Yes! They are sooo cute!

I'm pretty sure that these are Ecuadorian crabs because of their big eyes, gray/tan coloring, and that they are so fast. There is another species C. rugosus that looks like the Ecuadorian crab, but at 1:30 you can see multiple markings on the shield (side) on the crab in the back, which is a characteristic of an Ecuadorian. To answer your other question, they are eating bread.

cruelty wasn't the reason the large crab walked on the other one, but merely onstict. Hermit crabs are notoriously stubborn and don't walk around things. Instead they dig or climb over things.

Wow! Your hermit crabs are very active! The small one is the cutest one i have ever seen LOL! I have a medium sized crab and he is not that active, but gets up to eat and drink at least every other day. Very nice vid!! just a few blurry moments :)

monkeyc8monkeydu (and anyone else who asked), the reason they are so fast is because they are ecuadorian crabs, which are approx. 50% more active than any other crab. They are so much cuter than you would expect a shelled animal to be.

ecuadorians are usually more active than pps cuz i have two ecuas and 3 pp and 4 strawberrys and the ecuas are always climbing on things

Again, please read the description to the right of the video. The crabs were only filmed in a cardboard box, they lived in a terrarium with plenty of moist sand, sources of calcium, a heat source, stuff to climb on and extra shells.

it was stated early on in the posts that they were just put in the cardboard box temperarily so they could be filmed and they dont actually live there. ONe thing i have noticed with hermit crabs is that they tend to go to the perimeter of anything and then follow it around, then work their way into the middle, any1 else notice that?

If you read the comments below you will see that these crabs didn't live in this box, they were in a really nice terrarium with lots of sand, water, toys, food and even calcium supplements. We just put them in the box to make them active for filming. I know how crabs are supposed to be taken care of, and in fact, I do research on hermit crabs as a part of my profession.

Hermit crabs are scavengers, therefore they will eat ANYTHING. But try to stay away from pellets and artificially made foods. Try beans, wet dog food/cat food, lettuce, anything. Remember to dispose of the extra food, everyday, so that it won't collect mold. And make sure he has a water dish that they can submerge in and come out of.

The place where I had the terrarium I think was too dry...I've had hermit crabs in the past and never had a problem... With this batch,I always kept plenty of water in the tank but I really should have been bathing the crabs and keeping the air humid inside the terrarium. It was very sad...
