  • without engine sounds, it is not so interesting.

  • Thank you

    Mr fly4fun♪\^▽^/

    My Hundol name

    PenisB29 Facebomber

  • The plane was so sealed with aluminum that the engines could not be cooled efficiently, This became a huge problem, but there was a reason why I just learned. If you can get a good view of the B 29 from the rear, you will see how different it was from the 17. They trained long before Hiroshima to bank hard left and slightly down after dropping the A bombs for a very specific reason besides the actual blast.

  • I was just informed by one of the original designers of the B 29 it had more secrecy to it than commonly realized. He told me this plane was built as a ferral cage with the origional intent to survive an EMP. No other airplane in the world at that time could have dropped the Nukes on Japan and survived. 17 had glass turrets, if it could have lifted bomb would have been disabled by the elect magnetic pulse. 29 had alumin turrets, is sealed completely from the rear deflecting the EMP. They Knew!

  • cool film, thanks!

  • Too bad about the engine problems; first combat mission over Japan 15 June 1944. "Hobo Queen" in the UK in 1944 as well. I'd wonder what it would have been like to have had about four or five USAAF bases in North Africa sending about a hundred planes each with hundreds of P-51 Fighters for escort over Germany at the time. My B-17-G-42-97217 (JW-L) would have greatly have appreciated the assistance there.

  • My Grandfather worked on B-29s. He was a mechanic so he didn't fly em, but I don't think he would want to. According to him the engines often caught fire after overheating, and that was a big problem.

  • @Trashcansam123 yeah from what i know it kinda was one way flight.

  • It's good to see "FIFI" back in the air on the airshow circuit with her new hybrid engines.

  • excellent video... I'm sure your dad loved it. Great video!

  • This is great. My grandfather, Maj. Gen Haywood "Possum" Hansell, flew the first squadron of B-29s into the newly built landing strip on Saipan. From there he commanded the squadrons of B-29s that dropped bombs on Japan. Unfortunately he used his tactics of strategic bombing that worked in Europe (eventually) but failed over Japan. High altitude daylight bombing did not work over Japan due to the extreme jet stream conditions. So Gen LeMay was brought in to fire bomb Japan and that worked.

  • Good vid, thanks

  • Great memorial video. Best wishes to your Dad.

  • i want my dieing wish to be able to fly in one of these planes

  • That is quite a peace of history there..

  • hard to believe theres just one left, after all that were made, good for your dad

  • AWESOME VIDEO! I wish your Dad well and many many years ahead!

Youre a good son! Music was PERFECT!

  • I always had eyes for the Lancaster, Spitfire, Mustang. But wow i would of been a kid in a candy store to see that ... there's only 2 Lancasters flying in the world today and the city next to me has the Canadian model She flys over head now and then and you can tell just by her engines I would love to see 2 of the best bombers fly over one day

  • I ALWAYS get a kick out of this video! Good music and great plane.

  • i want to see a video of wht it looked like switching turrets, and seeing wht other gunners were seeing when they were flying in these great machines, it wud be awesome to see a great view of the interior

  • Fantasic footage and the right music for a superb machine!

  • what a great experience, I went for a ride on June 3rd at the Reading PA. WWII weekend.

It is great to see this airplane fly and even better to experience it in the air!

  • I have seen this plane fly here in Kalamazoo, MI Great video, thanks

  • Yay, a B-29 ''Superfortress''!

  • Too bad hundred of B-29s were used for target practice at China lake. It would have been nice to have a couple more B-29s restored to flying condition.

  • what a beautiful plane...

  • They are still a marval

  • What a wonderful video and great retirement gift for your dad. I grew up watching 12 O'Clock High on t.v. with Robert Lansing, which was of course B-17s, but was always interested in its bigger offspring, the Super Fortress. Some people may not know but the B-29 was the biggest project of WWII--yes, even eclipsing the amount spent on the Manhattan Project. Fans of this bird should order Building the B-29 by Jacob Vander Muelen, published in 1995.

  • For those young people that don't know, the music is Glenn Miller...."A String Of Pearls" and "In The Mood". My two favorites of the Big Band era!

  • that is really so very cool

  • Amazing video and totally appropriate music! Where would we be without this mighty plane and the brave men that flew and fought her hard?

  • This plane is coming to WWII Weekend this year!!

  • they are so small!

  • Cool video...thanks for posting!

  • hey whats up man im sitting here w/ my grandpa and he wanted to know if there was anyway he could download this video he flew a b-29 too and loved this video thanx

  • was just up in seattle/everett in jan, nice to see such a beautiful piston prop in a couple places still fresh in my mind. this is the only Boeing B-29 in service (unless a private collector has one stashed away) but there are a few variants of the original b-29, like a russian RE'd Tupolev Tu-4 still in the air today

  • @Amt916 it's just Seattle or just Everett since there are 3 or 4 towns in between both Seattle and everett.

  • Mannn If i had any kind of warbird?

Id want your Dad to fly it.

he's really something. and sooo down to earth.

  • AWESOME VIDEO THX !!

  • wow. i thought the last one in existence was the one that dropped the bomb over japan

  • Perfect Choice of music for this video.

  • What a fantastic video! Its so great to see veteran pilots back in their rides after all the years that went by! What a beautiful plane the B-29 is, Its so great that this one is still flying and honoring all who flew in them! Wonderful!

  • かっこいいなぁ

  • Is this the City of Everett @ 3:45?! Your Dad Must have been a good pilot if they allowed him to fly this piece of aviation history...

  • beautiful plane,

  • Iv'e seen the plane fly over my boat when i'm on lake Michigan, it's pretty sweet.

  • Man, with your dad flying I doubt any of the passengers would spill there drinks! Smooth as glass!!! Top rate video! Thanks for sharing!! Loved the props at 2:42

  • God bless you mr wien. thank you for taking that old girl up, and letting her flex her muscles, and fly again. thank you. hopefully one day ill be as lucky as you sir. thank you.

    Aaron

  • What makes me so proud living in Richardson, Tx is that this plane is now officially in Addison Air Museum. I saw "FiFi" at the Alliance Airshow last October and they just got I think 3 million dollars to restore to flying condition from the air museum I just mentioned. Therefore for all those flight enthusiasts for just 7 to 8 bucks you can check this bird out among many others - so come to Dallas :)

  • Impressive airplane...At least the Japanese thought so...

  • es un precioso video de ver el vuelo de un bombardero de la II guerra , es fantastico, y si a esto se agrega un fondo musical de glen miller es doblemente fantastico. mis saludos.

  • Super vid and what a fantastic retirement flight for your dad. How is he these days ? Many thanks for your great site. Regards.

  • @mastermime67 they would scream like they saw Godzilla

  • what would hapen if you flew that thing over Hiroshima or Nagasaki?

  • @mastermime67 Excellent idea,they would love it.

  • I grew up in Oshkosh and have seen these warbirds my whole life. Nothing like the sound of those good old radial engines. The EAA is the event of the year when you grow up in that town. you can literally feel the history on some of those old birds.

  • Wonderful video. And music. It fits quite well. Greetings from Scandinavia.

  • Great work you guys do keeping her in the air. Hope to see her at Oshkosh next year.

  • Grande mitico....

  • hopefully it does not drop the atomic bomb

  • The sky will seem very empty without her!

  • Im a big fan of your website , can you tell me a bit about your fathers flight background?

  • Nice video! Gave it a thumbs up... currently working on my private pilots license :)

  • If only the Kee-Bird survived , there would be 2 on these wonderful planes flying.

  • @kunatracing that and the dauntless dotty. then we'd have 3.

  • Great footage, shame any possible engine sounds ruined by the music

  • Wery nice!

  • Congratulations to your dad! What a great send off into retirement! Love the choice of music to accompany the great footage - String of Pearls and In the Mood are my two favorite Miller songs!

  • Fantastic video footage! Thanks so much!

  • Great to have a B-29 in the air again, at least we saved one!

My grandpa was a crew chief on one of these during Korea,

sadly, the plane he worked on met her fate out on China Lake we're prettymuch certain; getting shot up as target practice like so many others.

  • A true sheet metal marvel!

  • Sorry, how many planes like this exist today in flight conditions?

    thanks...

  • @richardobeto This is the last one that's flying. It's been the only one flying for the past 30+ years.

  • @fly4fun HOLY SHIT! The last ones were retired in 1960 and that's the last one flying?!?

  • @fly4fun why that? there are several B-17 still flying today.

  • @fly4fun Are you sure about that? Unless I saw the exact same plane that's in the video, there is a small airfield in Connecticut that has one and flies it every now and then.

  • @fly4fun the kee bird would have joined her in the skys but we know how that turned out

  • @balongaboy yeah most unfortunate.

  • @fly4fun can it get to 30,000 feet?

  • There are several other flight-worthy airframes still though. Although they'll never take it out, Bockscar is probably in the best condition at this point.

  • United States Army Air Force Victory in the Pacific 1941 - 1945 could not have been possible without the Glorious B-29 Superfortress and its Fire-Bombing Raids over Japan that brought the Imperial Japanese Empire to its knees!

God Bless the B-29 Superfortress! Fifi, Enola Gay and BocksCar that dropped Little Boy and Fat Man and all the others now part of our Glorious History of Western Arms against the Struggle with the East.

God Bless the United States of America!

  • @richardobeto one

  • Wow..splendid airplane

    Thank you

  • Fantastic! How many years did Captain Wien fly? What other types did he pilot? What airline was he with? Great ending to a great career!

  • Very, very cool.

  • What an amazing video, great footage with great music. No doubt this video has a lot of sentimental meaning to you and your family - but for a first video, this is truly an epic, in fact by any standards its an epic. And getting to take video footage from a Texan must have been a thrill in itself! Well done mate. Thumbs up etc...

  • @Hanglands topic: If you continue editing try unlinking the video and audio and let the audio fade out and trail after the video transition. That way you never get a choppy audio cut. I'm envious as heck at the entire subject too btw. :) Well orchestrated video and beautiful subject.

  • beauiful old lady...

  • no sound in flight? The radials are the only sensation!

  • Saw the FIFI when it was in Kansas City years ago. Unless you get close to her you don't know how big she is. Amazing!

  • such big propeler's

  • STUNNING AIRCRAFT!!!

  • Great video!

  • The CAF are now offering rides in FiFi for the first time ever. For schedule and pricing check out their site shown in the description for this video.

  • @fly4fun well I know were I am going on vacation next year if you can get a ride on the plane, now I all got to do is sweet talk the wife into letting me go :-)

  • @fly4fun GOD i hope so. ive ridden in aluminum overcast ( b17 this is the creme of the crop here for ww2 stuff imho

  • funny

  • All I can say is COOL!!...wicked..wicked COOL!!!

  • I'd bet alot of modern pilots would chuck in a leg if they could trade their letterboxes for window area like that :)

  • Does this plane still fly

  • @sneezabonk As of just last month (August, 2010) it's back in the air with 4 new engines that are easier to find parts for and run cooler. So yes! It does. See it on tour next year.

  • @fly4fun Super.

So what's the new power plant? A different Wright Cyclone type?

  • @fly4fun

When you say new engines, are these a different type that was used when these planes were in active service or something modern? I hope it didn't lose it's signature sound, I've seen this one leave Holman in St Paul once...waited several hrs in the car entertained by fighters buzzing us as they left while we waited for the 29's turn.

  • @sneezabonk She will be flying to Oshkosh Wisconsin for the EAA air show in July....last time she was there was 1995...

  • Congrats for the video. Love to see those birds still in the air

  • Hope your Father is still doing well> God bless the brave men who flew these B-29 to help win the war. Thank you to the men who keep this B-29 flying .

  • Very very nice vid!!

  • fifi was based in my home town in midland tx

  • I think we should rebuild every world war 2 plane keep some good numbers around.

  • Going to see FiFi Sept. 18 at Wings Over Whiteman airshow. Needless to say, I am totally thrilled. The B-29 is one of the best airplanes that ever graced the skies. I just hope they park it on the tarmac before and after the flyover so I can photograph it from every angle.

  • what airport is it ??

  • @josacervantes The retirement flight was in Everett, WA, but there are a few scenes in there shot from the cockpit that was actually taken during a flight at Renton, WA.

  • Congrats on your Dads retirement, and Super Video. Imagine also seeing the fighter that was designed to escort the B-29s, the Twin Mustang. Seeing this fly with several P-82s would be a trip that's for sure. Thanks for Posting, Good Job. Don

  • Why retire such a great flying machine! Great video dude, music was very appropriate.

  • アメリカでは英雄的な存在なんだろうけど、リトルボーイを使った人類の汚点も背負ってるんだよね。日本人はこれ見ていい気はしないんですよ。

  • What a gorgeous sight...

and what a great 'last call' for your dad..

  • VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is when America could MAKE anything and it was the best in the world!! I worked for Boeing in the 1960's and we still made the best planes in the air. Now??? How sad for the kids just starting out in the the world.

  • turned 65 yesterday that Hiroshima was bombed. Day 09 is nagasaki. These planes are wonderful, but they remind me of death.

  • very good!

  • Loving the Glen Miller music! Excellent video!

  • Is that Everett Paine Field, WA?

  • legend plane , very nice

  • this was very emocional for me!! thanks for sharing your Dad´s flight!! was beautiful and i love this baby too(b-29) your father looks very alive and still a Major Pilot!! at that time everything was manually!! not like today that the plane do every single manuver automatic even landing if the pilot wants--great pilots at that time

  • Wow! have not seen fifi since i was a kid when she used to fly at the CAF airshow in Harlingen, Tx.

  • Love the sound of those American made WW11 engines!

  • awesome..

  • What great footage. Thanks for sharing!

  • You doing a great job guys! Don't scratch this monster ;)

  • For everyone who wants to know... FIFI has been in repair for several years now, and is being hangared at the National CAF Headquarters in Midland, Texas "KMAF" but she is going to fly at the 2010 Fina CAF "Airsho" in Midland, Texas on October 9&10, 2010! For those who wish to fly to the event it is held at Midland international Airport KMAF, and GA Parking will be at the FBO "Avion"

  • Art needs any words, It's in spectatarors ears and eyes. Thanks's for great video.

  • Great footage. It was really nice that this was doen for your dad. I got to see FIFI at Westesoer AFB with my dad. when we went to the airshow. I am sure glad they had her there. MY dad loved it!

  • Only two airworthy remaining, DOC has not flown yet, maybe someday soon, it is in the works.

  • Such a beautiful aircraft! Anyone who gets to fly it is one lucky bastard!

  • see alive B-29 is good

  • Great footage. Wow, that B-29 is beautiful. What was the chase plane?

  • @danf321 It was a T-6 with a retractable rear window, which made it perfect for video and stills, especially since you could sit backwards.

  • Everything was perfect for that flight. The music fits the time period, the plane fit the music and it was edited wonderfully. And the Arches at the end made it all come together. damn fine job and to the the men I don't know, thanks for the service!!!

  • That beats a gold Rolex anyday!

  • How many B29's are there left? I thought all that effort that went into rescuing "Kee Bird" was because it was the last?

  • Nádhera.. Škoda,že tato letadla byla smrtonosná....

  • lucky man! did you ride in it with him also?

  • cant wait until FIFI makes its new maiden flight by june 1st.

  • Better'n sex to me! MURRS!

  • Awesome! I´d love to fly in it.

They should take paying customers for a spin! :) If they ever do, let me know.

  • that plane is just.......sexy.

  • Gorgeous plane. Too bad there aren't more around to enjoy.

  • do they have stil original B29 's?! if its right, COOL

  • wow the plane that bombed japan with 2 atomic bomb(stop saying its B17 ive read a veteran's journal which was published after found in action by another vet it said it was the B29s

  • Thank you!

  • @Messer1941 From the description of the video: The first song is "String of Pearls" and the second song is "In the Mood." Both are by Glenn Miller.

  • @fly4fun Great video bro! I loved everything about it. The music was great, the plane's a beauty. I'd say my dad's cooler than yours but right now, your dad's the coolest!

  • @fly4fun These are NOT the original Glenn Miller RCA Victor recordings! At best, they're the Miller band from a much later (post 1958) date. Also, I would rather have heard more of those beautiful rumble of those engines instead of the music!

  • @southwriter Yeah, but the sound coming from the formation flight was just a bunch of wind noise. I'd have had to go all 'Hollywood' and manufacture some B-29 audio, which wasn't really possible. The interior shots of a B-29 sound like a tractor. Someday I'll upload more from inside the airplane.

  • What is name first song?

  • This brings back memories of watching this great ship fly at the EAA in Oshkosh, WI. I loved watching those huge radials come to life and roar as she rolled by on the taxiway! Her take off was awesome to behold. H

  • I?d give up Sex, to Fly in that Beauty.

  • watch out Japan, Little Boy is coming to a town near you.

  • This video is mesmerizing. Glenn Miller is just the added treat.

  • Very, very nice! Thanks for not putting any "rapp crap" music to this vid!... Pops was "cheesin" big time! Happy Days!

  • If I may say, the Glenn Miller sound was very fitting for this video. The sound of the era. To this day, I still love his music.

I bet your father was in his glory too. Happy retirement Dad.

  • Fortunately, Hitler was too stupid to mass produce the ME 262, which would not have seen the B 29 as it was too busy getting strafed and ambushed by P 51s.

  • All the viewers of YouTube are sharing the congratulation of this retirement day. What a good show that is !!

Happy feelings here from France, an aviation enthousiast for decades...

Of course I know Fifi !

(On my YT page, a dedication to some good tasted early 70's and late 60's real pop singing...)

  • I'd like to see her together with a fully-armed Me-262 ...

  • the 262 cruised at 550 knots, and could rev up to 600+, the b-29 was pretty slow ,all 14 of the 0.50 guns stood little chance of hitting a 262 and if the 262 hit the super fort with the nose cannon, that was not a good thing

  • bes t bomer of its time..and still it is kinda

  • Well I thought the music was fitting. Kudos.

  • Thank you for this fantastic video. What a beautiful plane.

  • What a beautiful girl!

  • Did FiFi get her new engines? Anyone know?

  • she has gotten a few but not all yet, they are very expensive and hard to find.

  • I was fortunate to get a walk thru tour of FiFi at a local air show several years ago. A magnificent aircraft!!
