I´m from Mexico and i found this Bass but haven´t any brand, but sounds really great, like semiacoustic bass, like no other . I still thinking to sale ... but i need more info about it!
I am old enough to remember when the Beatles first hit it big.....as a result a lot of these low priced japanese knock-off Hoffners hit the market.....they were sold at F. W. Woolworth, Lafayette Electronics and department stores etc
If it doesn't have a name on it, it might be Teisco, which is Japanese. Although that fingerboard-to-neck job does not look too Japanese to me: it is something you would normally associate with the Soviet Union.
this is an Aria - great basses - looks like it has been played plenty, Not original tuners, never saw pickups like that on them so I am thinking late 60s - the 72 thru 74 models like this also had different bridge - similar but different.
I have an Indonesian Hofner which came with a small sticker proclaiming its origin but of course I removed it. Without it a stranger would never know.
It's a conrad. I have the matching 6 string guitar that was produced at the same time. Everything matches...the shape, the pickups, the neck plate and even the font on the knobs. Fun little instruments.
Um, I think that this bass is missing the Truss Rod cover. It is OK, but it might be the reason why the fretboard is seperating. It is easily repairable. You can buy some wood glue and glue it back on, it will be just as it was before. The fretboard most of the times is a seperate piece of wood which is then glued on the neck of the guitar/bass. Really cool, by the way.
I just picked up a Aria Bass that's almost 100% like it. The only difference is the pick ups and the bridge. I'll throw up a video of it in the next few days, they both will be listed on ebay in the next few days, I'm open to offers on either or both basses. Thanks for your interest.
it is a zorko brand bass. I did some research on the scroll headstock and the type of pickups. Zorko used diferent tuners but those look like they may be replacements. electronics look identicle.
those type of violin bass guitars were found in pawn shops or spanish pentecostal churches long time ago...i remember pla'n one just like it, only a little more jacked up but it still played & felt real cool! "great video" thank U so much fer di memories; :o)
Listen to the guy saying its a Conrad and everybody else is wrong.

I had that same bass in 1972 that I bought for $55.00. It was a Conrad and had a mohagony insert in the tailpiece.

This is an early 1970's Conrad made in Japan.

@jqfs The 'Steel Reinforced Neck' plate on the back of the neck is exactly like the Conrad hollow body bass that I have. I vote for Conrad.

with the fretboard, its probably just that the plastic binding has shurnk over time and pulled the finish apart, im no professional though
LeviMan2001 3 years ago
In my opinion it was made by Pan. I have a Les Paul copy with the same plate where the neck bolts on the body.
