I think that part of the problem is that, with the current tax system (The tiered system), all major percentage increases are loaded towards the lower income brackets. For instance, excluding deductions, an independent contractor in New Jersey earning 25K would expect to pay 25.6% of his income on taxes. The same person earning 100K would expect to pay 37%. Within 75k we have in increase of 11.4% in taxation. Between 100K and 400K, there's only a 3.2% (37% - 40.2%) increase in taxation.

I sure as hell don't have the answer, but taxes should be fair. It should also be law that whenever we go to war, theres a draft and taxes go up until the war is over. Then the people have an interest to see that no unnecessary wars are started. IMHO. I'm open to other ideas though.
@CarlosIsDown With regards to fixing this mess, adding more tiers/brackets above the $374K line would be an excellent place to start. Perhaps extending social security taxation beyond the 107K line as well. Reduced (or at least rational) defense spending would be nice. In the last 30 years, the national debt growth has just been out of hand. Reagan: 188%, Bush Sr: 54%, Clinton: 37%, Bush Jr: 86%. Interesting that 8 years of Clinton cost us less than 4 years of Bush Sr. 'No new taxes' indeed.

The GOP rich have been brought, sold, bribed and squeeze by corporate America. They need to pay taxes on the money they have earned from special interests. He doesnt see that the 700 Billion would be allowed to remain in the private sector to really help the economy...he sees an imminent budget deficit... which could easily be addressed by cutting 700 Billion in spending.

Produktion and savings is key to any economic sucess -not consuming on borrowed or printed money.Bad dept needs to be liquidated so that people can go back to work .Bernanke wants to liquidate the dept with inflation. I think that part of the problem is that, with the current tax system (The tiered system), all major percentage increases are loaded towards the lower income brackets. For instance, excluding deductions, an independent contractor in New Jersey earning 25K would expect to pay 25.6% of his income on taxes. The same person earning 100K would expect to pay 37%. Within 75k we have in increase of 11.4% in taxation. Between 100K and 400K, there's only a 3.2% (37% - 40.2%) increase in taxation.

Perhaps extending social security taxation beyond the 107K line as well. Reduced (or at least rational) defense spending would be nice. In the last 30 years, the national debt growth has just been out of hand. Reagan: 188%, Bush Sr: 54%, Clinton: 37%, Bush Jr: 86%. Interesting that 8 years of Clinton cost us less than 4 years of Bush Sr. 'No new taxes' indeed.
