This is a bizarre story. Why would she have lied for? It has to be about a deep regret to not have studied (when she clearly has the brain for it, just by making this story up). But I think that having the talent that she had, nobody will ever take that away from her. She should be in a Hall Of Fame. If she lied I forgive her because it's not the end of the world. Maybe an University should give her an Honoris Causa for wanting a diploma so much. She'd totally deserve one in the music field.

I'm sorry to say her story has been thoroughly investigated and found to be a complete and utter fabrication. She has also admitted that she does not have a PhD. Both Cornell University and Marymount have provided statements denying that she graduated from any of their programs. Read up on it. The original story has been pulled off the net and the author can't be reached.

She must be embarrassed.Maybe she wasn't at the level of an artist she used to be at, so she may have wanted to find some sort of comfort to help ease her pain,maybe just guessing. yup,during her speach at the recent pop montreal festival she said the phd sham came about after at one of her speaking engagements where a young lady approached her and said she was so moved by roxanne's story that she wanted to call her doctor. roxanne took that idea and ran with it. that's how the lie was born. bad idea tho. it would've been best if she never came up with the record contract tale and always said "dr" in quotation marks,making it clear that she was not an actual doctor.

I just found out about this myself and I'm disgusted. Since the 1990's she's been lying in interviews with the Source and XXL, saying she had a PhD & was working as a psychologist.

To hear a sister was taking care of her biz and doing well for herself after her rap career ended impressed me and must've inspired many a young sister to follow in her footsteps.

This is a fib. Warner denies ever directly having a contract with Shante. It admits that she was signed to a subsidary of Warner, but that that contract contains no such education for life clause.
