  • i have the audi S3 MK3 and i have to say i love it i had a bmw M3 before i changed i am missing the extra power that the M3 gave me but the road handling of the S3 is just out of this world,

  • In my country the registration for 3200cc engine in R32 costs 2000 euro per year,but for 2000cc in audi S3 it costs only 300 euro... And the s3 have the best interior in it's class...

  • Im waying up between an S3 or the R32 i know SADLY!! they are no longer producing the R32, because bloody europe is complaining about there fuel emissions!! Ive heard VW is bringing out the an R20? the R32 shell with AWD system and a newer version of the GTI engine? if so i reckon it would be a lil ripper, but i cant wait that long so here comes a 2nd hand 2008 or 09 R32 :D

  • To answer XaviMdo, you said "stats are not only aspect that matters" well thats the only reason youd buy an S3... so that you can say you have an awd turbo hatch with 261bhp, that can do 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds... the reason i say this is because the driving experience is utterly shithouse... so what i suggest you do is wait a couple years till you get a license, go to the dealer, drive test drive you crummy S3, and then come back and see what your stance is...

  • I think I will wait for the new GTI-R. The R32 is out of production and the S3 doesn't handle well.

  • The only Audi worth buying is an R8, its a masterpiece. Every other Audi is characterless and dull ( bar the RS4 which is sublime but still not an M3s equal).

    Audis are only good at keeping unco-ordinated drivers on the straight and narrow with their idiot proof quattro and putting the engine so far forward that the all the cars can do is understeer.

  • So you're saying that everyone with AWD is just an idiot uncordinated driver....Cause that's a smart statement. I'm sure WRX owners out there would like to tell you a few things. "RS4 not an M3s equal" ha ha ehh how wrong again. It's not just about those straight lines and whose got all the power. Audi knows the roads are not always straight and or are they always dry. BMWs god help you if the track or road isn't dry cause then you're in trouble.

  • You make a good point n i think the Audi Quatro sytsem is great, but a true drivers car is RWD dont you think, it takes the most skill and you can have more fun with it whilst bearing in mind you could easily get your self in2 trouble if your careless with it or you dont know wot your limits of talent are.

  • 2007 Type R claims to have driven both? how can you say a sterile little 2 litre turbo which under steers through corners, has numb lifeless steering, a clutch thats either on or off, and has more lag in manual version between gears than an sti haha... seriously thats a joke. The only fun part of driving an s3 is being able to floor it in 1st gear round a round about.

    The dsg in the tt-s/S3 does a far better job of keeping the engine on boost between gears, if your going to get the s3, go dsg.

  • To that idiot 2007 Type R... you claim the s3 has emotion and drama while the 135i doesnt? haha have you even driven the car? the S3 is perhaps one of the most sterile performance cars one can buy... why do you think its not been praised, while jeremy clarkson made the bold statement of saying the 135i is the best car bmw currently make. The 135is engine is a lag free masterpiece that sounds raw and racy and has oh so much tuning potential.

    Its a cut price M3, an S3 is a quasi 4wd gti.

  • The S3 is noticeably faster than an R32, but is if anything ultimately less rewarding to drive, it feels far for fwd than the R32, and is just less fun to punt... dont even talk about the R32s exhaust note, which is just about as good as it gets for a 6 cylinder car.

    The 135i on the other hand, has nice meaty steering, that without the active steering option is typical bmw, its rear wheel drive with near perfect 50:50 weight distribution, makes it sublime through the corners.

  • If you go and drive an S3, then drive an r32, and then a 135i, you will see how dissapointing the S3 really is. Firstly, it feels dead in the steering ( which is overly assisted and numb), as wheel as feeling front driven ( which it is until the haldex clutch detects slip and transfers power to the rear).

    There is noticeable lag between gear shifts, and has slow throttle response... this engine is inferior in its driveability to a normal GTI.

    Thirdly, the Engine has a harsh crap sound.

  • This is a great car. The 135i is faster with a nicer engine but I personally prefer the S3. My only gripe really is the character of the engine. Whilst it is highly praised I am a little spoilt as I currently on a 2007 Type-R which develops 200bhp without a turbo. Much more free revving and the sound is 3 times as better as a S3. The honda engine and exhaust note is sublime... try it in a tunnel one time and you will swear you have gone to heaven. That said I am buying an S3 for my next car....

  • year ..but you know that the s3 engine is a turbo charged VW GTI engine....im also not happy with the turbo lag in the s3...but im stuck between the AUDI TT or S3 for my next car

  • Yes I was looking at a TT-S as well but it's not worth the extra money, especially as you lose practicality. I've still not ordered the S3... Got a few more weeks to decide. Maybe with a nice tuned exhaust it will sound better but I think the engine in general is quite boring.... Oh well! You can't have EVERYTHING in life perfect :)

  • yeah i think the S3 is the best choice but i wouldnt tune it..it can cause problems..its fast enough i think....and it looks cool to :)

  • your incorrect, the S3 does 5.7 seconds according to Audi while the the 335i manual does 5.5 seconds according to bmw stats. Independant tests show the S3 barely being able to crack 14 seconds over the standing 1/4 mile, while the 335i runs as low as a 13.3 stock. Perhaps you should read car and driver, road and track, edmunds etc... because you have no idea. A 135i is the S3s competitor, and it will utterly thrash it. A 130i doesnt have the straightline speed, but will out do an S3 on the track

  • so what the f*ck, go buy your 1 series...o maybe enjoy it and shut up. stats are not the only aspect that matters..and as long as bmw does not bring an m1 to the market the s3 will be the top premium hothatch

  • I agree...I've driven both. The 135i is quicker but I prefer the S3. The 135i does not an M car and so it's just a typical BMW with a big engine... no drama... no emotion... just plain and boring. The S3 on the other hand has some history, some drama, it has something SPECIAL about it. Just compare the interiors of both of the cars and you will find the S3, especially with the bucket seats, makes you feel special.

  • Intersimone, you clearly are intellectually challenged, so perhaps you should be enlightened that a 335i is quicker in a straightline and on a closed circuit than an S4... and with a minor remap/chip the 335i can decimate an RS4... the RS4 is no matched at the e92 M3, but its slightly slower in straightline and closed track applications.... It can get better traction from a standing start than an m3, but has notably less topend pull, and above 80mph the m3 is far quicker

  • well a new Z06 will blow out all of those. what the hell are you trying to get at. They are cars.. people buy the S3 because they don't like the 135 and vice versa. they are all nice quick cars for different people. people arguing over this shit is getting so lame/old.

  • he said the 130i hatch....not the 335i.the 335i is actually 0-100km/h in 5.6 the s3 is 5.5 but some say its 5.7...anyway the point is 0.1sec faster does not justify you calling someone 'intellectually challenged' when clearly you compare cars to what you see on paper not how they are in real life

  • This car has completely numb steering and is devoid of feel, it has a fwd bias ( Haldex system), so it understeers heavily, and the front wheels have to break traction before power is shot to the rear wheels.

  • By the way, the sound is fantastic. Especially from the exhaust, it sounds like a subaru from outside. I love it when the turbo starts to whistle after 2500 rpm...

  • I have an audi s3 2008 and it is phenominal. The power delievery is not 'poo', it is astonishing. It feels far faster than the 5.7 second 0-60 claim, and getting to 155 is easier than it sounds. Everything about this car is absoloutely awesome.

  • I would like an audi rs3 please lighter, stiffer suspension, sharper rack, lighter alloys one off specials semi slick tyres, no air con, no spare tyre lol. keep the 4wd but have the split in favour of the rear like 60/40 or maybe even 70/30 :p uprated turbo more around 31obhp that would be one fast car would like to see that against an s4 or even rs4 or 335i 3 series turbo
