I clearly saw a trailer with an open door midway thru the train. That most likely had something to do with it, probably somebody along the track saw it & called BNSF. Somebody forgot to close the latch & it rolled open. Even if the load is sealed, that won't kepp the door from rolling open, especially if it's bouncing on a flatcar.
At 1:41 a roll up door reveals theft once in progress with some items just below open door, the thieves have removed themselves most likely at Joliet.
@BoatGentleman6 probably a roll up door, either broken latch, left open, or broken into. I wonder how much stuff spilled onto the tracks 1000 miles ago.
I dont think he plugged it.Seeings its the DENCHI eastbound there could have been the job by the refinery saw it.Plus riht in this area we aways got stopped for traffic. About 1:42 for those looking.Plus not everything on these are going to Wally World lol. The AEI tags Metra is talking about do not tell us anything in the cab.
Dang!! Looked like my college roommate's closet - opened with all sorts of crap falling out of it!! Somewhere in the US, a WalMart shipment is lacking... ;-]
On Each of the cars has a code bar which registers with the company it tells them everything they need to know about the train cars where its going everything. then reports it to the engineer
Looking at Google Earth from NC, the line goes from tandem double track to separated double track. My guess is that a westbound did a runby inspection and called it out. Another option would be a defect detector that some of the tiles hit and required a quick and safe stop to determine the problem at that axle. No way of knowing for sure.
I think the engineer just made a full service reduction on the train brakes...never heard the train go into emergency. Engineers won't put the train in emergency unless they absolutely have to.
@SWIFT95330 Great for the environment. Great for the public whose families do not have to drive next to these trucks on the highways. Great for the taxpayer as the trucks are not beating up the roads far in excess than the trucking taxes pay. Great for the jobs created for draymen (local truckers) and those managing the lifts and the gates. Great for the train crews.
The good far outweights the bad news for the long haul trucker.
a pup trailer in the middle of the train had it's over head door left open. because that trailer was on a spine car freight was spilling on to the tracks. could cause a derailment if the whole skid fell out.
I didnt hear it go in the big hole. It looks like he went to full service. I will say that from my time on the road we would just stop and I would walk back and check it out and possible pick up the product on the car and close the door and report the car to the dispatcher. Spine cars are easy to change hoses on...Now a pig or a rack well that is a different story. That hogger had the hammer down and that is the way to run any train! Great Video!
Omg!!! I was the one who reported that train. I was out train spotting near Gorman Road and I saw that train go past with the open door, so I had my cell phone with me and I called the railroad. That was quite an exciting day. And my scanner said the train that I reported stopped about where you were video taping.
That crossing is rough. He most def ripped the hose out on a car. I think i saw which one it was at 1:17 seconds watch when it gets to 1 21 you see a car come off the crossing very hard that is most likely where the train dumped the air out. Lucky for the engineer its not that far back to walk and change the hose. 15 mins the hose wil be changed then gota wait for the locos to recharge which can take up to 5 mins on a train that long i believe
Conductors change the airhose not engineers, and it only takes a couple minutes. and its impossible to break an airhose on a flat care because they design the knuckles to be very small for that very reason, so they dont catch an airhose.
No your wrong. Some Railroads have different policies. LIRR has the engineer change the hose and some others do 2. And its not impossible to break hose. Shit happens
he didnt bust out the brakes he just set them. if the engineer would have put it into emergency you would have heard the vent valves open like dominoes from one end of the train to the other.

Nice steady video!
ALWAYS show the crossing in case some idiot gets hit.
At 1:41 I see a trailer with open door and material on the rail car.
How did they know? Who reported the problem?
Doubt it was emergency braking. That can be dangerous.

If you look closer they all are when they get to that spot, theres a slight dip in the track

Hit the emergency Brake?
How can you Tell!

Like an air hose burst or something.

At about 2:10 you can hear the air-line release thru the clacking which indicates the train has went into emergency.

@kybuddy No, no no no no no. The train had already started to slow down. There was no emergency application of the brakes anywhere in this video.

what excellant trains you americans have all them trucks off the highways makes alot of sense if you ask me.
Trainbuff2008 2 years ago 4
Most of it is due to the much larger amount of clearances required by US/Canadian Locomotives from Steam to now, as opposed to Europe/Rest of World

@Trainbuff2008 It sucks if you're a Truck Driver...that's about 100 drivers not working. Great for the BigBoss's bonus though.

wow a door was open on the pup trailer
justkiddin08 3 years ago
I'm curious- "emergency brakes" would seem to mean dumping the air, applying max braking, and likely locking up axles. Which would do lots of damage.
Also, the trailer "leaking" tiles seems to have no door(s), as opposed to an open door. Yardmaster would seem to have some answering to do.

The other track is Main 1 of the Chillicothe Subdivision. In this area, the tracks are split, up to around Pequot (a bit south of here).

Yep, that was the trailer. The conductor walked the train after stopping to check what car it was. I forgot to mention that in my description.
