@450hGS Yea I am thinking of buying either the M3 or the ISF (audi is way too conservative). The ISF will be fast for a long time...or at least longer than the Germans. The Germans carry more status though, at least the beamer does. My friend's M3 is in the shop a lot for water pumps and shocks wearing out prematurely so I may brake for the ISF after all.

people say that the m3 is faster than the ISF. I disagree, why, the Isf has 8 gears and power must be distributed thru the 8 gears. thus the m3 with little gears the power comes early beating the isf for the 1/4 mile. but if you continue after that the m3 iz toast coz of hp difference !!

@ramonj08 Acc 2 Top Gear, the sound of the engine in the IS-F is second only to the Lambo Murcielago. Bit of an exxageration im sure but it sounds nice, which to me is important and means it isnt boring.
The RS4 in this review doesn't even have the bucket seats or sports steering wheel.
That's why I hate watching US reviews of the RS4, they've been screwed over by Audi. In the US you can't even get many of the decent options for the car that you can in Europe.
German cars are garbage...why?? not reliable and after about 150,000 miles you will constantly have it in the shop. im a mechanic and i get a LOT of german cars in my shop...i rarely get lexus in my shop..only when they require regular maintenance..lexus are great cars!
@miztahdo you rarely get a Lexus in your shop, because no one buys them as much as they look at the better German cars. Lexus may be reliable, but it is a very boring car. The BMW, Mercedes, and Audi may cost a lot to maintain, but you would enjoy driving them more than a Lexus.

The lexus is a great car... The Audi has been out since 99 and lexus has been out for a couple of years now. Seems a bit unfair. It would be interesting to see how the new RS5 (or if a new RS4 comes out). BTW the M3 beat the LS F (c fifth gear comparison and top gear)

Why is it a test to 80 mph and not to 60? its coz the rs will eat the ISF! They have timed it at 4.5 to 60 with gps running gear in an independant magazine over hee in the uk and their fave is the M3 in the mag. The 4 WD does help off the line for sure. The lexus is a beast i love em both, great machines. Saying that we have just had the shitest weather here in the uk over xmas, and i know what one i want to be thrapping around in the rain and snow! Rs4 for me guys

@ebradahusla actually... no. you can't put full power down from the start, because the clutch won't take it. to launch 4wd off the line, you have to ease the car, get it rolling and then floor it.
some cars have strong enough clutches, true, but form what i can recall, this hasn't
Lexus, hands down, is the best manufacturer going. As one who owns both a Porsche 911 and a Lexus GS 400, I am constantly impressed with the performance prowess of the Lexus.

The IS isnt even on the same chassis as a camry, the ES is the one thats a fixed up camry. Besides I could say that the rs4 is a fixed up Jetta, but its really not

I dont know about "owns," its only off by about .3 seconds....thats hardly "owning anything, haha. But, I will give the C63 credit that its finally stepping up its performance.
However, on the track, the M3 still is King like it has been for years. I personally would take the M3, but then again I'm more of a BMW fan to begin with. Mercedes's interiors have become ultra cheaped out as of late and its really disappointing. Even the S550 which I like is starting to use a lot of cheapo plastics.

You're forgetting a few major details. Its not like lexus took a stab in the dark with no guide...they did what every other car maker has done for years when it falls behind...study and then attempt to copy the superior brand of which they've failed. In case you forgot, the M3 still wins in the straight shot and it rapes the ISF on the track where it matters. Any idiot can build a car to race from 0-60...if that is your only qualification, then you should stick with a mustang
Furthermore, if the M3 was a dying brand, then why is it still king? Why does the M3 still perform better than all the others around the track?
And lets not forget that the price of the ISF is not far off from the M3...you get what you pay for. If you don't mind FAKE and cheesy exhaust pips, body moldings that create a messy look and you're on a budget, then the ISF is for you.

That's why I hate watching US reviews of the RS4, they've been screwed over by Audi. In the US you can't even get many of the decent options for the car that you can in Europe.

German cars are garbage...why?? not reliable and after about 150,000 miles you will constantly have it in the shop. im a mechanic and i get a LOT of german cars in my shop...i rarely get lexus in my shop..only when they require regular maintenance..lexus are great cars!

@miztahdo you rarely get a Lexus in your shop, because no one buys them as much as they look at the better German cars. Lexus may be reliable, but it is a very boring car. The BMW, Mercedes, and Audi may cost a lot to maintain, but you would enjoy driving them more than a Lexus.

And if i like around the neighborhood I see BMW e46's, e90's, e60's and a few e66's. As well as a few Mercs. And German cars being cheap quality? LOL! get your facts straight a base model VW Golf has a better materials than some of these Japanese econo boxs that are on the road. Plus I drive a 15 year old BMW that has over 150K

@ramonj08 OK KID Ive owned a BMW for 13 years and my wife had an Audi for 7 years and those are cool cars but its not worh the money...I take great care of them since I got it and its always been in and out of the shop since its 6th year...but when I bought the 2003 Lexus IS300 and 2004 nissan 350z Ive NEVER had any problems with it AT ALL KID. and also these cars are hell of a lot more fun than those piece of shit cars like you have,,,watch you be on the side of the road next week :)

@Skampo1119 they're almost identical in every aspect, only a modern bmw makes you look like a prick and a lexus IS makes you look cool.
on the quarter mile, on the turns, on the laps, on the 0-X times. They stay neck and neck until the lexus pulls ahead at the top end (larger engine).
now a mk4 jetta glx with a O2M transmission and a kinetic stage 5 turbo... that would be a different story and you'd save 40 grand.

The lexus is a great car... The Audi has been out since 99 and lexus has been out for a couple of years now. Seems a bit unfair. It would be interesting to see how the new RS5 (or if a new RS4 comes out). BTW the M3 beat the LS F (c fifth gear comparison and top gear)

Why is it a test to 80 mph and not to 60? its coz the rs will eat the ISF! They have timed it at 4.5 to 60 with gps running gear in an independant magazine over hee in the uk and their fave is the M3 in the mag. The 4 WD does help off the line for sure. The lexus is a beast i love em both, great machines. Saying that we have just had the shitest weather here in the uk over xmas, and i know what one i want to be thrapping around in the rain and snow! Rs4 for me guys

some cars have strong enough clutches, true, but form what i can recall, this hasn't

Lexus, hands down, is the best manufacturer going. As one who owns both a Porsche 911 and a Lexus GS 400, I am constantly impressed with the performance prowess of the Lexus.
While I will be hard-pressed to give up the 911, that IS-F sure is tempting.

Honestly these are both great cars. You hardly ever hear people saying that Audi or Lexus sucks. There's not much bad to say about either one, but i think the IS-F looks more badass, that stacked exhaust is sweet

ill take the rs over the F, yeah F is nice but i dont want a camry that was fixed up. RS like AMG and M are all great all around cars and always will be. they are cars that people will always love. give it a couple years and theyll scrap it like they did many of their great cars. toyota needs to go back and focus on building their prius like they are good at

The IS isnt even on the same chassis as a camry, the ES is the one thats a fixed up camry. Besides I could say that the rs4 is a fixed up Jetta, but its really not

I won't be a hypocrite so I'll speak the truth. I'll drive and own the RS4 anyday (overall fit & finish is more superior than an AMG or an M product), but I admire Lexus's technical ambition to establish a serious high performance division, F.
What the IS-F shows is the 'possibility' of rivalling and beating the benchmark global market leader. Unfortunately, they must emulate (plagiarise?) the best (German ubersaloons) in order to beat the best.

I dont know about "owns," its only off by about .3 seconds....thats hardly "owning anything, haha. But, I will give the C63 credit that its finally stepping up its performance.
However, on the track, the M3 still is King like it has been for years. I personally would take the M3, but then again I'm more of a BMW fan to begin with. Mercedes's interiors have become ultra cheaped out as of late and its really disappointing. Even the S550 which I like is starting to use a lot of cheapo plastics.

Who exactly does the lexus "king" preside over? Honda? lol. The ISF is spanked by every other respectable sports car in its class. The M3 and C63amg both outrun it in the 0-60, 0-100 and on the track full of rough corners that the lexus can't handle.
Coupled with FAKE exhaust pipes and tacky body kits that just look cheap (as all the experts agree), the lexus takes home a pat on the back and a gift card to walmart while the others take home the metals lol.

You're forgetting a few major details. Its not like lexus took a stab in the dark with no guide...they did what every other car maker has done for years when it falls behind...study and then attempt to copy the superior brand of which they've failed. In case you forgot, the M3 still wins in the straight shot and it rapes the ISF on the track where it matters. Any idiot can build a car to race from 0-60...if that is your only qualification, then you should stick with a mustang

Furthermore, if the M3 was a dying brand, then why is it still king? Why does the M3 still perform better than all the others around the track?
And lets not forget that the price of the ISF is not far off from the M3...you get what you pay for. If you don't mind FAKE and cheesy exhaust pips, body moldings that create a messy look and you're on a budget, then the ISF is for you.
If you want a better performing car with a cleaner appearance and interior (i.e. the new idrive), get the M3
