@gungadin36 If the lights are faded anyways, who cares? I sanded my lights, and a year later they still look new. There's no other true way to remove the oxidation. You can always throw wax on them to keep them from ever fading again. Then again, how good is the OEM UV coating when there are cars from 2005-2006 driving around with cloudy headights?

@gungadin36 the reason your headlights turn yellow is because the UV layer failed. you need to remove the UV layer and the oxidixed headlight layer off by sanding polishing doesnt cut it because it just isnt abrasive enough.

@zjumps33 And who or what puts the UV layer back on? Without a UV layer we are back at square one in a short time - Give me back the replaceable glass headlamps, where the whole lens and bulbs went together - they can keep the plastic crap.

@gungadin36 sealant works as a UV protectant and so does wax. improper care of the headlight caused it to fail. that is why when you fix it with wetsanding and polishing you MUST put a sealant back on with a coat of wax. proper care of the headlights would of not caused it to turn yellow in the first place. you have to keep it waxed or apply sealant on it every few months.

@sfuchs wax will work but there are sealants made specifically for plastics or car paint. an example would be JetSeal from Chemical Guys, Gariots One Step Sealant, Meguairs M21 synthetic sealant. they pretty much just protect paint or plastic from oxidation and UV damage for about a year. the best protection is always keeping headlights clean from industrial fall out and waxing every few months to avoid using specifically made sealants for protection.

@sfuchs i use jet seal just cause i like chemical guys products. people will argue their sealant isnt as good as others but i havent been able to test multiple sealants yet so i cannot say for sure but it is expensive.

Look if you put brake fluid on a car with dead paint it will look good for a few days same with fogged up head lites....the best and easiest way to get your headlight lenses looking like new is soft scrub and a soft t shirt....wipe in circular motion then use some windex to clean it off put a coat of car wax on the lense and you are done five minutes...... 2.00 bucks
