@SilasR7 I'd strongly recommend starting with a song that doesn't use Barr chords until you're more comfortable playing, it'll make your life a lot easier if you know the basic chord shapes. I tried starting with barr chords, and the frustration put a huge dent in my progress.

The way Cash palyed the strumming on this song was he strummed on the neck of his guitar with a regular C-chord and started the open sound with a up-stroke and one down stroke

I get this video and the strumming. I am just starting on guitar and is this standard tuning or half step down. Just sounds goofy when I play. Yet I am playing on a 40 year old classical guitar with no truss rod and the string are half a inch off the damn fret board. So learning on my old damn thing is kinda tricky.

@rthrbcurling When you do that you don't push on the strings....you just let your hand rest on the strings so you get that "clucking" sound and then push on the strings to break the silence!
