What the Melbourne transport system REALLY needs is a separate division of the police force for the transport system to replace the authorised officers and have them patrol all of the stations and trains.

Yes and no... what happens If the conductor has a passangers who refuses to get the ticket from the conductor and tells him to go get fucked, then smacks the conductor in the face. what happens then? the train would be stopped then police called which would cause delays for all passengers, where T.I's can arrest him and remove him from the train causing minimal delays.
whats stopping them from plowing a ticket inspector in the face? nothing. it would be the same with a conductor. a conductor could simply have a radio in which he could call in to the next station for help to remove the person off the train and use the CCTV footage for the police.

Melbourne train inspectors are thugs. Too aggressive even to innocent people who have tickets. Their job is too stressful and they take it out on passenger even if they have a ticket. They aren't professional nor friendly at all.

Some dumb fuck high court judge back in the 90's decided it was a good idea to bring the Transport Act in.

@icersau. Actually, they do. Under the Transport Act, Authorised Officers have the power to arrest anyone who breaches the transport Act and it's regulations. Under the CRIMES act (Vic) ANYBODY has the power to arrest somebody who breaches an Act (But not a regulation). Only Police and Authorised Officers have the powers under the Transport Act to arrest someone for breaching the Transport Regulations.

If the Public Transport System had have remained entirely in government hands, then Authorised Officers would be employed directly by the government, and more than likely made unsworn officers (or a branch of the police force).

Yes and no... what happens If the conductor has a passangers who refuses to get the ticket from the conductor and tells him to go get fucked, then smacks the conductor in the face. what happens then? the train would be stopped then police called which would cause delays for all passengers, where T.I's can arrest him and remove him from the train causing minimal delays.

whats stopping them from plowing a ticket inspector in the face? nothing. it would be the same with a conductor. a conductor could simply have a radio in which he could call in to the next station for help to remove the person off the train and use the CCTV footage for the police.

They can arrest someone if a crime has been committed under the transport act. connex authorized officers cannot simply arrest innocent people. IF this person has not committed a crime under the public transport act, what the ticket inspectors have done is legally defined as assault.
