The question of use of the sustaining pedal is a vexed one. I personally believe Chopin's directions should be followed. But modern pianos have greater sonority blah blah blah. Leaving this issue aside, it is wonderful to hear this interpretation.
when following exactly Chopins indications of pedal one gets a new understanding of the use of pedal et his time. He used it where necessary . Evere pedal used beside these indication should be done carefully so that it gives just more colour to the piece but not changing the intentions of Chopin. The pedagogues who got this from pupils of Chopin and therre is a big tradition of Chopin in france who was still alive 30 years ago did recommend this.
Again, this is a unique performance of this movement and for once not using too much pedal! It is wonderful to hear the cross rhythms, clarity of counterpoint, and sparkling detail; in that sense, only William Kapell matches Rosenthal but he doesn't quite have Rosenthal's amazing, colorful, and Romantic imagination.
I left a comment about Lipatti's recording on one of the other movements; I said it was one of the greatest, the other two being Rosenthal's and Kapell's.
you are fully right.... Kapell Rosenthal and Lipatti did a very good work on this sonata of Chopin. you are also very right with the pedal. Chopins indications of pedal are very precises and beside using the pedal there it should be done vey carefully and not disturbing the intentions of Chopin.

I liked the first three movements, including the sparce pedal, but it seems that for the sweeping fourth movement more pedal is needed.

What about Lipatti? I still think that his recording of this sonata has never been equalled...
