You come off as very "closed-mindedly open-minded". You enjoy what you want to enjoy and damn the rest. The music people like to listen to is music that reflect their thoughts and feelings at the time that they're listening to it. That's what music is. i am a large supporter for the free distribution but for the public display like any other art and perfect copies or the original must be paid for for example taking a picture of a painting or recording off the radio its not tangible canadian laws are different though s we get paid by the radio stations for public preformance and d/l is not illegal but most choose to pay its more like donations to help out the artist but i dont think they should be making more than any other full time job

You are aware that an incredibly small amount of the money from albums sales ends up with the artist/s, right? And I don't see what the correlation between quality of music and quantity of albums sold is...most artists don't expect massive album sales, they know that the revenue comes from playing live. People who pirate albums are just as likely to go see the band live as those who buy their albums.

How do you think successful bands are able to fund these tours? you honestly think a band starting out is going to fund successful tours on their own with $4 gas?

A bands key to getting famous (resulting in record sales) is to, yes, fund their own miniature "tours" and build a strong fan base, getting them attention from a label. It all boils down to the live performance, which will inevitably result in album sales, which will lead to subsequent tours.

@iPodChallenger No, it's not that easy. There are good Pop musician. What is Pop? Pop is just popular music. So Pop and Rock are very related. You for example can't compare an artist like our German Herbert Grönemeyer who is talented in writing good lyrics and music with this fucking little boy called Justin Bieber.

@iPodChallenger Actually, you're wrong. "Rock" is short for rock & roll and "pop" is short for popular as in popular-music. Anything that's on FM radio in heavy rotation and listened to by people aged 15-40 is technically popular-music or "pop" for short. This includes but is not limited to acts like Kings Of Leon, Nickelback, Maroon-5, Kanye West, Fitz & The Tantrums etc.
Hence the subgenres pop-rock, pop-metal, pop-jazz
