I'm a fan of SRL and I watched every fight he fought in the 80s. I watched no more than 5 of Marv Marvin's fights. I honestly feel that at their prime, Marvin would have hammered SRL into submission.
Sugar Ray Leonard was indeed one of the P4P all-time greats. Unbelievable boxing skills--one of the the 3 fastest boxers of all-time (him, Ali, Robinson). Underrated puncher and one of the greatest finishers I've ever seen. Once SRL hurt you, it was over. Mayweather Jr. would have gotten a boxing lesson. I only wish he never came back and took that Camacho fight and also wish he would have fought Hagler 5 years earlier. SR would have taken Camacho the loud mouth to school in their primes.
Hagler, herns or leonard would beat floyd if they would be on their prime, floyd is great but there's no1 in his level of skills in hi weight, I'm not saying his too great, its just that there's not a great level of skills in his division, prove is that pac had defeated those guys easier than in light weights
@TheNigerianScammer Of course,he was a natural welter who was able to ko junior middles, middles and a few light heavys.mayweather is already at his heaviest limit at welter.he would be crushed against junior middles and middleweights.
@TheNigerianScammer Stupid comment again! Floyd same ko percentage and wins same ammounts of titles in weight devisions! and more wins with 0 losses. think its a tad bid stupid that u would say he would ko floyd when sugar finnished his great career 36 w 26 ko 3 losses 1 draw and I did say great career! while floyds gread career is 42 w 26 ko 0 losses 0 draws and his legacy isnt finnished . @wFVIPU9GBSEIPBPWbipe SUGAR RAY HIMSELF said he stole the Hagler fight....it's on an interview....that was his plan from the very beginning..to steal the fight with late flurries..go watch that interview....it's on youtube
Mayweather didn't belong in the ring with Leonard. Mayweather's opponents? De la Hoya, washed up, Gatti, washed up, Mosely, washed up, Marquez, a fat little joke, Hatton, just little. TERRIFIED OF PACMAN.
Nothing this guy does leads to him beating mayweather; he knocked out stationary targets nobody in this guys generation had the ability to move and box like mayweather. Combos what combos im pretty mayweather would have neutralized that also a good jab kills a combo. Hagler hearns srl none of them can beat pbf hearn would probally have the best chance with the reach and height
Perfect music for boxing man, really well done............never the same girl twice not the same girl you fucked last night..............so like what the fuck
leonard should have fought hagler when he was at the top of his game....leonard knew that hagler slowed down durign his fight with mugabi that's why he he decided to fight him
@67Sman Hagler was always better than Leonard. This is stupid. You can't compare a boxer to a fighter. Hagler was more of a fighter, whereas Leonard was more of a boxer. Leonard wore you down with speed, combinations, sometimes outpointed with pitter patter if thats what he had to do, footwork, etc. Hagler wore you down with constant pressure, coming forward, a diamond chin :) and fists like sledgehammers. Each were great in their own respect.
@k4n31985 without gloves on, Leonard's hands would be so fast you probably cant even comprehend how quick they would be, you wouldn't even see them connect, the guy would just drop, so I would say Leonard was a better boxer and fighter than Hagler, Hagler was just a great fighter with a great pace, but he was no sugar ray :P
and Robinson would have put both of them to shame (worlds number one fighter EVER, and number 2 being Marciano)
@67Sman BULLSHIT. Apart from Hagler being old and battleworn when they finally fought, Leonard got: 12 Ounce gloves (yep, TWELVE, and Merchant said, "Ray's ability to take Hagler's punches is astonishing".), a 22 x 22 ring, 12 rounds instead of 15, etc. Only thing that was missing to make it even more worse for Hagler would have been a catchweight. Leonard was the greater boxer, but fighter NO.
@k4n31985 omg man, you gotta change that, he is superb, you cant really call yourself a boxing fan unless you have seen some of Sugar Ray Robinson's great fights.
@67Sman well.. people always saying Ali is sooo great etc, yet I bet most of them never seen his fights.. I've seen some and sure he was good but meh.. I might watch some Robinson fights (except the LaMotta fights, seen) when I'm done with exams.
@k4n31985 I agree, Ali is way to overrated by everyone who pretends they know a lot about boxing, if they had seen him fight, ya he is really good and is a fantastic showman that has good footwork, but he was never in any case the best ever.
I do hope you watch some Robinson fights dog, I think you'll like him better than Leonard, he did a lot more actual fighting and less backing up than Leonard, plus he has some devastating power and speed with great technique, which makes it fun to watch him.
@k4n31985 besides, you talk about Sugar Ray beating and old battle worn Hagler, Leonard was farther out of his prime, and came out of like a 6 year retirement to fight him, the odds were horribly against Leonard even with the little tidbits that Sugar Ray got to choose, he hit Hagler with combinations that would have dropped him if Sugar Ray was a few years younger and still had his awesome knockout power when they fought.
one credit to Hagler would be his chin though, it was tough as nails
@67Sman Leonard never dominated a division the way Marvin did. Maybe he'd rank higher P4P but when it comes at ATG's at different weights he doesn't really stand out, at middleweight or welterweight. That being said I still think Marvin had more in his arsenal; boxing, slugging, body punching, head hunting, a steel jaw, ruthlessness.
@67Sman Yes but Marvin beat Hearns and Duran a lot easier than Ray did. And also take into account that Ray was fresh after a 6yr lat off, whereas Hagler had been fighting (and deteriorating). Remember Ray made Hagelr agree to a 30ft ring and 12oz gloves and a 12 round limit - all to give him the edge. Prime vs Prime 15 rounds, regular ring and gloves at middleweight I see Hagler stopping him inside the distance. Just my opinion.
@MrBumboclart you have no idea how well you just argued everything that I said against your own opinion haha
first off, you don't become a better fighter from sitting at home watching TV while you are retired like Leonard....you do however become a better fighter from training and having fights and sparring and staying active regularly like Hagler did before there fight.
its true that Leonard got some advantages during the fight, but he also fought Hagler at his weight class, not Leonard's.
@MrBumboclart ray leonard was not fresh after the layoff, being the all time great legend that he is he was still able to dig deep but clearly deteriated some since his retirement, he had many problems outside the ring during that time,he should get full credit for his performance against hagler.
@beserkerant I think Sugar would've did the same thing prime or not. he would've danced around plus if leonard was in his prime it would end in ko with sugar winning. Sugar wasnt as strong as he used to in Hagler fight. Sugar hit him with hard flurries and good combo's But marvin did have power and the chin. But leonard had the headmovent speed and power (not as much as haglers) and sugar used his brain more. Sorry for fact thats just how I argue.. LoL
@beserkerant lol well u never know with these dream matches .... n on his prime leonard couldnt knock out duran ... but it sure is fun arguing with some1 who knows his boxing well =)
@beserkerant everyone talks about primes...they were both out of there prime when they fought, Hagler lost....end of story
and Leonard was farther out of his prime than Hagler was, Leonard was retired, Hagler was still fighting, thus he was in better shape for the fight, but he still lost.....
@coolmartcola : Yeah pretty much. That all being said, if Hagler had just done what he was supposed to do he would have beaten Leonard. Hagler gave Leonard the first 4 rounds by fighting orthodox instead of southpaw and that basically lost the fight for him. He he of just fought southpaw from the beginning he would have controlled the fight, Leonard would not have gotten out of the blocks the way he did, and Hagler would have easily cruised to a victory on points.
@67Sman destroyed lol...hagler has the best chin of all time...leonard won that fight cuz he stole rounds with his late flurries...and actually he gassed out in the championship rounds...
@coolmartcola you keep on making excuses for hagler when in reality leonard beat him with 1 fight in 5 years. leonard was a welterweight hagler a middle a full 13 lbs heavier and naturally bigger.. sugar ray jumped up to fight him not the other way round so all credit to him. hagler never accpted the challenge of michael spinks which maeks leonard legacy far bigger ..... fact
I love speculating All Time Greats vs Current P4P list, but it is just that... Speculation.. Yes Leonard would defeat every top 10 lightweight to middle weight we have to offer in this generation of boxing. His defensive savy, speed and killer insticts trump Pacman, Mayweather and the down the list... One ot the great athletes who got me into the fight game during the '80s.
good post could have done without the music. sugar man was one of the best, leonard that is but ray robinson was in a class of his own one could argue was the best pound for pound ever hagler could have had the same statis until that last bout if you want to call it that.
Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali were the tow greast boxers of all time. But both men didn't know when to quit. That just goes to show, you have to know when you time is up in the ring.
i wish MP and Sugar Ray coulda mixed it up in their primes! Shit i guess i'ld have to settle with video games..That would be my dream match right there.
amazing when you look at that how it reminds of all that leonard was....he could dance and jab and move and showboat from distance....he could box in close....he had a solid chin....and he could fight, ie, couple of times in that vid he hit his opponent with 3/4/5 continuous looping rights while they were on the way out....
tommy hearns was an amazing welter..savage height / reach..i can only imagine what it felt like to be rays size and standing in front of him, and yet he did it.....tremendous
I didn't realise Sugar was that good..I only saw clips of the Hearns and Hagler bouts..he was special..I'll have to view a few more of his fights

The only combinations that rival Leonard's are Ali's, Tyson's, and Robinson's

amazing when you look at that how it reminds of all that leonard was....he could dance and jab and move and showboat from distance....he could box in close....he had a solid chin....and he could fight, ie, couple of times in that vid he hit his opponent with 3/4/5 continuous looping rights while they were on the way out....
tommy hearns was an amazing welter..savage height / reach..i can only imagine what it felt like to be rays size and standing in front of him, and yet he did it.....tremendous
