Learning piano from a private instructor right now, this helps alot when I'm not in his class and when I wanna look ahead at what's coming up, thanks alot Andrew, you're the best.
wait so pieces do degrade after you have been playing them for a long time at tempo? and then you have to work them slow again? thats so exhausting, ive been working on moonlight sonata for several months now and i keep having to go back and do slow over and over, it feels like im never gonna get it clean and up to speed. if you have any suggestions, Andrew, I would be happy to hear them. and thank you of course
I have been seeing progress so I think it is. But what do you think? I'm currently at 240bpm with one piece. Btw, I do it in sync with the clicks, is that ok as well? Please reply!
I play guitar but I was thinking the metronome applies for all instruments.
I'm a intermediate and I been playing for a little more than a year. What I have been doing is I play a piece at a certain speed, then practice at that speed 10 minutes a day for like 2 or 3 days, then increase the tempo by 10bpm. I do this with 8 other excersises I learned from a DVD called speed kills. When I'm done with one exercise, I go to the next one and so on. Is this ok? I have been seeing progress so I think
Hi Lypur, I really liked your anologies to using the metronome, "it's like riding a horse," "it's sort of like driving on cruise control," etc. It was really a pleasure to hear your experience of it." I'm a novice at the piano and just recently started using the metronome and I find that when I'm in sync with it, it becomes very meditative and relaxing too, so much that I can I lose track of time. The perception of the continuity of time seems to become very focused and clear. It's wonderful!
I have my volume crank up but I still can't really hear you. Barely make out what you say. you should really increase your outbound volume or sit near the camera.
How do you line up the weight? In other words, does it matter if the top of the weight is lined up with the number. Or the middle of the weight is over the number?
Yamaha Clavinovas have a metronome included but if you record piano using the aux out the tick tock sound from the metronome is recorded also :( ...not good
Wow! I have owned and used a metronome for many years and never really knew very much about it until now. Thank you so much for explaining what a metronome is all about. I didn't even know that there is a digital version now on the market. Mine is like the original one you show in your demo. My piano teacher wants me to use my metronome for a Clementi piece I am playing. This lesson will really help me. Thanks again Andrew!
Hi Andrew, i am from Greece and metronome is a greek word (metronomos). Actually two words together metro is the greek word for meter but in music is the space between two bars and nomos is the greek word for law. Anyway thanks, you helped me a lot. Great job.
Andrew u r so generous, thanks so much for these lessons! I started learning a few months ago thanks to your lessons and I even posted a video of me playing Bella's lullaby :)
You could have made this video about 5 minutes long. You just keep talking and talking, getting off onto random tangents about your own life. Nobody watching this video wants to know about that, just about "How to use a metronome"
I know six eight time I can tell what songs use it and stuff but I can't play it with a metronome is it acceptable for to notes per click or since it's six eight should it be triplets for every click or just one note ? Someone help me lol
I can hardly hear your voice when you're sitting by the Piano on most of your videos. But, when you sit closed by the keyboard then I can hear you well. I like your lessons though and your comedy.
Thank you for this lesson. I started using one a few days ago and I like how it keeps me concentrated almost 100% of the time! My teacher said I'm one of the few people who actually like working with that thing. Most of her students feel like running away whenever she turns on the metronome :D

How would you use the digital metronome with something that wasn't a standard time signature? I'm thinking of Chopin's Noturne in Eb. Its signature is12/8.
@dlegendjac Also now you can download one on dsiware too...I don't know if it is exactly the same as the iphone but you can for like 2 dollars (200 pts)
I'm using a built-in keyboard metronome and I find it annoying, especially as I usualy use headphones. Well, I need advice, do you think I should buy a metronome?
Now I see ur jealous. U know homophobes like you, usually were fucked in the ass by their dad while sleeping. So now you are pretending to be such a man. Otherwise why you are watching a fucking piano video?.
When I get into 8ths in the pieces im learning I have to count in my head (1 and 2 and..) in order to play does anyone know if i should be counting ive been doing this a few weeks that little blip is starting to make me crazy *twitch*
I have a metronome myself, just like yours. My teacher keeps at me to count , which I believe I am Brain dead, as I just don't get it. With your Help this is what I needed. Even your cute little stories, are indelible illustrations. I want to thank you for helping me. I really like all your Teachings, as my teacher can't give 30 minutes of lessons and cover everything, but you do. Do you have any on fingering for a woman that has small hands I can only reach an Octave, Keep teaching this.
This was awesome. 5 stars. I can't play piano but I've been playing guitar off and on since high School. Anyway, I've never had a metronome. I've always wanted one and I've always know i needed one but never knew how to use it. Rhythm and theory have always baffled me. Now I've gotten better over the years but no where where I should be. This was a big help. Cruise control. And your right, playing is relaxing. Maybe it's why I've never given it up. I'm running out of letters. I subscribed. Bye.
thanks so much. you have no idea how much your videos helping me. combination of my own teacher and your video makes the lessons much easier for me. M.
Hey dude you know what? Franz Liszt taught for free too! and also did you know that for fun, he would write music for an orchestra, thats never been heard, and turn it upside down and sight read it, and make comments on what he liked and didnt! Thats crazy
