  • They should make an American version of this. Actually on second thought, they shouldn't because it would probably be terrible.

  • theres an episode where Dara loses it over Rich Hall making jokes about his name or something, can anyone recall which episode that is, Rich was doing his usual deadpan but Dara thought he was having a go and started losing it a little, any takers? Trying to find it again

  • with Dara's family name does it get pronounced o'breean -Iain is an alternative to Ian and I am wondering about this as i have never seen that family name before. (my name is Ian by the way )

  • By definition it is zero... The whole scale has just been moved by 0,01°C in the 1990.

So on old (pre 1990) thermometers you should "recalibrate" the scale by 0,01°C...

    :-D

  • "I know this is just a comedy show but i won't let that fucker get away with that!" Hahahaha epic :)

  • @Speedy85 fecker

  • My old physics teacher was one of the ones who emailed in.

  • Proof positive that it's not just the internet that's anal as fuck. *He says as he checks his spelling 400 times*

  • @DigitalTwisted You missed a period near the end. :) Still a very fair point, as I'm phrasing this sentence very cautiously; even started it with "but" at first. Using a semi-colon is rather daring of me.

  • adverts on bbc???

  • "When you were in school the definition of the triple point was not degrees centigrade." I got so confused then I was like ooooh... naught! I doesn't help how british people pronounce 'not' like 'naught'.

  • @TheEyesOfNye It's our language. Get used to it.

*I really hope i don't start a race war by saying this.*

  • @Gavin17259 strangely enough if you knew a little about the history of English language. The English that Americans speak is closer to how England was 250 years ago than the English spoken today by Brits. When the Mayflower left with the puritans on board, everyone spoke the same, but English changed considerably due to the influences of Europe while in America it diversified much less.

  • @Ribbo I've never really thought about it like that before. I'm not sure if it's 100% true but it sounds feasible enough for me. Good day :)

  • @Gavin17259 haha, a race war. between the white people over there and the white people over here. We're the same brotha, only difference is you guys talk funny.

    I'm kidding of course!!!!!

  • @TheEyesOfNye Americans also use "naught," just not as often as our friends across the pond.

  • I love this show but the newest series is taking itself too seriously. I miss the times where the show had nobody but comedians on the panel. And seriously, stop bringing Sandy Toksvig on.

  • @MartinPurvis It is the right spelling... except for the missing aposthrophe.

  • @drumgroovy I'm very sorry, but it is not the right spelling.

  • @MartinPurvis What is it, then?

  • @drumgroovy Naa it is the right spelling but it is wrong to miss out the apostrophe :P

  • @MartinPurvis It IS spelled correctly, there are two i's in his last name.

  • @GerrohTheCommie I think he might be referring to the Ó..

  • @MartinPurvis They have. 59 idiots.

  • @MartinPurvis Why, how do you spell Dara?

  • @MartinPurvis They have just you and 72 idiots think otherwise.

  • i bet the guy who sent in that email feels so proud.

  • @NayimKay I would. Because obviously, It's more than a comedy show :)

  • Wow. How much of a nerd do you have to be to send in THAT complaint!

    xXx

  • I don't know what these guys are talking about. The triple point has to do with Temperature AND pressure. Meaning you can have a triple point at 0, 0.01, 10 or even 100 degrees Celsius depending on the pressure.

  • @regginscanjump i'd say that like most standard temperatures, this would be at seal level (1014 kPa)

  • OMG I want to move to britain.

  • hahahaha!

  • What series and episode is this from

  • @Unas1 series 3..... im pretty sure, cos i have series 2- which has the fact Fry was refering to.

  • @Unas1 Season 3 episode 12

  • Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence, it will fade away as we adopt reason and science as our guidelines.

  • @haz464 Religion and Science. The first stands on one big assumption/belief, while the latter stands on many smaller beliefs/assumptions. For all we know, it could all still be gnomes and magic. Just saying.

  • @ntnima Wrong, you obviously have brain damage if you don't understand how science works. We have no evidence of gnomes and magic so obviously it is not how things work. Typical theists with their strawman arguments. Just saying.

  • @haz464 you are absolutely right

  • @haz464 oh wait, hang on.. no you're not. I just rememberd the black swan theory. Imma take your warning about brain damage seriously though, and get meself a checkup

    derp derp derp

  • @ntnima Science relies on empirical evidence, not belief you dumb cunt. Although it's apparent to me you're a complete idiot since you can't even type properly :p Why don't you do your bit and kill yourself for the good of the gene pool?

  • @haz464 awww.. you're adorable. fear not. i shall castrate myself for the good of mankind asap.

I would have entered a respectable epidemiological debate with you. But, judging by your posts, that would be a futile move. So instead imma just continue to type like an idiot so as to allow you to vent your juvenile anger in this comment section...

c'mon keep insulting a complete stranger. gogogo you magnificent minded man. You comments are argumentative poetry to my ears.

    derp derp derp

  • @ntnima You see the problem here is you assume I am angry. What is actually happening is you are embarassing yourself by showing everyone you are a complete retard as evidenced by the fact that you don't even know what epidemiological means. Going to go out on a whim here and assume you meant epistemological, even then you don't make any sense because you didn't offer any cohesive arguments apart from "lol well mayb we're totally wrong!" Stay classy theist :p

    derp derp derp

  • @haz464 nah bro. I am no theist. I am simply not a hardline atheist. u can consider me a humble agnostic, simply cause I would consider myself unscientific to believe in the nonexistence of god without conclusive evidence to that effect.

touche for the epistemological point (spell check fail)

I don't assume you're mad. I'm amused that you treat me like a theist. I'm also amused that you're under the impression that you are defending scientific rigorousness while talking with silly vulgarities.

  • @ntnima It's not unscientific to be an atheist but nor is it unscientific to be agnostic either. The truth is we are so far away from a theory of everything that we can't yet know if deities exist or not, but given the extreme unlikeliness of any religions that have been imagined over the relatively short time sentient humans have existed then it is a safe assumption that deities don't exist. What I suppose we can agree on is that faith is a poor tool to understand the laws of our universe

  • @haz464 well, my point was that "a safe assumption" is not a definitive conclusion.

My initial post was drawing exactly on this thing. The fact that we choose to safely assume certain things in science is often overlooked. In fact most of the laws of physics apply only in idealized situations. Many of the scientific constants are best estimates (ergo the many smaller beliefs/assumptions)

But obviously science is much more useful and practical in understanding and engineering the world

  • @ntnima True, but science is an ongoing process and is subject to constant refinement as we uncover more evidence and can prove things. It is very rare for science to be completely overhauled, only in extreme circumstances is this ever done like when we thought everything in the universe revolved around the Earth or that the Earth was flat. Until we know everything that can be known, then there will inevitably be a belief element in science

  • @haz464 knowledge is defined as "justified true belief"

religions were perhaps the first attempts to achieve a wholistic knowing. They had belief, they were crudely justified and were taken to be true.

same with science, through the scientific method. Belief is the hypothesis. Justified is the testing of said hypothesis. Whether it is true or not though is always up for debate. True truth is not as easy to find as one would think when you have to rigorously prove it.

  • @ntnima

We see yellow flowers, bees see them as ultraviolet and bluey.

Science tells us what wavelength it is. That's truth. Colour is not a lie, but just an interpretation of something true. God is responsible for everything, whatever that is, is God, could be a god particle. But we know it's definitly not anything anyone knows. And therefore, the word is useless, and should be ignored. Hence why ignoring god is part of the scientific method.

  • @haz464 anyway man, youtube comment boards are a retarded place to discus the gnostic esoterism, science, and the nature of knowledge. It's 4 in the morning and I feel like reading a book.

I'll let you have the last word. peace out

  • @ntnima Yeah was just thinking the same thing tbh, sorry for the insults but it's rare to ever encounter anyone with any intelligence on youtube comments so I just assumed you were trolling/ignorant and got frustrated. see ya

  • @haz464 wow! i did not expect to find a well reasoned and intelligent (if a little vulgar at times) argument about the validity of science and religion whilst linking my way through youtube. i must say i'm impressed. you've both given me quite a lot to think about especially in reference to the "black swan theory" which i was unfamiliar with. thanks @ntnima and @haz464 :)

  • @RSVJosephV you blatantly googled it first to check

  • Fail.

  • ᴸᴹᴬᴼ

  • @HiddenRainful "Do you think that it is morally correct to economically deprive a site"

I'm not actually depriving them of anything. Your argument is that ad companies could hypothetically pay less because I don't watch their ads and that I should let this hypothetical situation influence my behavior.

"which many people like myself enjoy and respect"

    Relevance?

"because they use ads to support this site instead of charging viewers?"

False dichotomy. Plus charging for views would destroy them.

  • @HiddenRainful There's starving people in the world, yet you argue with me over whether or not I should dedicate my time to making sure a mega-corporation gets more money. There's nothing left to say. Disagree with me if you like, I'm not your puppet to dance to your subjective moral values.

  • @Antifides

    Google is not a megacorporation.

  • @can0mark This is true. I thought "megacorporation" basically meant "very large corporation" but it appears to be a more specific term.

  • @HiddenRainful Your morality isn't the only morality. Just because you don't like my views doesn't make me immoral or selfish or immature. My opinion is different.

By the way, Youtube doesn't give us videos. All they do is provide a central viewing location.

I can't choose to go to a site where they use donations instead of advertising because no such site can survive with YouTube in existence.

Your attempt to badger me into your morality has been riddled with fallacies and assumptions.

  • Comment removed

  • @HiddenRainful Oh, is that what direct insults mean? Let me show you the first insult in this conversation: "Stop being such a selfish cunt."

I didn't say it. You did. You should be careful not to make presumptuous statements about the intent behind an action when you've taken the action first because, while you can't establish that it applies to me, it's hard to argue that your own intent isn't the same as the one you presume.

I'm not obliged to watch their ads. Yay!

  • @HiddenRainful "You don't seem to grasp the fact that the world does not cater to you."

You don't seem to grasp the fact that the world does not cater to YouTube, which was my entire point, you stupid fuck.

  • @HiddenRainful What the hell do you think the INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT rates, exactly? And, damn it, stop saying stupid shit so I can stop correcting you.

  • @HiddenRainful At any rate, I tried to end this conversation once, I just can't stand idiocy. I am going to try, though. No matter how imbecilic your reply, I think I will leave it be this time. Enjoy.

  • @HiddenRainful I don't see how stating a fact is arrogant, especially when my intelligence has been called into question. I know what my IQ is and how that rates my intelligence against others. I can't believe you don't realize that not being able to imagine the relevance of imagination means you lack imagination. Demonstration of your lack of intelligence, I suppose. Imagination is involved in imagining alternatives to intrusive advertising. It's also useful in following a simple analogy.

  • @HiddenRainful Your message was marked as spam, so I didn't see it until now. The fact that you don't see how imagination is relevant is an indicator of your lack of imagination.

    Dumbarse.

    You're a bit dim, aren'tcha?

    Peace out :)

  • @HiddenRainful Your lack of imagination is amusing, but I think it's time to end this conversation. No matter what I say, you won't get any more intelligent. Bye now.

  • @Antifides

The level of HiddenRainful's intelligence apparently surpasses yours, be it unimportant. .

What they're saying is that YouTube hosts advertising space due requiring profit. If YouTube gains no profit, a subscription charge (or similar) will need to be introduced to regular users. If staff cannot be paid for their services, and YouTube partners cannot be paid, YouTube will no longer be able to provide a service to users without charge. HiddenRainful is correct, you are selfish.

  • @TheDarkAngel1704 Oh, that's not likely. Very, very few people surpass my intelligence. In any case, you proposed a false dichotomy. It's not "either advertising or subscription charge." It's advertising in a variety of forms, of which I've only specified objection to one, or a subscription charge, or donations, or something that none of us has considered. The fact is, as long as advertising is an accepted means of receiving funds, no one will look for a better solution.

  • @Antifides

    All I have in response to that, is the following;

    Keep dreaming.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheDarkAngel1704 Freaking Youtube marking messages as spam and not telling the poster about it. Another reason not to do anything for them.

As I said but you probably didn't see:

I will, because it's the big ideas that change the world, not the small-minded ruminations of complacent fools.

  • @HiddenRainful I want Youtube to make a more ethical decision, and until they do, they won't be getting anything from me.

  • If we were all you use fire fox/chrome don't you think companies would take heed of what people are doing and start putting advertisement on there.

So in retrospect it’s a good idea not to tell people that fire fox/chrome don’t have adverts.

  • @peaka567 I'm pretty sure that Google, which owns both Youtube and Chrome, is well aware.

  • @HiddenRainful And yet the last time I made an analogy, you understood. Odd that. It's almost like the entire point of your posts are to draw out a disagreement. Have you considered living under a bridge and charging people for crossing it?

  • @HiddenRainful Hah, nice, you think you're the arbiter of morality. In that case, I'll be the arbiter of morality: please stop letting Youtube kill people.

  • Dara is a pure legend

  • @HiddenRainful Let me show you how polite you are.

    Please stop living.

See, I asked politely, "seen"[sic] as I have a sense of morality. I'm not sure what morality has to do with politeness, though.

  • @HiddenRainful I am not subject to your ideals. Since you want to impose them on me, you can adopt mine instead: start using ad-blocker or stop using Youtube,

  • @HiddenRainful I wouldn't visit Youtube if I had to watch ads. Perhaps they should come up with a different system.

Besides, that's only a problem if the advertisers pay less because people block the ads.

  • hahaha this is great because i had just watched the episode were Stephen gave him points for that fact!!

  • @HiddenRainful Youtube was up for a long time without ads that are as intrusive as they are now.

Besides, I don't think people care for ethics on the internet much nowadays.

  • @Krazed2Kraze YouTube was a loss-making enterprise for most of its early years. Just saying.

  • i thought the triplee point of water was 273.16K...

  • @Caluma122 both are right, measuring in kelvin is just a different way of doing it

  • @mcpartridge Yeah i know i'm just joking

  • love this bit

  • There's no apostrophe between the 'O' and the 'Briain' in his name, some Irish personalities, such as Peter O'Toole chose to use it, but even Daras' own website spells it precisely the way it is spelt here.

There's a whole wealth of ways that people have chosen to spell his name, simply because he is Irish, adding accents over the 'O', inserted apostrophes etc, but I think the last say should really be his own.

  • It's very close to zero and the pressure is different.

Water's state of matter is determined by temperature and pressure.

  • proud to be irish

  • i love stephen fry and everyhing but he annoys me here cos he acts like he knows this when he clearly didnt

  • @buffaloface1 He doesn't know everything. He knows damn near everything, but not quite everything lol.

  • This is what Dara's typing translates to:

    "DGHSNLYG\LSUFGHUDHGLSIDHGURHGO8RYOTE5OUTY85YT45O8UY04I56406IUPOTY9YJCBKNVB9SRYTO3IYTOW8FYOE8YTWHYRC9F7YRGF8O3U4YLTFOE79F974YT976HT9YT98W6THP074YTUIRYHGFJ"

  • @WebCamCartmell, you forgot the exclamation mark.

  • lool 0.01!! they took points off for that! :D

  • This video has 32 dislikes. Why? People are very strange sometimes.

  • repeat 9 :D

  • dara's our best comedian

  • Thumbs down for advert. BBCWorldwide? There should NO ads! For shame!

  • He got POINTS for that?!

  • shite advert and seen this clip ages ago ...so why bother?..plus only morons pay for tv..or watch sky

  • @couthyband so you watch things the 21st century way....on a laptop/computer. you sir, are the moron

  • I think the more important question is why does the BBC only put up 240p videos, while the ripped off versions are all available in at least 360p?

  • gg the bbc can't even spell his name

  • @z3r0t0l3r4ns They have spelled it correctly. They just used a latin O in his name.

  • Why do BBC clips have adverts?

  • It's Briain!!!

  • ARGHHH King Arther no one cares that your broadband 'fiendishly' complicated!!

  • ahaha pure ambushed him lol

  • Awesome guy

  • this is so true because i just watched the other video where he says this and there was abbout 50 comments saying that its 1.01 :L love the typing at the end :L love dara <3 hilarious

  • Dara looked so happy 7 seconds in D:

  • Just sprayed a mouth full of coffee all over my computer screen at work seeing Dara's angry typing....

  • ''I'm not letting that fecker get away with that'' hahah

  • Dara's awesome

  • Firefox x64 (minefield) 4.02 alpha 12

    adblock plus and no script

    Linux Ubuntu 11.04 beta 7

    sweet pickings ;)

  • You noobs need stop complaining and learn how to internet:

    1: Download Firefox or Chrome

    2: Download AdBlock Plus

3: Never have to watch/see an advert on the internet ever again

    4: ???

    5: Profit.

  • @SuperSwifte

I see we are of the same mind. Now if I just figure out that damned fourth step.....

  • @SuperSwifte IE noobs.

  • @SuperSwifte "Learn how to internet" LOL wtf?

  • @SuperSwifte your my new favourite person in the world thank you so much

  • @SuperSwifte To paraphrase Stephen Fry, "...and I use the word "Profit" quite wrongly."

  • @SuperSwifte ah yes, the classic

  • @SuperSwifte I have FireFox and STILL have adverts. Explain.

  • @mattissotrendy adblock plus..?

  • HE GOT POINTS FOR THAT! *angry typing*

  • i will make a point NOT TO BUY ANYTHING that is ADVERTISED before a clip

  • im getting pissed off with this king arthur now

  • Keep pushing 9.

  • I thought BBC didnt advertise...bastards.

  • @bigbingham the adverts are from youtube and have nothing to do with the BBC

  • @angel102ify

The producers of the video will recieve a premium for every view of the ad. The BBC agree to advertise on their videos.....thus the BBC are bastards.

  • @bigbingham Even if they do get a percentge, which i doubt, the vast vast majority of it goes to youtube to pay for the servers we all use, you think the internet is free to run? Really? tell you what, you set up a server farm in your house which will cover 0.000001% of youtubes total users and see how much money you have at the end of the month, and calling them bastards for providing FREE content. Yes thats right, you might get an advert but you dont have to pay a penny.now whos the bastard?

  • @angel102ify ....the BBC i dont give a shit how much the BBC get. I pay a TV licence dont i so they can piss right off. Fine, advertise, border advertisements ok...but not compulsory prevideo adverts. They piss everyone off and will what make youtube fail in the end anyway. Granted it may cost a lot to run, but in the long run it will cost more youtubers to piss off to Google video.

  • Comment removed

  • @bigbingham /facepalm

you know who owns youtube dont you?

    *ninja edit because im tired

  • @bigbingham and actually no, the TV licence does not cover items on youtube at all, never has and never will, the iplayer yes, but thats it as far as the internet goes and i dont remember seeing any adverts on that, have you?

do i hate adverts? yes they annoy me as well

do i understand that companies NEED adverts to pay for the services they provide? YES,

jesus, grow up and learn something about modern economics.....

  • @bigbingham oh and btw since you seem to think google video will take over maybe you should know that google is shutting down google videos themselves because it cant compete with youtube, since you seem to have such a problem with it i suggest you starting looking for alternatives now before its too late...

  • @bigbingham google video is shutting down.

  • i love dara o brien too much

  • @dubbadub100 not THAT much if you can't spell his name :D

  • You spelt his surname wrong? :)

  • nice come-back by Dara

  • fuck you brush foundation, I want steven fry.

  • Always tell if Fry fakes his laugh...

  • It's water, get over it.

  • @mrgringo22 In their defense, it is quiet a hard surname to get right, unless your Irish, or informed

  • @SwindleMonkey No. There is no excuse to justify this atrocity!

I'm actually surprised no-one has highlighted the irony of me highlighting a mistake when I, myself, made a mistake in highlighting a mistake. So fuck it, I'll highlight it myself: "Cleary?!" *coughs* CLEARLY! Ah. That was cathartic.

I'm afraid you're guilty, too, Swindle: *quite ;P

  • @mrgringo22 That's the correct spelling dumbass.

  • @mrgringo22 yeah what are you talking about you BELLEND!

  • @mrgringo22 They didn't spell it wrong, it's Briain :p

  • @mrgringo22 lol.. they didn't spell it wrong..

  • @elliexx242 Ah, it seems they have since corrected it. They originally spelt his surname 'Ó Brien'.

And for those who have lambasted me for my comment, ask yourselves why has it received so many likes.

    TBYT.

  • @mrgringo22 ahh fair enough, sorry (:

  • @mrgringo22 haha life's a bitch =P

  • @mrgringo22 They haven't...that's how It's spelt on Dara's DVD, unless his spelling his own name wrong ofcourse.

  • @johnboy92 They left out the fada, but it's better than it's usually spelt

  • @mrgringo22 They tend to do that quite a lot, I remember a while ago I saw a Jeremy Clarkson programme and he was talking to a bunch of different F1 drivers. They somehow managed to spell Rubens Barrichello's name as something like 'Reubens Barichelo'

  • @mrgringo22 That's how his name is spelt, clearly you are a fecker....?

  • Comment removed

  • @mrgringo22 yeah just to back up others, they haven't mispelt Dara's surname, it is "Briain". Just with a " ' " between the O and Briain lol. Sorry if I am wrong, and you meant something else, but 171 thumbs up cannot be accepted here lol.

  • @mrgringo22 How should it be spelt?

  • @Sailorsega With an apostrophe between the 'O' and the 'Briain' :P

  • @mrgringo22 Are you sure?

  • @mrgringo22 No they haven't. It's his irish surname.
