The show lacks cohesion a whole documentary picture. It is just a separate stories about single projects that doesn't comprise united whole message. No history no foresight into future development. I deeply appreciate sustainable design efforts, but the show itself is quite plain without any excitement. I'd like to see PBS as american BBC of ABC, as the source of objective information and education, inspiring professionals and youth.
I find the introduction to this very insulting, while I agree with principle it is completely untrue. While in the 20th century buildings were designed without respect to nature, this was because the damage that was being done wasn't recognised. However now in the 21st century, no building can actually be built without it being 'green'
Large cities are not environmentally conscientious or in harmony. To obtain the food to feed these cities without oil is simply impossible. None of this is sustainable.
If this is suppose to make us feel like we are close to becoming independent from oil based economy, it is a lie. Honestly how much space for plants will be needed to sustain the population? What is the footprint of the food being shipped to the city?
Sustainable is being completely independent of oil at a minimum.

The city is a paradox. On the one hand living in condense close quarters with high rise buildings and apartments is more economical and ecological than living in a wide spread suburban sprawl of a city. However on the other hand, it is much easier to over exploit the surrounding environment living in a city as cities tend to lead to more anthropocentric, environmentally detached and consumer driven behaviour.
Brilliant! As a designer myself, I can tell you, designing, giving the highest regard to nature and immitating it the best way possible is the future of good and lasting design
@john5246 I read an interview with him where he said he narrated it with a can of Pepsi shoved up his ass. He reckoned having to sit perfectly still and upright added an authoritarian rigidity to his voice.

Great Show, it just goes to show you how primitive we are. We need to develop things for the future with intelligent design TODAY.
