  • The Phantom overacts I believe, he should tone it down, and i think Raoul needed to be in a different staging than he was, it just seems wrong to have him lying on the floor... back to the phantom, he sounds like the cowardly lion when he says 'go now and leave me' :L I think there was potential there but it was directed badly and i think you probably refered to the film too much, hope this helps in some way :)

  • incredible. :)

  • making everything happen, and usually the overworked nature of the position shows through in the final performance. These videos should serve other schools as proof of concept that this show can be done successfully on a high school stage, it'll just be really hard.

Special note: I loved the note at the end. It is rare that high schoolers have a strong enough cast leader or even the presence of mind to give credit where it's due, and to do so in such a production appropriate way is just

  • any school ever successfully puts on a play. So all that said these kids did a bang up job, especially the Phantom, Christine and Carlotta. Many of the most awkward or cringe inducing moments were more a function of shakey blocking or out and out changes to the way things usually flow in this play, like the timing of the reveal in Point of No Return. That all falls on the director, which is not to say they were bad, it's just that usually the director is more exec. producer, in charge of

  • awkward. Any genuine talent that comes to bear is a bonus. (2) Unless you've been involved with one of these shows, you cannot imagine the sheer amount of time and man power it takes to do a simple play, let alone Phantom. Casting, coaching, set building, securing the rights to the music and script, organizing practice around other extracurricular schedules (because drama is always second fiddle if not twelvth) and then working around the missing actors on any given day. I am surprised

  • As an adult who was recently involved in a high school production such as this (different play) I feel uniquely qualified to comment on this... I quite enjoyed it. There is a certain level of forgiveness that must be built into the critique of any high school show because (1) these kids are not professionals. I am surprised by the sheer number of bodies they fielded on that stage, particularly boys. In high school you pray you have enough extroverts to fill the main rolls without looking

  • I don't have any problem with the skill of the actors, they're actually really good for highschool students. But the stage directions are terrible. Why did the Phantom put his mask back on after Point of No Return? Why does Raoul pass out and then the Phantom not threaten his life AT ALL after that? Christine and Raoul should be offstage at the end. And why did Christine return if she had no ring to give the Phantom? Oh and they could have just walked out of the lair in this one...just saying.

  • Very good show! Loved how Mme. Giry smacked Carlotta with a note and how the managers laughed at "Carlotta must to taught to act" then acted surious. Loved how Meg, managers, Raoul are in 'regular' clothes. Don Juan/Final Lair neded work, Phantom needed fedora and Caviler. Act 2 gets an A-, overall show vey good!

  • I don't get it? did Raoul just pass out? why is he just laying there?

  • i really think that it was a great show. of course you can't compare it to the original shows in london or ny but i must say that i'm quiet impressed by this HIGH SCHOOL production. i wish my school would have made musicals when i was a student...

  • carlotta...i mean christine, must be taught to act, not her normal trick of strutting round the stage.

seriously, the only things that kept me watching was carlotta and the phantom's voice.

theres no blocking whatsoever. they missed so many glaringly obvious opportunities to make the phantom appear out of no where, instead of just walk on stage. raul might as well have not been in the show. he was totally forgettable.

i'm comparing to other HS productions, not london or broadway.

    1.5 / 5

  • @Dalegend27 Stop bashing! The play was amazing!!! The only reason there only was a cross in the graveyard scene was because they had to change set really quick!! The chandelier was hung above the audience! Thats really hard to do!!! And all the money wasnt spent on the "dry ice" because there is something called a fog machine!!! Asswhole!!!

  • I am the biggest phan in the world, and I'm saying that it wasn't bad! LISTEN TO ME!!!!!! If you say that they didn't put in effort, you should go to jail! The wishing gown (blue dress) was beautiful so say it!!!!! It was high school, not Broadway!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think this was a very good production i am not a cast member but a phantom fanfrom the uk where the phantom was written and first performed .... well done to all involned you should be very proud! and i agree with ladyofshalott2009 we must remember this is a high school production and what a triumph as the phantomwould say bravee bravee bravisamee xxx

  • ha more like what a failure! it was poorly directed, poorly blocked, very poorly acted, etc. no, this is more like a disaster beyond your imagination.

  • All the comments on this video must be from cast members, because proper words do not exist to describe just how dreadful this was. While there were certainly good elements, it was holistically a train wreck. Why doesn't the Phantom know the lyrics? Why doesn't he know how to pronounce monsieur? Why can't the ensemble sing together? Why does this Christine suck at acting? This was nothing short of a disaster and the perfect example of why high schools should not put this show on.

  • @JoshuaMars99 I'd have to agree as some parts are good, but this Phantom production must have been on a very tight budget. Why is there only a cross at the graveyard scene? Where is the crypt? Why doesn't he have a staff that shoots fireballs? The chandelier is far short of phantastic. Looks like a lot of the money was spent on dry ice for the fog and the rights to perform the show instead of set design, costumes and lighting.

  • @Dalegend27 It's a High school project. Regarding that, it is fantastic. The actors, the set...everything is amazing....

  • @plzen99 I understand it's a high school project. I'm used to seeing high quality high school musicals with sets, costumes, acting, blocking, lighting, etc. that can give some professional shows a run for their money. I can't see how this set is amazing. Only a cross for the graveyard scene is not amazing.

  • @JoshuaMars99 these are high school kids, doing a musical that takes great vocal range...I thought the kid that played the Phantom had an incredible voice. You seem to want Broadway quality from high school kids

  • @BCE42906 Um, I seem to acknowledge that these were high school kids. No, doing a musical does not intrinsically require a great vocal range, but doing this one certainly does. It is the director's job to know what talent he has available and to not do the show if the talent isn't available. I want a good quality show, and this one is clearly too big for the available talent and the incompetent director.

  • @JoshuaMars99 when schools choose a musical, it is usually chosen early on...the kid who played the Phantom had an amazing voice...the girl who was Christine, maybe she wasn't feeling well and that's why she didn't try for the high E. I'm just saying cut them some slack. A school must get permission to do the show, and permission isn't handed out easily for it.

  • @BCE42906 I'm well aware of the process. It remains irresponsible for the director to pick a show when he does not know for certain he has the talent to do it. This Christine doesn't seem to have the upper range necessary. Very few high school girls do. As I've been saying, I fault the director not the kids. Permission is apparently easily granted, given the train wreck this turned into.

  • @JoshuaMars99 What, they cant put on show for pure fun? They can only put it on if they are as talented as the actors in the broadway production of phantom of the opera? Yeah it has it's flaws, but remember they aren't professionals, they are high school students.

  • @HPAbby Any director with any respect for the stage would not put on this show without the requisite talent. Fun should be a part of it, but fun cannot be the exclusive focus. I said nothing about being as talented as the actors on Broadway or West End. The brunt of the fault remains on the director. I have said these things over and over, so please refer to my previous comments if anybody else wishes to give the same response.

  • @JoshuaMars99 Again, it's a SCHOOL play, it's not meant to be viewed that critically. Unless of course it's a performing arts school, or these students intend to pursue a career in the arts. By the way, it may not be easy to find people with the proper talent in a high school, they can only do what they can with the limited resources given to them, and they clearly made an effort.

  • the Phantom had an awesome voice! I hope the kid pursues that in the future

  • Also just wanted to take the opportunity to say that Christine looks like an absolute kinky girl at 21:57 and it looks like Raoul really DIES just after that!!! XD

  • wow I am beyond impressed. I think I would fall in love with this show even with amateurs!! The set/costumes are great too!

  • monsieur, say it right for christ sakes...

  • The Phantom is a bit overdramatic, but he has a great voice! :)

  • Very impressive, especially for high school. I'm jealous my HS never performed this. Brilliantly done! ^_^

  • Awww, I love the final "note". :P

  • This was very good.

  • bravi bravi bravissimi :)

  • This phantom is fantastic! Very impressive for a high school production!

  • @LadyofShalott2009 I think he's borderline professional...seriously go listen to John Cudia, he's almost up to that quality!!

  • @excaliburtation I know!! I saw john cudia on broadway, and this phantom sounds almost just like him!!!

I think this was a decent production, besides the lame chandelier crash..

  • Were those blanks in the gun that was shot?

  • @LightsCameraAaron no there were actual amunition in it

  • @Pestblake How did the actor make sure he didn't kill anyone? lol

  • @LightsCameraAaron He fired directly at a target at the top right corner. and i should know, i am that actor that shot that gun.

  • Buzz kill :p but very funny 8:10
