His dad died in the war, so he grew up without knowing his father and this album/movie is a way he was able to express his feelings about it (which led up to the final cut). You are right though, some of it is about Syd, but it isnt solely about him. roger had also gone through a painful divorce in 75, so the scenes of him losing his wife are loosely based on that.
@HabboMafiaRpg He wore the mask because during the time everyone one was being repressed and they wanted everyone to be the same so mask was meaning that all looked the same. And during the part the kids were put through the meat grinder it was everyone you looked the same would end out the same.

i first saw this movie when i was 11 and i thought it was the weirdest movie in the world but when i watched again 6 months later i bought on dvd like a week later, wtf?
Watching this movie sober is definitely a less exciting experience. But when you've seen it like 100 times, it makes perfect sense. It's all abstract metaphors. Look at 4:00. Pink is watching WWII on TV. The same war his dad died in. His dad dying and leaving him with his overprotective mother is what fucked him up in the first place. And at 4:00, it shows him as a small child running toward a giant H. H? H for heroine, son.
But there's only one H. And plus, if you notice the scene where he takes out his big rock of heroin, it immediately cuts to him running toward the H as a child

This movie is talking about how much pain and anger was in their lives, and how he was sheltered from everything, and the world, shown as the judge, was punishing him by making him exposed. It's all in code and they wanted you to sit down and figure out what they were talking about. If you listen to the guitar and the singer, there is so much pain and anger there. @tornadomad the actual songs themselves aren't just about 100% drugs DUMBASS. but if you've just watch the movie than you get the sense that it is. drugs, alcohol, and sex are all part of the after effects of pink (in the movie) burnt out performer. half the songs on the album are about the death of roger water's father and its repercussions, major depression, and despair, while also losing one's mind as a nod to pink floyd founder syd barrett.

Still, it would be foolish to say Pink Floyd didn't take drugs, most bands do when they're in the process of realisation and discovery of self-conscience.

Watching this movie sober is definitely a less exciting experience. But when you've seen it like 100 times, it makes perfect sense. It's all abstract metaphors. Look at 4:00. Pink is watching WWII on TV. The same war his dad died in. His dad dying and leaving him with his overprotective mother is what fucked him up in the first place. And at 4:00, it shows him as a small child running toward a giant H. H? H for heroine, son.
