  • The 2600 was not meant for these sorts of games, it's better for arcade-type games. It doesn't work well on it.

  • This is without a doubt the manliest sounding video game in history.

  • wtf is your problem atari yours videogames sucks

  • holy fuck.....

  • I couldn't wait for Saturday morning to play this game!!...It was all I could think about!...

  • Is this funny?

  • wtf is going on

  • @LuigiDM I've tried to figure that out whole my childhood...

  • one of the best games for atari

  • Which minipixel is Superman?

  • Stupid ****ingest game ever.

  • I got this when it came out, and I always thought it was pretty good. I was a real little kid, but it was entertaining and I had learned how to beat it and would play it multiple times just to see how fast I could beat it. Same with the E.T. game, even though that one was more annoying because of the pits, but games with multiple screens in a "map" formation and an ending werent very common back then, and were a welcome change.

  • atari gleee ~ bettr than superman returns :(

  • I've been reading about the Atari 2600 and its Stella chip. If you had any idea how primitive its display capabilities were and how slow its CPU was, and the fact that you had to fit all game logic and graphics in less space than it takes to display the youtube icon at the top of your browsing tab, you'd be more forgiving.

  • i just played..sooo confused

  • I actually thought they put a lot of thought in this game. Lex and his goons blow up the bridge, you have to collect the bridge pieces and put it back together and capture Lex and his goons and put them in the prison. The kryptonite took away your ability to fly and capture people and if that happened, you had to find and kiss Lois to get them back. You also had "xray" vision which allowed you to see what screen was coming up next. In the 16-bit days, we mostly got side scrolling beat em ups.

  • @sglider dude, i was around for atari and you know know what? it sucked balls. if you didn't have the instructions, you basically moved around in some bizarre epileptic dimension most of the time in alot of these games. people wanted to be in the arcades where at least the games seemed to act and look like games.

  • @illuminatioracle

You were around back then? Shocking, judging by your reply it sounds like you're only 12 now.

  • @sglider oh yeah, I must be 12. yeah, it seems like an uncommon statement to say that some people thought the atari 2600 was unplayable garbage compared to the arcades around at the same time.

  • @illuminatioracle

Who's comparing Superman for the Atari 2600 to arcades at the same time? I was talking about most superhero games for the Genesis/SNES. Most of them were just side scrolling beat em ups with no thought to other gameplay elements at all. Not sure how you liking arcade games from 1979/1980 more than the 2600s "garbage" relates at all.

  • @sglider okay. then the superhero games in the 16-bit era were much better than this crap. sorry, but games didn't start showing ingenuity until the 8-bit era.

  • Is Lois that little girl with green clothes?

  • For a second, I thought my computer crashed or something. Then I relized it was the video...

  • between this and pacman, I feel that pacman is better for 2600

  • You played it for nearly 9 minutes! You are tougher than entire US Special Forces ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Three words: WHAT THE FUCK

  • Man! I would give my life to play this again!! :-)

  • @robjun2000 google it i just did it..you need stella emulator and torrent client for packed games.5 minutes of work:)

  • This game sounds like rush hour traffic

  • @JamiJR Indeed. Bee Gees kick ass!

  • I didn't know superman was jet powered

  • terrible and still better than superman 64 ;)

  • What just happened?

  • BUT...I thought it was great at the time.

  • I remember this. Seemed to make sense then, but remember the loud annoying sounds.

  • this game will explode your ears....

  • I often mention this game and many people who came along after 1979 don't believe it even existed. My brothers used to play it and they'd get so annoyed by how, whenever Superman rescued Lois, it would constantly "ding" that they'd purposely drop and kill her. I never understood why they just didn't turn the volume all the way down.

  • If you don't play games with bad graphics your not a real gamer -__- I like playing old games and I was born in a world with ps2 and stuff

  • When I played this I always thought he turned into Spiderman when he was walking.

  • Lol, gotta love all the AVGN fantards trashing this game when they haven't even played it.

It's from 1978, you retards. It's not fucking Call of Duty.

I'm not crazy about the Atari 2600 Superman, but it's considered by many to be among the greatest games ever made. It's also highly, highly influential.

You probably think Pac-Man sucks too. After all, it doesn't have online multiplayer or fancy motion controls.

And you call yourselves gamers. You all should be ashamed.

  • @pineapple10 Agreed. This was epic stuff back in the late 70s (add extra epicness if ever played this game to Walter Murphy's Superman Theme ;). The problem is, most gamers today are too young to remember or appreciate these old games (I'm 39 btw). It's the same with music, movies, TV and all forms of retro art in general. They'll be there one day, too...

  • THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!

  • Fucking Good Graphics!

  • Games with bad old retro graphics can still be intelligible. WTF is going on here?!

  • Why the fuck when he flys he sounds like a retarded truck engine.

  • petecos

  • that shit game

  • Finhacka en gul lök

  • amazing dubstep tune :L

  • valla basura de juego

  • Those calling this and other games of that era a piece of crap should consider this game was made in 1978 (yep, 33 years ago) and it was probably the FIRST game based on a comic book character. So don't go crying and curl into a ball when your grandchildren tell you our GTAs and HALOs were a piece of crap. Get it?

  • @RatedJpG

Yeah no. See, that point might be valid if it were Pong, Space Invader or Adventure. The problem with you're analogy is that GTA and Halo are playable. This game is not even playable, and it was horrible then, and it's horrible now.

  • @janesaysso Hi good friend. How old are you? Did you live in the 70s like I did? In a time when the Atari was, along with Intellivision, the best gaming options around? You see, I was talking about technology and graphics, not playability. Superman was playable because EVERYTHING was fully explained in the (printed) manual. We didn't had fancy tutorials, game guides, or the internet back then. It's a fact, in 20 years PS3 and XBOX360 will look and feel dated, just like those old systems. Cheers.

  • @RatedJpG That's real neato. Too bad you missed the point. It was a horrible game then and it is still a horrible game. People with nostalgia glasses might see it differently, but just because it was made in 70s doesn't really excuse it. I'm not sure what age has to do with it, sure I wasn't born in the 70's to experience it, but I was born in the late 80's and I've seen many people call horrible games on the NES and the genesis good games only because they played it as a kid.

  • @janesaysso Good friend, it looks like you didn't read my last comment at all. Honestly, that nostalgia bit you brought makes you sound angry and defensive. It's not a matter of who's right or wrong, If you think these games are horrible, by all means keep thinking that way. There are people out there who do get the point and give all things their time and place in history. So feel free to reply to this once more if it makes you happy to have the last word. I won't be around to read it. Cheers.

  • nie kumam tej gry do dziś..?

  • delicious ear rape... wait, is it good if blood comes out?

  • What the Heck are you supposed to do?

  • @999beme It doesn't sound like you actually watched the video but here it is: 1) Rebuild the Metropolis Memorial Bridge. 2) Capture Lex Luthor and his henchmen. 3) Change back into Clark Kent. 4) Go to the Daily Planet. In the shortest time possible.

  • sick graphics

  • @chaosdog05

Considering this came out 30 years ago. Geez kids, not every single video game had the graphic of the 360 or Wii

  • I was so excited when my parents got me this game. After playing the game I realized early on in life all that glisters is not gold. This game sucked big dick.

  • now think of crysis 2....

  • My god that made my ears bleed!!?!

  • i had this game, i don't remember it being so bad

  • I only took 1 second of this

  • i remember being a little kid, and being SO confused playing this game..my older brothers had this for their Atari..I'd pop it in and be like o_O??

  • I've thrown 9min of my life into the bin :S

  • its like a damaged TV

  • lol and this game 80$ ?

  • I can't beleive i paid 80$ for that piece of shit game.

  • Fuck, i never realized how annoying the Atari 2600 games were. I guess because thats all there was back then so we sucked it up.

  • 37 people were just delivered to jail by Superman...

  • I think the most fun I had with this game was getting hit by kryptonite repeatedly and raping Lois Lane.

  • Actually, this was the greatest Superman game ever. Can't even count the number of hours I spent with this. Lois Lane was super-frickin hot in this game.

  • I have had a lot of fun with this game when I was 4

  • I had to turn down my volume, god fucking damnit.

  • Ignoring what all the AVGN drones said, I don't think this game was that bad. It was one of the few games on the system where you could beat it, and the objective wasn't that bad. The only problem was finding things in the random sequence of screens. It isn't THAT bad, however.

  • @JPhands to me, games like this and et were just way too early a games because number 1- they lacked the graphics that they so desperately were in need of and number two- there was no way of knowing exactly what was happening unless you found out from somebody who knew the game very well. and yeah, im an avgn drone lol

  • One of my all time atari 2600 favorites. Just played it today. I wanna make a remake with better sounds, better animation and no flicker. Resolution would be the same. Perhaps a nice intro and a nice ending and include a flight with Louis over the statue of liberty. Oh if I wasn't so busy...

  • A couple things to remember here:

    1. An icon on your desktop uses more memory than this entire game.

    2. It was either this or disco music.

  • @ZlothZloth Hey, disco music is good. At least it's not like today where we have autotune so any tone deaf person can become a star and we get cursed with things like Friday. People actually had to have talent back then.

  • @ZlothZloth Um, and what's wrong with disco music? Unlike music today there was no autotune so people had to actually be able to sing. It's still better than rap, hip hop, and heavy metal. And ask yourself, who would you rather listen to, Donna Summer or Justin Beiber?

  • Comment removed

  • @JamiJR Errr, pointing out that some music is even worse than disco does not make disco good.

@Moschovitis Yep, that's Lois. You have to put her inside the Daily Planet. It looks like Jimbo got her in there fairly early but then the helicopter (my friend and I liked to call it the helimelon) flew in and pulled her out again. It may have flown in via the sewer system. I hate it when that happens.

  • OMG! I thought this was a recurring nightmare, it actually happened! I must have repressed this cruel joke. The horror, oh the horror!

  • The guy with the flyin umbrella was suppose to be Lex Luther. I can't believe we actually played this shit growing up.

  • I played this when I was a kid at my friends house, funny thing is I had no idea what to do, and I still don't.

  • This game is poetic

  • It's hard to believe crap like this actually cost $40-$50 per game back in 1980. That would be like spending $150 for a game today. I had all the Atari and Intellivision games at this time and I have no idea how I was able to afford them all. Oh, right...still living with my parents. The worst one I ever bought was Atari Hangman for $50!!!! I was so addicted, I even bought supreme crap like 3d tic tac toe. Ended up selling the whole set before they really dropped in value.

  • Atari must've been the worst fucking game company ever made in history! Just look at this kinda fucking garbage? Makes no fucking sense and are so gay you wish you had a fucking shotgun so you could blow the fuck outta every copy out of these stupid and pointless games.

  • @Togg525 Atari made really good games back in their day yeah sure the graphics on this game don't look good but this game was made in 1978 thats over 30 years ago games consoles have come along way since then.

  • @Togg525 Go back to your Call of Duty, if it weren't for the Atari we would never have games like we have nowadays.

  • what a mess of a game...the sound effects...makes you wish you were deaf.

  • his cape is like two pixels

  • looks like spiderman with a red bandana

  • Its true these games were great way back when they still are if you grew up in it just like all these other guys are sayin'.....

  • When your a kid, any game will entertain you. I remember playing this game all the time and ET too!...LOL!!!!

  • @dejon71 That is exactly correct. I remember getting ET for Xmas, playing it & having fun while doing so. Same with Superman. I also remember the game Haunted House & actually being a little scared when playing, LOL! @ the time, aside from being 1 of the 1st "Super Hero" games, Superman was "innovative", & had good graphics. I never could figure out the object of this game though. BTW, I'm so grateful for emulation! I have literally every vintage game ever made! I'm a HUGE retro-gamer!

  • @gjc82071 Yes!!! It was at Christmas time when I got ET and Haunted House. I remember spending hours playing haunted house, superman, and spiderman too! And finishing ET! And we didn't have anything to compare these games too either, these games were new. It sure beat playing pong!

  • @dejon71 I've read/heard that as adults, we spend our entire life trying to relive our childhood. Proof = video game, baseball card, comic book, etc collectors & the fact people took time to develop retro gaming emulators. While I like modern, I prefer vintage gaming (& TV/Movies). When playing classic games/Watching classic TV, often I can remember when, where & who I was playing a particular game/Watching TV with. BTW, do you still ever play Atari/retro games @ all? BTW, is 71 your B-day?

  • @gjc82071

The object was to put the bad guys in jail and rebuild the bridge.

  • I loved this game 30 years ago. It was one of the first games where you can do more than just one thing. You have to get the fugitivs and repair the bridge. And all this in many different screen. Great for that time...

  • it sounds like the Pitfall game trying to take a shit

  • This was as bad as E.T. For the Atari 2600

  • This game doesn't look fun.

  • Meh, still beats Black Ops

  • why are there so few dislikes?

  • @gaydanzig Because most of the people that played this game back in the day, appreciated it for what it was. Innovative, cool, fun, etc. Video games didn't start with Play Station. There are several previous generations of games. While they lack graphics, that is only relative to now. @ the time, people didn't know any better, the same way in 30yrs, people will look at Halo & laugh their ass off at how primitive it was. Also, many people still love vintage games/have nostalgia for them.

  • music hadn't been invented until the 80's, obviously

  • 35 PEOPLE GOT CAUGHT BY SUPERMAN !!

  • what in the hell is the goal of this game, its like I'm on crack while I watch this.

  • he looks like spiderman

  • @mic12397 Probably but with inverted colors. And Spider-Man game for Atari was vetter.

  • @mic12397 spiderman doesn't wear a cape, genius

  • @mic12397 I was thinking the same thing. lol

  • QUE HIJO DE PUTA SEBA

  • I hate this game. And i had it, unfortunately!

  • what the deuce is this?

  • This game was way ahead of its time.............

  • ???? this is a game!!??

  • @MisoCrazyCup LOL yeah you had to catch Lex Luthor and his cronies and put them in jail, Lex was the 1 on the helicopter thingy.

  • I remember playing this game on a huge black and white TV. Every time I hear any song from the J. Geils Freezeframe album, I think of this game.

  • for real tho. there is no logic or reason to the sound. it just makes random ass sounds for no reason.

  • i use to play this shit when i was kid back in the days this was awesome! fucking psichodelic game

  • i use to play this shit when i was kid back in the days this was awesome!

  • Sounds like someone's trying to connect to the internet through dial-up o.o

  • I really hope that there was or will be a Superman comic where he makes those god-awful sounds.

  • why does superman looks like spiderman. and whats that FUCKING NOISE????????????

game sound? are u kidding me? it looks like ears a invetion of the 90´ huh?

  • this game is better than superman 64

  • @DarkBota1 this game is suck ass just like superman 64

  • @DarkBota1

    -_- Thief

  • Better than Superman 64

  • Haha, what the heck is going on?

  • Clark Kent is trying to reach the Daily Planet. On his way to work the bridge explodes and he has to travel around (LMAO) the city in order to find the pieces of the bridge. Superman is also rounding up criminals along the way. The satellite looking things are kryptonite.

I played the shat out of this game and now wonder how the HELL!!! did I not have seizures growing up?!?

  • It was a really nice game - I played it a lot.

  • @SurfHaidersMustDie And your hearing survived?

  • Wow this graphics is away of 1080p, it has to be like 2080p or more Much better than PS3 and Xbox 360

  • can somebody explain what is even going on in this? all i can really make out is that clark kent goes into a phone booth to become superman. then he flies around....

  • @kingcrimson234

Well, you are superman. Lex Luthor and his guys destroyed the bridge... You have to put them in Jail, rebuild the bridge and go to the "daily planet" to report all as Clark Kent :-D

When you hear the strange high-pitch-sound, Superman is using his x-ray-vision...

Besides there exists a subway... You needed a map for your fitst games :-D

  • I once finished this game in 59 seconds, by pushing a few buttons to delay timer by a few seconds. lol

  • All I remember is that I never understood how to play this.

  • this was the very 1st video game i ever played i was 3years old

  • This game sucked so fucking bad I wish I had a kryptonite bullet so I can shoot myself in the fucking head with!

  • @liamcear12 lmaoooo

  • @liamcear12 The game was great for its time. Where talking early 80s.

  • When he flies, it sounds like a Mack truck engine...LOL

  • my microwave is more interesting then this game

  • @ohyourgoingdown My couch is more interesting than this game.

  • @ohyourgoingdown and it sounds better

  • This game is almost as cool as Megaforce.Long live the 2600.

  • For all you dumb fucks that don't understand this game I'll explain it....

The object is to locate Lex Luther and his gang and put them in the city jail. Also you must rebuild the bridge that they blew up in the beginning. If you get hit with Kriptonite you must find Lois Lane and kiss her to regain your strength.

  • Oh God, I'm so glad we are in PS/Xbox era now...

  • Ear Piercing mind FUCK ........... still better than superman 64

  • 34 people are in love with Robert Pattinson

  • Now I don't wonder why was the Commodore 64 called technological wonder back in the time...

  • This is better than Superman 64, actually

  • WTF?

  • Worst video game ever.

  • i had this game, i never understood it =S

  • I loved this freakin game. That;s Lex with the Heli-backpack. The bridge blows up and you have to collect the pieces . This game was def better than E.T. and Indiana Jones. The latter still gives me night mares. Worst part of ET was you fall in these pits and it would take hours to get out.

  • It took me at least until 1:04 to realise that he was flying people to prison. If I were born in 1976, I probably wouldn't have grown up with videogames if THIS was what I had to play with in my young age.

Long live the Atari A500, amirite?!

  • how did gaming EVER make it out of the 70s?

  • @BritishBlackOpps cus most other games at the time werent so bad

  • This is the most incomprehensible mess of a video game I've ever seen...

  • Wait, I didn't know you could rebuild the bridge! lol

I liked flying in the game, but god the flying sound is still as annoying as I remember it.

    Good times, good times.

  • This's the first game I've completed. really miss the final monotone on 8:38

  • @quiveror

That's not really as much of a monotone as much at it is an unsuccessful 'booping' sound, is it? Haha!

  • Thumbs up if the AVGN brought you here.

  • WTF is going on.... i see pixels flying and changing colors...

  • I'm not a big fan of video game systems that came after 1999. I owned an Atari 2600 along with this 'Superman' game. My question is, how the hell did I play it? It looks like the goofiest thing ever. It's like the games 'Adventure' and 'E.T.' combined.

  • This is the CRASH!!!!BAD GAME!

  • Oh my god. This is the worst game I have ever seen. Makes ET look like solid gold.

  • I think i got an epilepsy attack o_o

  • This game looks like a bad acid trip.
