Hilarious. though not funny for the people on board. I hope and assume that everyone was rescued safely, and if that is the case, each of them has a great travel story to tell.
As a pilot of big passenger balloons I'd say that that was probably intentional. Using trees, bushes or hedges to slow down is a practice which is occasionally used and it seems quite obvious that the pilot targetted this thicket rather than doing a hard drag landing before the trees or the time-consuming river-crossing option. It's also possible he was trying to give his passengers as long a flight as possible. Remember, these African safari pilots are amongst the best in the world.
Did the pilot say why he did'nt land before or after the trees instead of in them? It is not like beeing stuck in the mud, he could heat the balloon enough to go back up and fly on.
If the pilot had flown beyond the trees it would have crossed the river and the chase crew would have taken at least half a day to get to us. The pilot should have landed must earlier but misjudged the landing.
I had a feeling the other side of the trees was out of the park or something like that. Yes he definitely misjujudged the landing, maybe their looking for a new pilot, I'd love to fly Africa.
