This song is impossible..... That Sylvian could achieve it beginning with a simple two chord melody beggars belief. It's like a Talisman though alive...the promise fulfilled by a singular artist who, upon turning his back on fame & fortune and declaring his "preparations for a journey" kept his promise to himself and his audience in many ways of which this is the quintessence
Where has he BEEN? Why can I have loved Bowie and Eno and Richman and MJ Cole and Arthur Russell and Penguin Café Orchestra &ct, and never have run accross Sylvian?! I don't understand why fate winds its way so unjustly, but cant can't a lover just love the loveliness?
not just the track, but the comments that it has inspired are equally as moving and breathtaking. beautiful words here and from the like minded souls that take the time to listen, and let the happiness in....
It is a silent night, a night to remember the times, young , full of hopes, and when times would get harder, then Sylvian would ease the sufferance a silent night, only the wind, the music, me...it was more than 20 years ago.Sometimes like today I open the door and listen to him, like a candy, a special candy...
I am so happy to watch these, and to read everyone's comments, and share all of this with all of these people all over the world. Down the right side of the page, I see all of these songs that have inspired me over the world. September, that I've sung a million times on crunchy fall grass, Blackwater, that has carried me across frail oceans and streams, and other songs I can't wait to discover. In smalltown Canada, loving David Sylvian was sometimes lonely. Now, it's not. Love to everyone.
I remember my girlfriend in college made a tape for her brother who was institutionalized with childhood psychosis. and it was some time later that she had the chance to talk with him. He had been nearly catatonic for years from anti-psychotic medications which seemed to be more for the benefit of the doctors & caretakers than the tortured soul. Yet he reached out to her and said "the song you sent has haunted me ever since..." she asked "is that OK" and he said "Yes"
The man is a master of directing movies for the mind with a song ! incredible ! the value of poetry in a mind in motion ! a true craftsman at the top of his skill !
Secrets of the Beehive is an undoubted masterpiece. I think I recognised its importance 2 me pretty much from 1st listen. It takes you 2 a place of beautiful melancholy and u don't ever really want to leave. It's really v. difficult 2 pick a favourite song being spoilt 4 choice but has he ever written anything more beautiful than On the waterfront? Not many people have or ever will. I feel that Sakamoto contributed greatly 2 this LP's brilliance and doesn't get the credit he deserves 4 it.
@MisAnnThorpe I am so with you on that... on all accounts. On The Waterfront, my favourite song (if I had to choose one). I saw him play it live a few years ago. To say the hairs on the back of my neck stood up is a total understatement... I love that so many people have left so many great comments on all of his songs on youtube .... just goes to show the kind of souls that like his music i guess. :-)
This one, for me, stands among the deepest and most moving pieces that Sylvian has created. In my humble opinion - a truly profound work. Bravo David!
sylvian66, I weep for your profound loss. In fact all of youtube weeps in unison. Please continue posting your private melodrama here for everyone to share. I have no doubt Saint Sylvian feels your pain.
THANX FOR THAT TRACK !!! it belongs to the most delicious remembrances of the feelings of my depressions in teenage times and how to feel NOT THAT lonely by listening this :-)
you appear quite hostile . I always took it as a compliment if someone was to copy me , i may well be wrong about your disposition but you were harsh in your earlier comment
Im glad to hear , i take my comments back and you are right , such a shame about the hate thing here -alongside some great channels . i guess we choose not to go down that road
Yes robson, I removed that comment. See my other comment so you understand what was going on. Again, I am sorry for having posted something so negative HERE, of all places.

Given the history, now i think you were a wee bit soft on the girl ;-) And i should have kept my tuppence worth to myself but,me being me ,i just cant help myself sometimes lol
@silmalila That's funny, that's exactly how I describe it too..... He seems to have a song for every mood and emotion.... I've been listening to him for 25 years and I never tire of his music and lyrics.... quite the opposite in fact!.... How wonderful to have enriched so many peoples lives.
@silmalila Ha ha ... I know ... bummer! Snow Borne Sorrow, the Nine Horses album was very good though I thought. But yeah, he kinda lost me on Blemish too ... If I'm being honest :-) He has such as amazing and experimental body of work that its a wonder he hasn't made more "inaccessible" (my diplomatic moment of the day) albums. He just paints the most amazingly melancholy images in your head. And so much production goes into each track, I just never get tired of listening to him....
yes, really interesting clip, thx for it! Can't say it is ultra funny sunny music to make parties in the sun (lol).. but it is extremely interesting ...! remembering me decidely a lot Mark Hollis work too (or later Talk Talk), without questions too; seems both artists/bands get the same sensibilities, it's for sure; results are beauty in that genre for sure at least. On a France road, on the Atlantic Ocean, it is early in the morning, the rain has to stop, the sky is grey.
But suddenly the Sun appears on the horizon, the ocean light illuminates the clouds and the voice of David Sylvian rises.
Let the happiness in! Let the happiness in!
Unique, unforgettable time.
The voice of David Sylvian, beauty, happiness, emotion...
The sky opens and the light becomes unreal
The artist sings and carries my soul. Thank you David.

Sur une route de France, au bord de l'océan atlantique, il est tôt le matin, la pluie vient de cesser, le ciel est gris.
Mais soudain le soleil apparait à l'horizon, la lumière océane illumine les nuages et la voix de David Sylvian s'élève.
Let the happiness in! Let the happiness in!
Moment unique, inoubliable.
La voix de David Sylvian, la beauté , le bonheur, l'émotion......
Le ciel s'ouvre et la lumière devient irréelle
