@slimhunter89 I guess it should be, but u need a bootloader anyways. I have an idea of making a fat32 partition and simply clone (ghost) the whole cd on a hdd (or in your case thumb). I have an everyday test machine, where it'd be useful to have some "write permissions" on mini xp.
Oh yeah, the hiren's boot for usb stick should be existing and downloadable somewhere already.

is it possible to "extract" the mini xp from a hiren's boot cd to put it on a thumb drive and boot from there??

@madnessmaddy i'll try that one of these days...the mini xp looks a lot better than win CE, as you find it installed on arm-based computers.
