Waldner lost one game in the 92 olympics to Rosskopf, but didn't drop a single game in the 97 worlds. Amazing. Yes, Waldner got in trouble with his father when he was young because he kept throwing his racket etc. His dad wouldn't tolerate that behavior. Waldner said it took him a while, but he had to learn how to lose.
home court or not, those viewers are nothing but bastards.they´re laughing and screaming when waldner produces a serving fault and don´t even give him any credit for good points. what a bunch of moronic and self-obsessed nationalists. thank god cheering customs have changed over the years.
it´s their prerogative to root for their player, but a tiny grain of fairness wouldn´t do any harm.
Of course, the crowd was behind the Korean guy. This was Seoul Olympics, 1988. Eventually, Yoo Nam Kyu grabbed the Gold and Kim Ki taek, Silver. It's all Korean Finals, and both penholders.
Every host country gets it, as they should.... for putting up all the athletes in housing, organizing the opening closing ceremonies, preparing venues and so forth.
That's the LEAST the world could do do for any host country - whether it was Moscow, Los Angeles, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Athens, Beijing.
who could ever play in that noise???? crowd - shut.the.fuck.up. oh well, a few years went by and waldner beat the shit out of everyone anyway :)

It's called home court advantage... get over it.

Waldner would return with vengeance four years later and win the 1992 Olympic gold - without losing a single set.

Waldner was strangely good during his prime.

The style of Kim is really like Liu Guoliang lol
lampnmarco 2 years ago
i have to disagree. Kim is clearly a ball basher much like most small pips players, excluding guoliang who was really much more of a looper.
takkyu101 2 years ago
Waldner always had trouble against short pip players
