Another fan who appreciates you posting this, also my favorite OMD song! My girlfriend of 4-years broke up with me around the time this album was released.. That song had me mesmorized..
hhank you for your kind comments, but I have to be honest here and tell you that I never recorded/filmed any of the footage seen in the video. It is all other peoples work which I copied, cut and editted together to try and match the song.
@jasons741 oh yeah . . Yaz's "Upstairs at Eric's"!!! I lost my album years ago and was thrilled to score the CD at a used record store. Music of the 80's still rocks!
The chorus is sampled Japanese TV advertisements (liner notes).
Thinking about it now, OMD does sound like it has a Japanese influence--in the same way that you can hear the German music influence in Depeche Mode's music. Martin Gore lived in Berlin for a while, and studied the German electronic music movement. I wonder if OMD did likewise in Japan.
that's interesting! thanks for sharing that. didn't know. i definitely saw my appreciation of mostly earlier DM as an offshoot of my interest in Eno/Kraftwerk/Neu/Bowie (Low era).
thanks - love this track - love the rainy car trip... nice and miserable rain juxtaposed with the great brass stuff... the text seems to be somewhat censored - i had the original UK album... ty again
Crush is my favorite OMD album!! I still love the dark ambient music and melodramatic edge in McCluskey's voice :)

That effect at 1:15 always reminded me of Full Metal Jacket, during the sniper scene; It sounds exactly like the same effect.
Bravo on the time and effort spent on this vid, especially the time-lapse bit.

This brings back memories of the late 80's when this cassette and 'catching up with Depeche Mode' were the only thing I listened to. Thanks!!

I heard this while going through my older sister's tapes as a kid.
I didn't really like the rest of the album much, but I couldn't get enough of this song.

You can hear a Japanese sound not only in Crush, but also in Enola Gay, Electricity, Secret, and most of all, Tesla Girls.

Thank you for your kind comments. I am personally a bit disappointed with the video, but it got the song up on Youube.
