  • 1:02 we already have that its called the green line.

  • I don't know about that Monorail but I know that there getting the California high speed train.

  • Where's the petition to sign on for this?

  • a dude the los angeles river isnt ugly its ghetto and nasty and smells bad ....east side

  • make a rail from downtown to anaheim to long beach back to downtown. cause blue line from 7th and metro to ocean blvd in long beach takes forever man.

  • how about on the side of the freeway... and put them on all the freeways that way ill never use a car. till then ill be chevrons slave.

  • anyways, there are not very many park n rides near the red line stations to utilize solely for those who ride it. I understand offering park n ride would increase ridership but lots would defeat the purpose of a public transportation. people need to walk more! lol. Thats why we need public trans now!

  • At the very least I think it would be a good idea to include non impervious green parking solutions into the lots designs...I know they have such a thing, Im not sure if you know what im talking about buts basically its parking that water can pass through.

  • I just dont think there should be parking lots up against a river...fake or real..but it's not up to me I suppose. Never the less I still hope this project is taken into consideration no matter what the sacrafice...Much like I still think the california Highspeed should be put into place as well. Im a person that wants to see California lead the way and move forward, what better way to do that than with transportation diversification?

  • The least used stations further down close to the ends of the line could have lots I guess, however I dont think another parking lot should be layed down in the downtown area (especially near the union station). The downtown area needs more plantlife!

  • all im saying is it would be a big mistake to use any of the land nearby the bank as parking... the MR should go to a parking structure atleast 200-500 yards away from the bank.

  • Are you one of those "Friends of the L.A. River" people? It is possible to have "scenic" stations with parking without disrupting the beauty of the river. This project would catapult the beautifcation of the river project to satisfy everyone.

  • well, Im not officially, no...lol. Im just one of those people that think parking lots are ugly! lol. Would it be a bad thing if i was anyways? lol.

  • the los angeles river isnt ugly?

  • no one said it was nice except Huggermussus...LOL! Thats the whole point of all these comments...the monorail and the comments about beautyfication of the river are in light of its ugliness. I forsee two possibilities.1. the monorail will be built, more people ride through the river area and want to see it in a better state.2. they'll make the river a better place to be and they'll build the monorail.

  • beautification*

That is, if officials ever begin these proposed projects. Only time will tell.

  • the only thing that shouldnt be put into place in this concepts design is the park n rides...they should be located a couple blocks away...not at the bank, remember...they're already proposing a restoration project that would utilize this space for parkway instead of parking already!

  • Thank you for your comments. I designed this idea nearly thirty years ago and having the monorail over the middle of the river is not safe or cost effective.

  • everyone look at the cheonggyecheon river in SEOUL, KOREA!! its a perfect example of how ours can be restored and is also the Mayors inspiraton for the restoration projects! It used to be a highway topped sewer...

  • the LA river was designed poorly, it was only meant to be a solution to flooding and water loss, we have the technology to overcome that now and plus some, not to mention the need for future greatness in LA. LA has no future in the world if it continues as is. I support this project, and any other river Restoration project. no more open sewers!!!

  • I have spoken with some engineers who suggested the monrail run along the banks (on either side) of the river to allow for easier access. The Park 'n' ride lots could be anywhere close to the individual stations. The area on either side of the river is for maintenance vehicles. Although it is a very good idea, changing that to a parkway would be a major re-design of the river.

  • I think our great monorail should have been mentioned; it´s the oldest one in the world!!

    search for " Schwebebahn Wuppertal"

  • Gee, I hope you are not comparing the L.A. River to the Great Pyramid Cholua. If it weren't for the Army Corps of Engineers building the cement walls of the L.A. River, major flooding of millions of homes would have occurred over the years. Today it exists solely to channel the water to the sea during our rainy season.

Look, there is no reason why beautification of the river and a monorail along that river cannot coexist. It's called progress.

  • Great, except that the river as it is is a beautiful, surreal, historic landmark, and this would change it from its current state. I hope it never happens.

  • In case you haven't noticed, most of the L.A. River is an open sewer!

  • That may be, but it is beautiful nonetheless. The mentality behind this proposition is the same as that which would excavate the Via Appia, topple the Great Pyramid of Cholula, or rebuild the Flavian Amphitheatre. It is the same mentality which built a parking lot at Mont Saint-Michel, demolished Kowloon Walled City, and daily unbuilds and builds over architectural culture in the United States before it can be seen as such.

  • So, when is Los Angeles going to wake up and join the future? Come on Mr. Mayor, time is ticking away and the freeways are jammed all day long.
