@mr2pritch I agree with what you said, but there has to be a better way for all of that package to be made with better materials so that they last longer and so you won't have to go to the mechanic shop everytime one of those plastic parts go bad and cause the engine to perform poorly. I see plastic used in this engine. It sure performs, but I'm sure it is bound to fail at 100k miles just like mine. The more I fix it, the more I find new problems with it's plastic parts and plastic gaskets.
@GMoyron emissions, weight, fuel consumption, noise levels, refinement, etc etc etc etc...engines have to advance. we cant use carbureators anymore thats for sure. and direct injection/boosted is the way its going to go
BMW Engines were never this complex. Back in the days of the BMW 325is E30, E36 and E46, engines were relatively simple. Now it's a cluster fuck of catalysts, turbos, wiring and plastics. Requires a freaggin rocket scientist to work on it....Feel for ya if you gotta pay for maintenance...Which most won't. Those that can afford these cars will just sell em or trade for new ones.....Ahhh Rich life.
@MrLeefhead its because rather than having turbos on side like most engines they decided to mount them on top, hence exhaust coming from top. lookes kinda cool if you ask me :D
Very unique and intriguing design. I guess a pair of headers would be useless. How the hell do they control the heat?

wow more crap to go wrong. What happened to simple metal engines that DO last?

Great video, surprised I did not see this before. Nice to see the motor in detail.
