Old In Flames or not, they're still good at what they do. Old In Flames is good at MeloDeath and New in Flames is good at alternative metal. It's just your personal preference, I like old more though.

This is what I love about IF all their albums still have the kick ass Swedish death metal sound but also mix in different sounds as well such as nu-metal, and techno. Each album brings its own unique sound.

I agree, metal in general has become such a parody of itself for example back in the 80s the "big" bands tried to emulate that late 70s style of singing to the point where every band sounded the same with the high pitched howls of "oh baby baby" similar to today every metal band sounds the same with the growls and screams over the double bass pedal drumming. nothing original anymore whatever happened to bands like cynic, old in flames, and malevolent creation? I wish bands would quit copying

i like slipknot but they never came off as a metal band to me...well until vol 3 was when they bacame more metal they started using solos and stuff which is ok but i liked them better when they first started and they were just a mixture of all different types of genres and their live shows were nuts.

For the guitars, which is why it's hard to recreate on live performances when you only have 2 guitarists. Which is also a reason why In Flames today isn't as technical as yesterday because of this. Which is what most people don't understand, In Flames even said it themselves about adding too much guitars and wanted to be able to play their songs live.

For the vocals, this is what happens when you start to get old and not as energetic as when you're young. xD

3 guitars doesnt slow down bands like iron maiden. And i believe the reason they changed their music was because they didnt have a permanent 3rd guitarist so they had to hire temps during their old tours

wrong about the the age thing. Anders changed because keeping a growl throughout concerts was too hard for him to due which then he would scream. After 'Whoracle' he found it easier to just scream on the album as he did in concerts anyway.

They switched band.. Anders were in Dark Tranguillity and mikael in flames, but in flames wanted to have more clean vocals, and mikael is crazy at growling, so he switched to DT

Stanne was in Dt together with Anders, just that he played guitar. they did the album skydancer(About at the same time, Stanne did lunar strain with in flames), and then Anders leaved the band.

Then he joined ceremonial oath, did one album, left the band and joined in flames.

Anders actually started out as DT's drummer, but the first guy who was intended to be at vocals changed his mind

And since no1 else stepped up, Anders the almighty began his career with DT and then later on with In Flames :)

No mikael was never an offical member he was session

@zuschlag123 No, no, no. Mikael was the rhythm guitarist for Dark Tranquility, and was never a member of In Flames, he did session vocals on their 1993 Promo, and Lunar Strain, but that was it. When Anders left Dark Tranquility after Skydancer, Mikael stopped playing guitar, and became Dark Tranquility's lead vocalist, and Anders joined In Flames two years later.
