I just read that the mixing changers like the RC121 only had a separate manual off/on switch because the changer had no force limiters and would break if you grabbed the arm while it was busy. I had always thought it was some some special "feature" that was just dropped to save money. Good luck getting the last-record cycle to work. The rest of the restoration looks great.
@lrd9999 Hi and thanks for your comments. You are indeed correct that the manual on/off was indeed for for that purpose. I now have the last cycle working and is as smooth as silk! I should post an update with better vision. Cheers...
Garrards seem to vary a lot in cleanliness of design. I just revived a glued up "62"; looks solid on top, but the works are a sloppy tug-of-war between 3 or 4 springs and levers; it's hard to imagine that it ever worked right. Everything but the final shutoff works now. My 55B, on the other hand, just works; if it ever had a problem, it looks as if it would be a joy to fix.
Looks awesome... sounds wonderful... great restoration. Isn't it a feeling of accomplishment? Hey I'm wondering: was Susan Maughan bigtime there? And if so... do you have any of her???? She's spectacular... I need to hear more of her!
@75capriceconvertible I only have the 'Bobby's Girl' hit, other than that she wasn't well received on the radio here in Oz. However, on YOUR recommendation, I must check her out as our music styles are similar! thanks...
@tubeie07 Yes, I love the way Susan does Bobby's Girl. I have the movie Two Left Feet with Nyree Dawn Porter and Michael Crawford... Susan Maughan is in the background doing a song called 'Where Were You When I Needed You' and I wish I could find it!! She is a beautiful woman not to mention a very gifted singer!
I have an original RC121, 'original' in really great authentic condition (just a small tear in fabic]. It also is with two cartridge heads. It has the original product details stapled at back and a buyers instructional catologue. It really is an amazing stereogram and it plays my [cleaned] 78's beautifully.
Thanks very much for creating the clip and well done for your restoration. I own an interesting 'thin line' 'fold out' 60's transister model Stereogram downstairs also...great for 'lounge music. I will post some clips soon.
My Dad was given one like this for his 21st birthday. It was the 25 anniversary model and the facia was gold plated. It was still in showroom condition, but unfortunately it got burn't in a house fire. I own a later model Kriesler Multi-Sonic ,all valve unit. The 'valve sound' is the best!!!
That's fascinating, I didn't know there was a 'gold plated' model. I know this model came in Rosewood (this one), teak (of which I am yet to restore) and a blond-teak (a kind of yellow look teak finish). There is another model that came after this one but only a few were made. It has the same components, but a 'slightly ' different look and updated Garrard TT. Thanks for your comment... :)
Yep, I know the TV model exactly - around the same vintage. I buggered up the 'slow-closing' lid as it wasn't working at all when I got it and proceeded to oil it free & in the process I must have stuffed it up. I have just purchased another one of these models (this time in teak) and the lid does 'slowly-close!' - cool! Only one more to get, in 'Pine', then I'll have all three production colours, glutton for punishment I guess :) Thanks for the comment!
Yes, it the TT is of the same vintage. Garrard had a number of 'shift-drop' & spindle drop TTs out at the same time. Chromebumpers TT is a more up-market version. I have another Garrard which is the manual operation only of his TT. Very nice. Thanks for the comment!
hello I have a gerard that had a simular problem the spring in the record size selector needed to be replaced that looks like the same problem so it might be the spring
The singer is country artist from the 50's & 60's George Hamilton IV - the song is 'Why Don't They Understand'. He recorded for ABC, Colonial and RCA Victor labels. W&G was a local Australian label that distributed ABC America recordings, it stood for 'White & Gillespie', the first OZ pressing plant for microgroove records. Their main output was local acts & a few overseas distributions!
greetings from so cal, where it's about to pour...i can't hear your record cuz i've been listening to kfxm(an oldies station)and turned down its volume, and yours--these blasted computers!!1

Yes, I think the speakers chosen and the AMP match up quite well for it's time (2x8" paper cones only!)
