I have a linux portion of my harddrive that i made when i had to wipe everything. I made it to play around with something new. I TRIED getting steam on there but it didnt work. But now i see this im surprised. Nice job.
Ok i need help. i have team fortress 2 running in my windows XP, and the loading is just horrible. Plus its all choppy. same thing with audio which makes the game virtually unplayable for me. can do you have any suggestions to fix these problems?
Could it be just your hardware? You need at least a decent computer to run this well. Check the recommended system requrements, you may need to upgrade ur gpu. Im not sure about the load times though.
I like it when you pick up the DVDs and show them in front of the screen. For a second, I thought it was some kind of disc weapon in the game, but it was just your hands and the game DVDs.
Everything based off that Source engine that they dish out seems to work a-okay. Half Life, Half Life 2, CounterStrike: Source, etc.
Currently, even COD4 works on full settings with no real issues whatsoever, and as soon as they finish building and implementing a DIB engine for WINE, it'll speed everything up and make more programs run at acceptable speeds.
I use/test WINE regularly. It's really worth looking into.
Question, do u need windows on a partition and linux on another partition and all ur games already instaled on ur windows and play them through linux or do u need to install the games through linux?
I think you have to install games again on Linux (but you can keep configs, binds and savegames)...because WINE doesn't like games running on NTFS drives.
I need help here... Everytime i try to play this game it loads VERY slow but my computer is quite good and when the game STARTS it run just fine with settings on high, can you help please
From the video it looks like DX8 mode, judging by the burning effect on the heavy that's got flamed by the pyro (it looks much different on dx9 mode), this could explain the texture quality being worse, as texture quality is better in DX9 mode along with a few other effects.
Textures are identical in all 3 version of direct x. (Special affects are what is different, lighting dust, smoke etc etc)
Also FYI, there is nothing graphically DX10 can do that DX9 cant. DX10 can run textures in higher res than DX9 and has an easier programmable interface (for programmers) but thats about it.
Compae DX9 to DX10 in DX10 games (Bioshock and Crysis) and youll see the difference is so minimul its very hard to tell which is which.
Textures DO look worse in DX8 mode because of the worse lighting and bump mapping, you've just agreed with me. He mentioned that some people say the quality is reduced under Linux and I pointed it out that it is because TF2 is running DX8 mode.
and I never mentioned anything about DX10 at all, what the hell are you jabbering on about? Totally irrelevant.
I'll be honest with you folks that Linux can run almost any Windows game (well lag a bit in some game).
It's not because of Linux, stop crying about it and check you installations and hardware.
If WINE isn't your satisfied emulator, try PlayOnLinux or CrossOver.

dude im running on an intel graphics chipset.
TF2 = EXTREME lag hole.
HL2 = fine.
HL2 EP2 = a bit laggy. CSS = Fine.

I believe you should upgrade your hardware systems.

can linux use Directx 10
BigTysHouseOfTech 1 year ago
@BigTysHouseOfTech No, only Microsoft have DirectX.
They will never ever release the source code for DirectX, so it won't be possible to run games in DirectX mode.
You have to run them in OpenGL (Open Graphics Library), which is open source, and will continue to be so.
nazi8per 1 year ago
@BigTysHouseOfTech Linux, BSD and Mac OS, and console use OpenGL while only Windows uses DirectX.

fps_max (your monitor refresh rate in Hz).
So let's say you're running at 75Hz - type fps_max 75 and enjoy some gaming without lag and choppyness. Also needs to be done before joining a server.

Its a compatibility layer that allows you to run Windows based apps on other OSs. (Essentially, removing the need for a copy of windows).
Its not perfect, but it does the job. You may encounter some glitches in games, etc.
