  • I'll be honest with you folks that Linux can run almost any Windows game (well lag a bit in some game).

It's not because of Linux, stop crying about it and check you installations and hardware.

If WINE isn't your satisfied emulator, try PlayOnLinux or CrossOver.

  • dude im running on an intel graphics chipset.

    TF2 = EXTREME lag hole.

    HL2 = fine.

    HL2 EP2 = a bit laggy. CSS = Fine.

    Portal = FUCKING LAGGY.

    Portal 2 = BSOD

    L4D2 = BSOD.

  • @rockoman100 I can run minecraft without a graphics card on Linux ;D

OHHH YAHHHH! Seriously though I can.

  • @gamealogic lol i can only run minecraft on Fast settings, high FPS setting, and tiny-normal render distance. On intel. Fuck intel.

  • @rockoman100 I even have compiz with no graphics card no lag at all. I find this odd.

  • @rockoman100 your on a intel graphics chip thats your problem -.-

  • @DrRuelel That was kinda what i was trying to say....

  • @rockoman100 Nope TF2 and Portal run very smooth with WINE on ArchLinux and Debian, no problem at all.

I believe you should upgrade your hardware systems.

  • @binbashLinuxAhole What? I never said anything about win or archlinux. I was only telling you my systems experience.

  • @rockoman100 So you aren't using Linux then? Windows?

  • @binbashLinuxAhole Yes. But no matter what OS i use, it wouldnt change my experience. Its my shitty graphics chipset.

  • @rockoman100 like I said, upgrade you hardware.

  • @binbashLinuxAhole i plan on it.

  • Sweet. This was like the only thing holdin me back from going 100 percent Linux

  • Lol, no phong shading at all.

  • 4:05 Is that... VenomFang? As in the notorious VenomFangX? *shudder*

  • So i Have the Normal TF2 not orange version, how do i install that? dont know the commands to it

  • how much RAM do you have?

  • can linux use Directx 10

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech No, only Microsoft have DirectX.

They will never ever release the source code for DirectX, so it won't be possible to run games in DirectX mode.

You have to run them in OpenGL (Open Graphics Library), which is open source, and will continue to be so.

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech Linux, BSD and Mac OS, and console use OpenGL while only Windows uses DirectX.

  • @binbashLinuxAhole Yea, I figured that out considering this was posted a year ago xD

  • nerd

  • Shame hardly anyone plays hydro now ...

  • im attempting this on puppy linux.... but the game runs like ball sax... any tips ?

  • ur mum...

and i had it running in ubuntu also..runs like shit...installed xp...game is playable with a Graphix cfg...looks like sheet but playable...but crashes after a few mins max...meh pc shit though..asus eeepc 900a...mini laptop looool but ye if u got a good pc...linux ftw...fuk winblowz...and if u dunno whow to do this..install ubuntu..install wine...install steam...install the game...play...may need a few more tweaks depending on ur set up.

  • I got linux for a while and it was too much of a hassle to use. Such a pain in the ass for a "superior" OS.

  • Enjoy your spyware.

  • Enjoy your basement

  • uhmm... I don't have a basement... sorry... And I don't have time to maintain Windows either... I've got better things to do with my time.

  • like jack off to furry porn?

  • furry porn ? lol wtf is that

  • the stuff you jack off to

  • Is that anything like Pimpzilla for Firefox or Fluffy Bunny for KDE ?

  • Yes, a very fluffy bunny only with a big cock and titties at the same time.

  • You seem to be quite into this stuff.

  • I don't think Puppy is really intended for gamers.

  • what tweaks did you have to do to get it running? did you change it to DX8 more somehow instead of DX 9 ?

  • He made it windowed.

  • I have a linux portion of my harddrive that i made when i had to wipe everything. I made it to play around with something new. I TRIED getting steam on there but it didnt work. But now i see this im surprised. Nice job.

  • I would switch over to linux in a heartbeat if my ati and creative sound card were natively supported by it

  • Uhhm dude, the ati cards are supported?

  • Comment removed

  • On windows it runs perfectly, but with linux, 3-6fps...

  • Are you jealous of ATI users or something? Since the x series destroyed the 7 series back in the day you bought your card?

  • Can i run tf2 in ubuntu with:

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs)

    Memory: 1024MB RAM

Video card name: GIGABYTE Radeon X1600 PRO

    Display Memory: 256.0 MB

    Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

    Reply please, thanks

  • easily, and on high setting with high(ish) resolution

  • go to google and type in "canirunit" first link should answer any questions.

  • Yes but SOME ati cards have lots of touble on linux when it comes to the source engine so check to see if your cards drivers will work well

  • wish i knew how to do this....way cool dude

  • I installed the font files but my friends menu and the community pages still look horrible

  • try reinstalling steam after you install the fonts

  • You should use some kind of screen recorder & a mic instead of filming your screen :D

  • when ever i try to run it it just get stuck loading and nothing happens

  • How do you get it running properly through WINE?

Whenever I try running TF2 in Ubuntu, it freezes when I try to connect to a server.

  • Set hl2.exe to run under Win 98.

  • If anyone messages you on friends in game it crashes like fuck.

  • this is running on directx 8.1

    rather run it on winxp

  • yeah but its cool because tf2 isn't linux native. You can't run much linux software on windows.

  • Amazing gaming experience man

  • team fortress 2 run in Linux magic box 12 ?

  • Ok i need help. i have team fortress 2 running in my windows XP, and the loading is just horrible. Plus its all choppy. same thing with audio which makes the game virtually unplayable for me. can do you have any suggestions to fix these problems?

  • Could it be just your hardware? You need at least a decent computer to run this well. Check the recommended system requrements, you may need to upgrade ur gpu. Im not sure about the load times though.

  • What can I say, I have the same problem. I guess this game is heavy on memory demand. The minimal will not work.

  • fps_max (your monitor refresh rate in Hz).

So let's say you're running at 75Hz - type fps_max 75 and enjoy some gaming without lag and choppyness. Also needs to be done before joining a server.

  • Lol I played with you last night. hac clan FTW

  • I like it when you pick up the DVDs and show them in front of the screen. For a second, I thought it was some kind of disc weapon in the game, but it was just your hands and the game DVDs.

  • Great video.

So I'm curious what the fps delta between running this native in XP/Vista vs WINE. Have you tried any benchmarks between the two?

  • Lol, my PC gves 21 FPS maximum on Counter-Strike 1.6 and that's on the loading screen.

    In-game I get about 14 on average.

  • in linux????

  • Nope,Xp i just thought I'd say :D

  • haha

  • Everything based off that Source engine that they dish out seems to work a-okay. Half Life, Half Life 2, CounterStrike: Source, etc.

Currently, even COD4 works on full settings with no real issues whatsoever, and as soon as they finish building and implementing a DIB engine for WINE, it'll speed everything up and make more programs run at acceptable speeds.

I use/test WINE regularly. It's really worth looking into.

  • this runs even better than my pc , my graphic cards suck , lines actually come out from characters and props and backgrounds :(

  • sounds like artifacting

(when crap happens with your graphics)

you should check to see if it's overheating

    what card do you have?

  • nope , its intel family chipset

  • so is mine

  • just got linux unbuntu 8.94 and i love it. Got wine installed and going to try css

  • The water looks fucked.

On Windows the water is transparent and looks awesome, this isnt the case on WINE. Apart from that, it its the same thing =)

  • I'm pretty sure that's because he's running everything as low as possible

  • Nope, i ran it myself on Ubuntu on highest quality, it happened to me too. :/ Maybe its fixed on WINE 1.0

  • I hope it is. I plan on switching to linux once I get home, and TF2 is one of my favorite games. I'm just not sure which version of linux to use :X

  • wats wine anyways

  • Helps some Windows applications run on Linux

  • Its a compatibility layer that allows you to run Windows based apps on other OSs. (Essentially, removing the need for a copy of windows).

Its not perfect, but it does the job. You may encounter some glitches in games, etc.

  • Wow didn't know you can get so much out of Wine...

  • 3 more days for Hardy Heron!!!!

  • Cool! Thanks, dude! Specs for CPU, motherboard, and RAM?

  • Cool! Thanks, dude! Specs for CPU, motherboard, and RAM?

  • I need help with font in Steam games.... Can someone help me.

They look really small and pixelized....

and I have another question. How do I make my drivers work in WINE?

  • 7800 GT.....god damn you hahaha i i have a 7500 but thats all i need for tf2

  • I've got a 7500... a RADEON 7500... ahahahah... can't even see TF2's startup menu.... -_-

  • sry idk why i thot i had a 7500 lol. i have an 8500 GT

  • That's better than a 7800GT... my 7500Radeon is generations behind... Anyway, if you're using Ubuntu as well, what are your system specifications?

  • 2GB ddr2 ram

3.46GHz intel celeron single core running at 3.47GHz

PNY nVidia GeForce 8500 GT 512MB ram

  • 8500 GT is not better than 7800 GT. 8600 GT is however equal.

  • wow and I thought my radeon xpress 200m was bad lol

  • Could you post your specs?

  • Just a few questions:

    1. Do you have to play on OpenGl when playing games on Linux?

    2. What resolution do you play on and what settings?

    3. Speccs?

I'm thinking of going over to Linux so.. I want to know.. :)

  • @Loyen91 I'm using a n450 atom processor, my boot to use time is <25 seconds and my google chrome loads in <2 seconds ^^

  • dude you dont have lag :O

  • i want to know, does it faster than under windows?

    thanks

  • Depends on GPU, most of the time Windows is a tiny bit faster but some GPUs make Linux faster.

  • hi thank you for your response~~

    i will try it ...

  • Question, do u need windows on a partition and linux on another partition and all ur games already instaled on ur windows and play them through linux or do u need to install the games through linux?

    pls reply

  • I think you have to install games again on Linux (but you can keep configs, binds and savegames)...because WINE doesn't like games running on NTFS drives.

  • k i no whut to do i got WoW running on my ubuntu

  • watch?v=DIzgUq4Lpa4

    Shows how to very easily.

  • windblows isent any good

  • Why isn't it? I have no problems with it.

  • You should be getting more fps than that :/

  • I need help here... Everytime i try to play this game it loads VERY slow but my computer is quite good and when the game STARTS it run just fine with settings on high, can you help please

  • have you instaled the drivers?

  • Which Drivers should I install?

  • Which Drivers should I install?

  • does he have 3.2 intel dual core total or that much in in to dual cores

  • hey, i did it through wine as well. but i have no video options for AA. do you get any?

  • do you have to buy the orange box?

  • isn't cedega faster than wine? that's what i experienced, i haven't actually used wine in a while though.

  • Bye bye windows!

Whats the specs of the pc your using for this?

  • where i can find wallpaper like this please tell me ???

  • google dude

  • Bahhh, wish I could run Ubuntu. It's such a nice OS. I can't get it to boot from the disk though -sigh-

Definately getting the Orange Box soon too =D

  • DL if it wont boot from cds

  • Are you running it in DX8 or DX9 mode?

From the video it looks like DX8 mode, judging by the burning effect on the heavy that's got flamed by the pyro (it looks much different on dx9 mode), this could explain the texture quality being worse, as texture quality is better in DX9 mode along with a few other effects.

  • Totally untrue everything youve said.

Textures are identical in all 3 version of direct x. (Special affects are what is different, lighting dust, smoke etc etc)

Also FYI, there is nothing graphically DX10 can do that DX9 cant. DX10 can run textures in higher res than DX9 and has an easier programmable interface (for programmers) but thats about it.

Compae DX9 to DX10 in DX10 games (Bioshock and Crysis) and youll see the difference is so minimul its very hard to tell which is which.

  • Textures DO look worse in DX8 mode because of the worse lighting and bump mapping, you've just agreed with me. He mentioned that some people say the quality is reduced under Linux and I pointed it out that it is because TF2 is running DX8 mode.

and I never mentioned anything about DX10 at all, what the hell are you jabbering on about? Totally irrelevant.

  • wowowowow First I want to know how to install steam for ultimate ubuntu... I have wine but I still don't know how I can install it

  • it would probably work on the steam version too.

  • great video! thanks

  • what about cod 4 for the pc?? can you do the same thing.

  • will this work with the steam only version as well? Is there any benefit to doing this over using windows?

  • Amazing video man. Very helpful!!
