do you do go shopping or buy food because there is nothing but snow and wind in antartica thank forsharing this video

  • @pietrovaldes when the weather is that bad, most people don't work - and we don't get weather like that very often, so we're usually working almost every day!

your meals are provided to you there by a cafeteria-style kitchen. most of the food comes in once a year on a ship, and in the summer fresh fruit and veggies are flown in.

  • @pietrovaldes "were do you do go shopping or buy food because there is nothing but snow and wind in antartica..."

You just go to the grocery spore!

    (er--sorry.)

  • @pietrovaldes they grow it lol jk

  • So is it possible to live there without being a scientist? because if so i'd love to? lemme know plz = D

  • @klyze09 it is, absolutely! i'll message you a few sites to check out.

  • @whatthahump could you send me those sites too please ?

  • @whatthahump

    Hello!

Can you message me those sites too?

    thanx!

  • @whatthahump Please message me.

Cam you be like a normal person and go to Antarctica and honesly this is more like condition 2.

  • @whatthahump hey can you message me some sites too thanks :)

  • @whatthahump are there any military personnel living in Antarctica?

  • @MrIsraelcenaiko americans everywhere...

  • @klyze09 why in bloody hell would you wanna live in somewhere like this... ??? something wrong ?????

  • how the f did anything get built in Antarctica if you have to deal with weather like that on a consistent/semi-consistent basis?

  • @teknotoast its not consistently like this - we had a bad stretch last winter and had a few storms back to back, but when i was there in 2006 we had only one condition 1 storm, and it lasted for maybe an hour or so.

there are still plenty of awesome days to be doing stuff outside!

  • @teknotoast Because believe it or not dude there are times when the weather in Antarctica is fine :)

  • @freelynz not even fine, amazingly beautiful! :)

  • I was expecting a scene out of an Alien movie to play out any minute...

  • Amazing

  • Reminds me of 'The Thing'...

  • What camera was this shot with? I am surprised the battery didn't die under the cold.

  • @wowcolors but this one is a konica minolta dimage a200 - and it never failed me walking to work in the crappy weather! its a workhorse!!!

  • Honestly, this is terrifying. I've lived in places that are cold and dark. You lose that rope you could freeze to death long before anyone can find you. Which would probably be sometime during the summer...

  • Wow, never expected to see telephone poles and overhead wires in Antarctica.

  • @keinjava there are actually so many wires around town that its hard to get a good, clear photo of things without wires, crazy!

  • don't dig up any UFOs in the ice or take the "dead" aliens back to camp. You don't want to end up like the Norwegians.

  • I want to go there really badly.

  • Another day at the office..

  • How are the buildings heated?

  • with stuff that provides electricity...or fire.

  • lol.. no you would not be able to handle Antarctica

  • I sio wanna go there

  • I thought you were not supposed to go anywhere in condition 1..Looks more like condition 3 to me summertime at mcmudhole

  • @wrenchbird we had 2 storms last winter that were con1 for quite a bit - and as i worked in the galley i was considered 'station critical' so i was lucky enough to have to go to work :)

  • Wow the camera is........good. Normally cameras will fail to work in this temperature.....o.o

  • @loch3124 i was actually surprised that the camera did as well as it did. i have a dslr that i wouldn't take out in that weather - but this is a konica minolta dimage a200 - and it never failed me walking to work in the crappy weather!

  • what kind of jobs can someone get over there?

  • they have on one side all the researchers who work in their labs studying the samples, the climate changes and so on. on the other side there are the carpenters, the janitors, all the people needed to keep a polar station working in those extreme conditions. oh and also photographers, documentaries directors..

  • so carpenters rebuild station segments and chisel ice paths for frozen equiptment ?

  • @starpier ill try and look in to that

  • nothing,,but just wipe ot snow

  • -100F? Omfg... thats cold. .____.

  • I will keep my mouth shut the next time I have to go out in a storm. I feel the chills just watchg this. Talk about bravery!!!!

  • The camera guy is just as brave.

  • my boyfriend richard use to work in antarctica a few years back.he showed me on internet where he worked.i think its incredible the conditions you guys work in.being brave is'nt the word for you's. good on you guys.

  • wow thats crazy do you guys ever get scared of getting blown away in the storms? You guys are really brave.

  • winter 04 and 05 we had way worst we couldnt go to work or put up ropes

  • that's what they were saying today ~ this was the worst i've seen. 06 we had one con1 and it didn't even last all day.

  • Great footage......must be unreal down there

  • thanks! it is nuts. we're getting another storm tomorrow too ~ shaping up to be quite a winter!
