Problem I always have with this dance is that the steps are in a 3/4 time whilst the music is in 4/4. never undersood why ballroom dances were so out of sync with music..

For people watching, these are the basic figures taught to newcomer and bronze level competitors to ballroom dance when they're learning.

These are the basic figures in the American Smooth Foxtrot, and is essentially what you do before moving to silver and learning the Continuity pattern.

This should not be confused with the International Standard Foxtrot. The figures are not the same at the basic level.

Len - the caption calls this a "foxtrot" (no adjective). In two seperate places you call it a "slow foxtrot" and a "social foxtrot". I know this is a social foxtrot, but I'm sure newbies will be confused
