James Cemeron should have extended credit to Harlan Ellison and should now extend credit to Roger Dean. Avatar was one of the most boring pieces of film I've seen in years and would have nothing going for it if it wasn't for the Roger Dean look.
I couldn't agree more. I was so sad and confused watching it because I truly appreciated the 'one with the earth' concept and enjoyed the effects BUT WAS BORED AS HELL because of the WEAK STORY & GENERIC PLOT! The 'so called' HERO SUCKED. I had NO sympathy for him and then I was pissed that he completely rippied off ROGER DEAN with no credit.
Fuck people are so close-minded these days. Avatar was completely different to this, in fact, floating land masses have been a popular art subject for a very long time, adopted by many people.
On top of that, must everyone be a conformist and put the film down? The story was fantastic if you paid attention to it, and the main character was a fine actor, it's not like he had to give an oscar performance. The only issue i had was the score. The score was weak.
As we all know by now, James Cameron took the look and designs (right down to the animals, floating mountains and wooded lands) from Roger Dean's art for Avatar, but "forgot" to give him credit. Dean's work is stellar!
Gotta love this! I'm not even familiar with which Roger Dean this is from. O yeah, If ya haven't seen what Histria has done with the Ancient & Ritual excerpts, I think you'd enjoy them. My guess is that he's a french dude living in Russia now. Whatever the case is, there's a whirlwind of creativity spinnin there!

Absolutely! I think there needs to be a DEAN rally his support at the Kodak Theater Hollywood during the Awards

The least James Cameron can do is to thank Roger Dean when he receives the Oscar. Loved Avatar though :-)
