Lori Chatwin is a fantastic mother and has raised many wonderful, stable children. Ross is not deserving of any of the bashing you threw his way either. Out of all the men I have met from this community, he is one of the most loving and caring. Lori just knows full well that she got a GREAT husband.

I am not in any way defending this community or their practices. There are things that have taken place in the community that are wrong. But, in what city hasn't awful things taken place?

I very much agree with this. There is no way on earth that any of us can actually know whether or not God is involved in these polygamous marriages. Even if we don't agree with it and don't practise it ourselves, it doesn't give us the right to go around judging people for what they themselves believe. It's not necessary, and it just puts more hate into the world.

@lucy9359 But that still conflicts with the rest of my argument, which you have yet to disprove (because there is no way anyone can actually disprove it, considering that we can never know what God is thinking, because he is God and it's with FAITH that we believe, if we do at all). In addition, not everyone believes in the New Testament. The New Testament was written by men. Through God, it is said, but still by men. Surely there's much room for error.

I think you are referring to Protestants when you say "Christians." Regardless, they all started from the same root. And in the end, we're all people, Christian or Catholic or Mormon or FLDS. What's right to me isn't right to you, and vice versa. You can't put your own beliefs as 'right' for everyone else.

Still, these people are free to believe what they will, and I think that there's something to it. As far as Joseph Smith and his wives go, he was married to 14 year old girls and took other mens' wives. That doesn't sound like the act of a selfless savior to me, sounds like a power-hungry pervert.

Um, actually the Bible SAYS that polygamy is wrong (1 Tim). The Bible doesn't condone it at all. In fact, many of the problems in the Bible between different generations stemmed from the problem of a man having multiple wives/partners.

There is plenty of proof that the Bible is an accurate historical record. Jews, Philistines, etc... there is proof that each of these cultures existed at one time and they are backed by historical records, coins, artifacts... there is no proof of Nephites, etc.

What I'll add is that even if there was proof, people wouldn't believe or follow based on evidence alone and many would try to disprove the findings. I know people who have read the Dead Sea Scrolls and still think the Bible is a fairytale. Religion can't be 100% confirmed through scientific means or studies created by the natural man. That's just my two cents :-)

I don't know how FLDS's could have CHANGED anything... Joseph Smith himself practiced polygamy, as did Brigham Young and all of the other founders of the Mormon religion.

The LDS church as it is today is the one that changed, not the FLDS. FLDS stayed the same.

Mormons are referred to as Latter-Day Saints, are they not? Which means FLDS IS Mormon... fundamentalist Mormon. They retained the core beliefs that the founders of the LDS church had... so to put it more accurately, they are MORE Mormon than regular LDS Mormons. :)
