@shitmanoc That's funny. I've never heard anyone say that this was a SHIT film. It may not be scary to some but it's still a damn good movie nevertheless.
@shitmanoc Yeah, The Exorcist and others such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Creepshow, The Thing, The Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. are some of the true horror classics that will never die.
Really awesome movie - not that scary at all but still great. Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair showed phenomenal acting. They both deserved the Oscar. I still think that the 70's had the greatest Horror films - this one, Halloween, Alien, Carrie, Black Christmas, Dawn of the Dead, Jaws, Amityville Horror, Asylum, The Wicker Man, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Horror Express, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Piranha, Shivers, The Crazies, Sisters.......to name a few
By all accounts, people - even today - continue to rank this movie as THE, or in the top 5, scariest movies of all time. Quite an accomplishment considering it was filmed 37 years ago. If you were too young to remember when it was originally released, try imagining yourself there and then, only then, do you realize how truly psychologically frightening it was for many. I don't think another movie has come close to the effect it had on millions of it's viewers.
@buck62sugar I look at the mindless crap now , SAW, Friday the 13th part 293, etc..and its nothing that law enforcement cant take care of, and just throw these assholes in the slammer for good.
But THE EXORCIST deals with something we really dont know alot about, the presence of evil manifesting ? where is the fine line between good and evil?? Still for me, the scariest movie I have ever seen.
@MVR326 I agree with your observations. Me and my girlfriend watched this movie last week and sure enough it took me right back to 1974 as that same frightened kid. It didn't keep me up at night but I still had those same freaky-deaky feelings as the first time during some scenes.
I think because the subject was treated seriously and with respect by the makers of the movie; the way the story progressed was pure genius.
I wonder if the movie has the same effect the more jaded younger crowd.
this is byfar the BEST horror film the world offers! other 'zombie survivals', 'demon replicas', and 'killer' movies dont match up anymore, theres a sense of... TrueFear in this movie, todays actors and directors just suck when it comes to putting the chills in their spines... if only we can get the old ones back...
Oh please! This movie is more funny & stupid than scary.
The Shining, Alien, Halloween, Jaws, Black Christmas, Carrie, Friday the 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Thing were really scary not this crap.
They did the trailer so much better then. It hid all of the scariest parts and made you almost wonder what they were talking about because it didn't really show but a glimpse of Reagan throughout the whole shot.
this scared the shit out of me I was 7 years old. The clip would always air at night just before I was going to bed to get ready for school
