i live here in toronto a nd th ese new hybrid buses (not sure if this is the same kinda one) are always being towed away or stuck with 4ways on at the side of the road...never recall seeing the old gm fishbowls break down this much.

My 2 cents. These 2006 Old-Gen hybrids should be pulled for the winter until this is resolved as many critics think it's crap. It's been crap since the 94xx CNG tanks in 1997 when TTC is short of buses, so they ended up borrowing the 35 Utah Fishbowls.

Anyone can think, they should borrow 80 D40LFs from Edmonton or lease em.

@TTCOrionVII8100 Until our Novas arrive this problem wont be solved. if I wass Giambrone I would go and get Novas like, NOW, and use them to replace the entire fleet of Orions, and also use life-extension on the D40LFs so they have a same lifetime as the Fishbowls. Like that idea?

But unfortunately, I'm not Giambrone, and on top of this, YRT went on strike :(

That is the reason why they want an old bus, like a leyland lynx, Same story with First (uk: leeds) Allmost all of the new fleet of busses that they bought from Volvo broke down within the first day!!!!

@nicksorg106 must be coming from someone with no mechanical knowledge whatsoever... its not always about maintaing something... nowadays theres so much computer related components on buses and such that shit just goes wrong.. these things can be inspected with a microscope and not ten mins later be in this same posistion. not saying maintnence doesn't prevent some things but lots of shit just happens and theres nothing that normal maintence would help.

It was good 30 years ago. a model almost. now a days it's in need of a few bandaids., .i think even the province has cut fu nding. not sure. from what i heard in the ttc's defence, those hybrid buses are shit. usually ttc has buses that run. the old gms were amazing.

Also wait til you find out about SEPTA's newest DE40LF,they are slow and it can't go fast and SEPTA won't fix them nither and they are having isses as well and yet they are replacing the 1996-1997 NABI 40SFW,this will case a storage issue wehen those new DE40LF get put of service,people and drivers are complaining about them going slow,hybrid have proven to be junk and be worst fuel ever!!! thats what i heard about SEPTA new DE40LF and its true.

It looks like the TTC is bringing the GM New Looks back into service. I have seen a lot of them on the 168 Symington route. Those are good buses. Too bad they stopped making them.

I really don't see the point in a hybrid bus. Go with natural gas like D.C. METRO buses. They're a lot cleaner than any bus running on diesel...even a diesel hybrid

This bus has 2 drive trains: the diesel engine and the electric propulsion motor. Both have to be working at the same time. I own a Hybrid car.

It was the battery problem that plagued most of TTC's Orion VII NG and Original Hybrid buses. They are due to be replaced and get Lithium Ion batteries.

The TTC shouldn't have bought buses from Orion as their Orion VIIs have a lot of problems and the hybrids are turning out to be a scam as the fuel savings are only 10%. What they should have bought was longer articulated buses that Vancouver, Ottawa and Mississauga have in their fleets which can deal with overcrowding. Articulated buses can be fuel efficient assuming you fill an entire articulated bus to capacity

The problem is that the batteries have a major flaw: Their not llasting a full 5 years as predicted.

TTC relied too heavily on NYC's MTA expreience before pruchasing these. only diffrence between T.O. and NYC: New York Orion 7NG hybrids travel trough more stop and go traffic. T.O still has some stop and go traffic, they use up the batteries quicker due to long, straight, up and down ravine avenues we have

Most mechanics say that new engine 2007-present are mostly junk, since they don't work properly like old engine's use to. Anyways they should make the bus run on Elizabeth May's farts.
