  • I have this album it was the 2nd Clannad album I bought After seeing them Live at the 1st Leeds Irish Folk Festival at Temple Newsome park in 1981, I remember chatting to Maire Brennan in the Beer tent whilst listening to a Jam session taking place, It was an Awesome festival with All the Big Names of Irish Music playing Moving Hearts Dedannan, Mary Black, Furey's & Clannad, Also an Irish Dance Group called Clann-Na Gaelfrom Newcastle, Does anyone know what happened to them?

  • The song translation from Gaelic is great. I

  • One of the most beautiful songs of all times and places

  • It's true. To be able to sing this song, I've decided to study Gaelic.

  • Ditto.

But because of my ancestory: Scottish Gaelic.

  • oh ireland oh ireland how I whish to visit you soon. *snif*

  • I always thought that Argyle and the western isles and Ireland were settled by the Gaels around the same time... they lived in co-existance with the pictish people who were there before. there's no real proof that the Scotti invaded Scotland but that they were always there....it was because of pictish marriage customs that pictish names were replaced with Scottish ones...hence it seemed like an invasion....who knows really I wasn't there at the time :)....

  • they must have rerecorded it for magical ring ... singing is clearer on that album...still love this song...it sounds so Hebridean.

  • Ah I nearly thought it was Scottish Gaelic at first due to the spelling of words but it is actually older Irish that which came before the spelling reformation and the introduction of the Official Standard. What used to be "Foghmhair" is now "Fómhair" for autumn.

  • Must have been the lyrics I used as in the title it is Fhómair

  • @Lunoma I've seen them live, some of the songs are sang in Scottish and some in Irish (and English) but you were not far wrong...

  • Gaelige and Gaidhlig are both beautiful, lol! So is Gaelg(Manx Gaelic)!A hell all the Celtic languages are beautiful and very ancient!

  • Gaelige is one of the world's most beautiful languages!

  • I would say Gaidhlig is... ;)

  • Well actually Scottish Gaelic came from Irish Gaelic cos of the invasion of Scotland by the Gaels. I do like Scottish Gaelic but I prefer Irish cos I'm Irish and I think it's much softer sounding.

  • invasion?

  • yes the Gaelic invasion of Scotland. The people before them were mainly the Cumbrians who were related to the original Britonic people which included the Welsh and the Cornish. The Invasion was similar to the Viking invasions in that the invaders eventually integrated and become one with the rest of the people. It happened centuries before the Norman conquests.

  • Beautiful.

  • Genius
