As soon as they said "1962" I thought "Doctor Who?" and as soon as I saw the logo and the 'vortex' I knew what they were poking fun at. I hope, really really hope, this becomes a recurring gag all season.
They said 1962 because if they said 1963, it would be a bit too obvious that it's Doctor Who, I think. I don't know what kind of copyright laws that involves, but whatever.
Although, I'm sure the Doctor Who people would love this, and I doubt they would sue.
I didn't think this episode could get better after Starburns had a bearded dragon... but it did.
