The moment laws are passed based on no argument whatsoever except for their belief, and those laws affect others who do not believe it, that is not fine. The second that belief causes them to do something harmful to themselves or their family by ignoring a known fact because it contradicts their belief, that is not fine. Religion is not fine.

The best description I've heard is that calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color. I can see where the temptation would come from, as most atheists do tend to group together, but really... it's not a religion. It's sort of a nonentity. If that makes any sense at all.

But the description of God in the New Testament is very different from the Yaweh of the Old Testament, so I usually specify Jesus as a clear-cut "the Christian God, not the Jewish one". I've always said it's like as society changed, people didn't like the things their God told them to do, so they elected a new one :D .
