Thank you for making this video. I've watched it almost every night for about a year now since I was found it. Its incredibly inspirational to a prospective cadet. I've heard my calling and I'm working my ass off to be future West Point cadet. Wish me luck and please never take this video down.
as a usafa grad, the best part to remember is that you are not signing up for the school, you are signing up for the service. Pick what is best for you and follow your heart's dream. It may not always lead you to where you think you want to go now, but if you do this right, you will always be happy.
You guys, I can tell you... USMMA is very good... Here in brazil our "Navy" is not able to conduct "BRMMA" so we are graduating with a "weak" knowledge and knowhow.
Daniel Mello , Brazilian Merchant Marine Academy (EFOMM) , Rio de Janeiro , Brasil.
Man i wish i could go to the USAFA. i hate ACT's. Im real great in school with all honors and AP and i have Stright A's but admissions wont give me a chance :(
even though they arent academies, vmi and the citadel should be in here. they are definietely just as tough with the same military and educational standards
@saberallen5 They don't tell you the minimum. Just know that you have to pass all evens, you can max out your run, push ups, crunchs, BB throw, and sprints but if you cant do a pull up you are done. Same goes for any event.
@saberallen5 18 pull ups in 2 min is max. 75 push ups in 2 min. 5 :20 mile. 102 feet basketball throw from the knees, and some really short sprinting event. Do that! and u get a 100, which is highest
my dream was to be able go to west point. That did happen, It hurt but i didnt let that stop me i did the next best thing Army Rotc. Training with the New York Army National Guard. It doesnt matter what college we go to it matters when we are on the battlefield together. UMASS class of 2014. HVCC class of 2012
@Sharod101 Apply to VMI as well. My grandfather went there. Because of that school he secured my father a spot in the Naval Academy.... of course my dad was a dumbass and enlisted in the marine corps.
@gusisyodaddy i jjust realized i wrote Kingspoint and USAFA, i ment to write Kingspoint and the Naval Academy.
the only reason why i don't plan to go to the VMI is because 1. its not fully paid for, and for me to go out of state, it would cost me appx 28,000 a year. i don't have that kinda money to go out of state, instate i could here in FL and 2. i had a friend go, and he left to go the USAFA within his first year because of the racism/discrimination that he recieved for being brown like me.
@Sharod101 Ah sorry, i forgot it was a confederate school. On second thought, my grandpa was a racist...... Nevermind that. I plan on applieing for USNA USMA and USAFA. Then VMI, but my dad said he'd secure a spot for me in the service academies if i get the grades.
@gusisyodaddy yea, being southeastern asian (bengali) it'd be tough there, and i personally think its wrong a school as prestigious as the VMI would be like that. I met the director of admissions of the VMI by complete freak accident up in the DC area, and he wanted to recruit me thinking i was a junior when i was a freshmen in h.s. and i got his card and he told me of all the success that i could get into after VMI, it wasn't till a friend told me how hard life was there socially.
@gusisyodaddy if i don't make it to the academy in one shot, i'm going to go into the National Guard for 2 years, and upon completion of AIT i'm gonna go get my commercial flight licenses, and once i've done 1.5 years with ATP as a student and instructor (and some online college), i'm going to aim to make it to the academies one last time. so by the age of 20-21 i'll have made it in for sure almost.
Why is it that they did a special on TV not long ago about service academies and the Merchant Marine Academy was not included? I heard it isn't even free to attend anymore... shame.
anyone go to west point here? or have graduated? i have so many questions that are not covered in the admissions part of their website. plus i really want to hear from an actual cadet.
@sj12345ab They went sailing. During plebe summer you wear whiteworks echo most of the time, which requires you to wear your PT uniform under your trousers and blouses. They take off the outer layers and sail in PT gear.
really which one? I went to MMI this past year. Like you I didnt make it academically to the c/o 2012 but I was selected for the CGA Scholars Program and was sent to MMI
well i dont kno yet hahahah. im leaving tommorrow for R-day tho, so im excited. wont have any access to computer for like two-months so thats disappointin. oh well, good luck to you then
Hey, nice vid! I'm from USAFA so I was a little disappointed in the lack of pictures, but I know it's hard to find them. We're not as old as the other academies, but...
Wonderful vid..we are a proud military family (USAFA '79, CGA 2012, Citadel '86) Duty, honor and service to country, what's not to love?? Thanks for posting.
To all the young men and women who accept the challenge and take the "the road less traveled", you deserve America's respect. You certainly have mine.
@keydet74 i give respect to anyone who serves with good morality and good citizenship to the military, and i have twice as much respect for those who come from the academies, and i'm hoping to soon receive it as well.
but the saddest part is, they don't have nor had the respect of every citizen dead or alive in the USA. Too many people doubt and look down upon our military (and gov't, which is in a sense mutany).
each soldier, sailor, pilot and technician in the AS deserve respect from us.
Great job. It brought back many memories of life on the yard from the good times to the absurdities. Love the music but it is Counting Crows not Crowns.
