  • October 2003:

In 1943 the last members of Amsterdam's Portuguese Synagogue choir, Santo Serviço were deported and killed. Now, exactly 60 years later, Santo Serviço has been re-established. Our first public performance was opening the recent Chazzanut Concert: Cantors, a faith in song at the Portuguese Synagogue.

Our opening number, Baruch Habba, was removed from the PBS broadcast in America. Somebody uploaded it recently to YouTube, which you can see here.

  • What a luck we have in Holland. This music is like heaven.

  • Tears in my eyes... so beautiful.

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Simply...Beautiful

  • Hearing/seeing this gives me chills and tears in my eyes. It actually makes me a little homesick to Amsterdam. Not very good, as I am a Zionist..... But we just don't have things like this in Jerusalem. Thanks for sharing, I can listen to it over and over.

  • Finally, Mazal Tov!!!! what a treat to listen to the music of my people -the old Sefardim descendants of the Iberian Jews. I can't get enough.

  • Wow, I thought they were all Freemasons with the hats. Thanks for the explanations. Blessed is he who comes in the name of Adonai, Yehashua haMessiach, Amein.

  • Favoriting, five stars and 20 points from a German catholic. What a wonderful music!!!

  • the Esnoga was built my forebearers, I' m a direct descendant. Top hats were won by men after the bar mitzvah. The Amsterdam rendition of baruch haba has a particular inflection different to the london way of singing this song which is traditionally sung as the bride enters for her wedding

  • Sumptuous and gorgeous!!! Embodies the richness and glory of Jewish culture and tradition!

  • Fabuloso!

  • Very happy for hearing the traditions of my parents, Spanish&Portuguese Jews!

  • Amazing! Great music! But those top hats are outstanding!
