Mercury continues to exist for two reasons, 1) There are a group of customers who will not drive a Ford branded vehicle, but will drive a Mercury and 2) It gives Lincoln dealers a volume product to sell. I actually like the upscale trim and design of the Mercury models over the Ford cousins. You get 2 differently styled vehicles to sell for little more investment.
