  • Glad you knew John Schlee. Do you know of the teachings of his student Tom Bertrand? Any thoughts? I sure want to know about Hogan's Hand Twist from the top of the swing. You sure can see angle changes of the clubface at the first movement down.

  • @OnlineBizClubGuy

I don't know Tom Bertrand but I know of him. I fully explain what Hogan was doing in both my book and my DVD. I have John's vhs and book and he did not reveal anything. He made these while Mr. Hogan was still alive. He promised Mr. Hogan he wouldn't say anything until after his death.

  • The change in Hogan's wrist angle was caused by the initation of his left side which caused the muscles to stretch and pull on his wrist angle, which causes a change in it's position. Remember Hogan was naturally left handed, and had so had the strength to make this method work. You also need to practise as hard as Hogan.

  • That was him opening the clubface. He could manipulate the face to allow for more fade if he wanted it. I know what Schlee taught me and it works. I verified it with Bruce Crampton who played with Hogan twice weekly. Hogan never told him anything of substance but Bruce's keen observation led him to agree. I fully explain it in my DVD and book.

  • Hogan weaken his left hand grip. His first move from the top was a counter-clockwise twist of the wrist as hard and as fast as he could all the way through the ball. The worst he could do was hit it dead straight.

  • I take a very thin divot if any. I learned Hogan's secret from John Schlee about 20 years ago. I was also a PGA Tour player manager for Bruce Crampton for years. Bruce used to play twice weekly with Hogan so I have been lucky to get good info. Before we shot this DVD I had been in a nursing home dying from cancer and a massive stroke, yet I was able to adapt what I know is important to my residual paralysis and pain.

  • Mike,

I have your book. One question...

Hogans pre-wreck swing had his elbow more in front of his hip (pitch elbow) at impact. He had to roll the hands to square up the face.

Some say he controlled his hook by changing this elbow position, having his rt elbow at, or just behind his rt hip, and squared the club up this way which was more repeatable.

    your thoughts on that?

  • Hogan squared the club face with his body. When he needed to pour on a little extra he resorted to what he described in his 1955 Life Magazine article a copy of which I own. The impact position is the most important aspect. Having a solid foundation to the ground is very important for stability when applying the powerful body turn. Having the hands in close to the body permits maximizing conservation of angular momentum just like an ice skater spins. I explain it all in my DVD.

  • Are you doing better?

  • Are you purposely not taking a divot? I like how old school your swing is.
