Alright, everyone comparing this to Ferrari needs to shut the fuck up. They are both fantastic, and people calling Ferrari's "show-offs" are dipshits, considering that Ferrari is only as popular as it is, because it makes excellent cars. The Porsche is great too, also, don't say that Ferrari's don't make manuals anymore, because that is the only type of car they make, except with flappy paddle gear-boxes.
I think the reason why we will probably never see Chris on Top Gear is because Top Gear is a show and this guy is a professional. We all love how biased Jeremy is cause its the part of the show whereas this guy is in a different league, he approaches this subject as a true professional. HUGE RESPECTS TO CHRIS HARRIS!
i have a z06 at present but this is next on my list . what a sports car should be. listen to this thing it sounds absolutely amazing. with no damn f1 paddles a proper manual transmisson and rear wheel drive. a drivers car

@nightmare1983 Of course Cayenne is not a sports car. But it is a real functioning SUV that can stand with Land Rovers on off-roads, but at the same time can go fast in tracks just like most sports cars while outrunning X5s, X6 Ms and Q7s.
In motorsport, Ferrari performs well in F1 while Porsche performs really well in LeMans. But those Ferrari owners who can't drive with proper manual are true show-off fanboys.

This simply says that Porsche offers great mechanical dynamics but Ferrari driving dynamics really depends on electronic.

I've read several racing driver's views but most recent is Randy Pobst on the 458: "I had all stability controls turned off, and this the kind of car where you can live without 'em". And if you think a GT2 RS is easier to drive than a GTO, that's really close to call.

Hey, I hope no one thinks I'm an idiot for asking/not knowing this, but does anyone know what that metallic whine-type noise is that's coming from the engine of this fantastic GT3 Cup car? I've noticed that quite a lot of GT3-class race cars' engines make this noise. I know the car is naturally aspirated, so it's not a supercharger making the noise, and aside from that, the noise actually rises in pitch along with the speed of the car rather than with the engine RPMs like a supercharger would.
@danthemanpatrick It's the best sound and the worst if you drive for long periods of time. Those cup car transmissions as you will see is just a push up for down shift and push down for upshift, no hydrolic foot operated clutch. So to eliminate the clutch, the syncros have to be made of extremely durable materials and mainly set up differently so that they can mash together without the use of a hydrolic clutch. That's just the sound it makes. Sick right?
@danthemanpatrick The whine is the sound of straight cut gear teeth engaging with each other. Why they make them straight cut instead of helical like road car is for durability and less power loss through transmission. Your car's gearbox has a pair of straight cut gear in it, the reverse gear. The faster you back up your car, the louder the whine.
Chris Harris is the eventual successor to Tiff Needell, not Jeremy baffoon Clarkson. Top Gear crew is full of jokesters. Clarkson is a tit, Hammond is a racer wannabe and May is just a bore.
@Grim214 it is comfy and great to drive. My cousin has a 2006 model and let me drive it. I like it more than his Ferrari 360 CS and Carrera GT...but not his Enzo. I would definitely get the 2010 GT3 RS if I could afford one.....

The article in the mag explains the use of two cars. From memory one was visually an rs (exterior, red roll cage etc, for press photos) with gt3 mechanicals, and the other had the gt3 looks but with the gt3 rs mechanicals. Probs due to the fact the car was pre production at the time.

Actually it was not fake. The cloth door pulls simply were not ready. I know it, because I developed them for the Boxster Spyder. After we realised that the Boxster Spyder door panel is about 1.2 kg lighter each we decided to use them for the GT3 RS too. If you have a very close look you can see the arm rest which is specific for GT3 RS and Boxster Spyder, too.
The RS from the video simply was a test mule that was stickered to make photo car of it.
Clarkson doesn't know about what performance cars are all about and never will. Even after years of driving the best cars in the world my granny could beat him round a track.

@SuperApparition Top Gear in the UK isn't a serious car show though. It's an entertainment show, with a car theme. Even Clarkson admits it's just "3 blokes cocking about". The problem is, it took the name of a serious (but defunct) car show when it started in 2002, and to this day, a small but vocal number of people are still slating it for its irreverance and lack of serious factual information. Like it's going to change after 8 years as the Beeb's most successful programme. :-)

gtr is probably the most value for money car there is at the moment. that being a car that is a performance car. absolutely astounding that nissan put such a small price tag on it when you see the lexus LFA costs something like 6 times as much and is probably no better than the GTR. its astounding
the gtr FIA gt1 is also pretty quick. its about 540-590hp and would probably also beat the porsche. but in the actual race it always comes down to the driver. any car can win
not that cup car at the end no. but thats a stock gtr which is hardly fair which has back seats radio sound proofing etc. r35 comes in a race version aswell which i think would probably beat it. the R35 GT-R GT500 JTC racer is insanely quick. it would kill that porsche easily
Um, obviously it would beat it.. The GT3 Cup runs in the GT3 class, the GT-R, the GT1 class. The GT500 class GT-R is also in a MUCH higher class than the GT3 Cup car. The GT-R is not eligible in the GT3 class because it has too much power standard. Do your research before you post. People who post comments like this make me angry.

And even the old 996 gt3 with 385hp was as quick as the 360cs so the new one with 70hp more and a better balance and grip would kill it on a track!

@danthemanpatrick It's the best sound and the worst if you drive for long periods of time. Those cup car transmissions as you will see is just a push up for down shift and push down for upshift, no hydrolic foot operated clutch. So to eliminate the clutch, the syncros have to be made of extremely durable materials and mainly set up differently so that they can mash together without the use of a hydrolic clutch. That's just the sound it makes. Sick right?

@danthemanpatrick The whine is the sound of straight cut gear teeth engaging with each other. Why they make them straight cut instead of helical like road car is for durability and less power loss through transmission. Your car's gearbox has a pair of straight cut gear in it, the reverse gear. The faster you back up your car, the louder the whine.

The article in the mag explains the use of two cars. From memory one was visually an rs (exterior, red roll cage etc, for press photos) with gt3 mechanicals, and the other had the gt3 looks but with the gt3 rs mechanicals. Probs due to the fact the car was pre production at the time.

Actually it was not fake. The cloth door pulls simply were not ready. I know it, because I developed them for the Boxster Spyder. After we realised that the Boxster Spyder door panel is about 1.2 kg lighter each we decided to use them for the GT3 RS too. If you have a very close look you can see the arm rest which is specific for GT3 RS and Boxster Spyder, too.
The RS from the video simply was a test mule that was stickered to make photo car of it.

No, no PDK for the GT3 RS as it is a purists car. PDK is not available on any GT models. However, the new GT2 will have PDK I beleive.

@SuperApparition Top Gear in the UK isn't a serious car show though. It's an entertainment show, with a car theme. Even Clarkson admits it's just "3 blokes cocking about". The problem is, it took the name of a serious (but defunct) car show when it started in 2002, and to this day, a small but vocal number of people are still slating it for its irreverance and lack of serious factual information. Like it's going to change after 8 years as the Beeb's most successful programme. :-)

@achp400 Chris Harris is an excelente reviewer, his writing is without any doubt informative and exciting at the same time , but he´s a serious car journalist, excelent in the Evo or Driver´s Republic context, but not as a TG presenter. Top Gear is cool because it´s three guys clowning around in clouds of smoke and nonsense humour, but it think Chris Harris is more of a Tiff Needel "replacement"

gtr is probably the most value for money car there is at the moment. that being a car that is a performance car. absolutely astounding that nissan put such a small price tag on it when you see the lexus LFA costs something like 6 times as much and is probably no better than the GTR. its astounding

the gtr FIA gt1 is also pretty quick. its about 540-590hp and would probably also beat the porsche. but in the actual race it always comes down to the driver. any car can win

not that cup car at the end no. but thats a stock gtr which is hardly fair which has back seats radio sound proofing etc. r35 comes in a race version aswell which i think would probably beat it. the R35 GT-R GT500 JTC racer is insanely quick. it would kill that porsche easily

Um, obviously it would beat it.. The GT3 Cup runs in the GT3 class, the GT-R, the GT1 class. The GT500 class GT-R is also in a MUCH higher class than the GT3 Cup car. The GT-R is not eligible in the GT3 class because it has too much power standard. Do your research before you post. People who post comments like this make me angry.
