wet heavy snow is alot worse than the dry snow. to drive on. but i think these people dont have the experience to drive in it as they dont get snow much.
I lived in Seattle for 10 years. Snowfalls were usually treacherous affairs. It usually doesn't get that cold, so the snow would melt some during the day, and freeze at night and repeat that every day until the temp got high enough to melt everything. One year there were cars completely stranded on a freeway bridge. Nothing could get in there to help.
Since Seattle might only have one snow a year if that, snow equipment's not high on the list. But, when it's bad, it's bad.
Lmao. I thought RWD were suppose to be bad in the snow/ice until I saw the Uhaul. It was probably loaded down though..more traction of course...not so much for the Durango.
WELL LETS SEE , OHH WOW IM A GENIUS, IM GUESSING YOU WONT MAKE IT UP ANY HILL EVEN IN HALF INCH OF SNOW IF YOU ARE HITTING THE HILL ON THE BOTTOM WITH SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, AS YOU CAN SEE THE DRIVER IN 1.40 HAS NO PROBLEM MAKING UP THE HILL WITH GOING ABOUT 30MPH BUT THE OTHER MORONS SAW 2 INCHES ON THE GROUND AND DECIDED TODRIVER 5 MPH SO I GUESS THATS THE PROBLEM. WOW IM SOO SMART, AMERICANS THATS THE PROBLEM THEIR GO FASTER UP THAT HILL ON THE BOTTOM MORONS
in all fairness this is a steap hill. All you drivers that laugh and pound your chest about how awesome a snow driver you are I encourgae you come to our city and drive in our snow first. Then proceed to leave your money and go back home to whatever shitty city you come from.
@uhclem Seattle receives snow so sporadically from year to year the county does not have have funds set aside for proper mitigation, such as plows. Furthermore when it does snow 2" then rains another .5" then freezes overnight I think you can imagine what the roads are like. The hills here are very steep. I find it amusing when people talk they way they do without ever experiencing the exact situation first hand. It's the nature of the comment thread I suppose.
@uhclem But plows and such are not even needed when there's so little snow as there is in this video. Maybe these people just like driving like they do, and maybe they don't like driving normally.
pretty funny video if your a complete idiot and dont realize seattle is nothing but large hills right next to the ocean so when it rains which is all the time and it get cold it creates this thing called "ice" and if you dont have studded tires your not going to get around anywhere especially when it decides to snow on top of said "ice". if seattle drivers are bad. then try driving down I-5 in rush hour and we will see who gets in wreck.
probably more to do with the fact that it dose not snow hardly at all in Seattle so almost no one knows how to drive in it to begin with, and well unlike say Further north in western washington (like Bellingham) very few people actually invest in winter tires let alone Studded winter snow tires. They just stick with the factory "all season" which are really only fit for spring summer and fall, but no winter and snow/ice.
@drwsdavis what? theres a million types of all season tires. They have a reduced effectiveness in crazy snowy conditions. But as a michigan driver (driven through 2 michigan winters on the same set of all season tires) id say its often more the driver than the tire.
1:20. This is nice. This is something all Seattle should do to help their fellow motorist instead of making fun by making video and posting it on Youtube.
@irith I drive truck and was there when that happened. There was freezing rain the night before and then started snowing when the temp rose. The snow was very wet and added with the half inch of ice under it made for very hazardous conditions.
What the fucktard poster of this video fails to mention is that it's 2in of snow on top of black ice. The snow was a wet snow and that is never good snow to drive on.
Chains on the rear-wheels of a fwd car...in 2 inches of mushy snow...wow...hahaha. Just straighten out the steering wheel...and go easy on the throttle and brakes!
Notice how the subaru just zoomed by. Honestly though, I live in Sweden, and I have never driven on snow as slippery as that. Ice, sure, but snow, never.
Wrong type of tyres with no grip and unnecessary speeding of the engine. 2nd gear and just enough revs to keep the car moving usually works, at least here in Finland.
@mikerowave1986 You would need an automatic transmission that allows selecting just the "2nd gear". Volvos with automatic transmission have a special program for winter driving. When it is selected, the car starts in the 2nd gear. I can tell you that a manual transmission can be just as tricky in winter, in particular if the car has rear wheel drive.
@mikerowave1986 If you knew anything about vehicular components (which you evidently do not) then you'd know that most automatic transmissions have a specific gear for adverse weather conditions. Often known as "2nd"
@casmatori I am surprised you say that about tires, based on my own experiences. Once I get my snow tires on, my 4-door sedan goes anywhere as long as the snow is not deep enough to lift the frame off the ground. On the off ramps, when it's really icy, I have to drive around all the stuck 4x4 SUVs with all season tires. It helps that I have been driving in Minnesota winters for 35 years, but technique is not sufficent without proper tires.
@AltRage Where I live it would be a waste of time and money buying them as it gets snowy/icy maybe 2 weeks of the year at most. I just run with regular Michelin tires and I have no trouble negotiating hills in my X5. It all comes down to fluidity and making sure you maintain your forward motion.
Of course in Minnesota they're beneficial because you get snow and under 30 degree temperatures a lot x
The problem is not the amount of snow.... it's the kind of snow.... This stuff turned into gooey slush right away..... Whereas in the midwest, the snow is powdery, giving more traction.... Yea, I lived in Bremerton, and Montana....
OK, so they dont have the skill, they dont have the right tires. And YES i DO CLAIM to be BETTER, why? When thing is out of my hand and i dont know what to do, I DONT DO IT!!!!!
Why are Seattle people complaining so much? It's supposed to snow there for a week out of every year anyway. Yeah when a ton of snow hit a few years ago I didn't hear anyone complaining then, yet you bitch and moan when there's only been like a couple inches. God...
Have you ever seen the streets in Seattle? There are some very steep hills all around that will wear you out just walking up one. You will find cars struggling in the snow anywhere in the world where there is snow. To just pick out a few having problems and group a whole city together based on that is immature at best. You must work for MSNBC.
@DanShifflett - just because you have a fwd car doesnt mean putting chains on the rear is useless. You dont have mass acceleration but you wont fishtail and as you can see in most snow videos fishtailing is the result of most crashes. chains arent just for traction, they help lateral stability, acceleration, steering and braking.
@keneeye it's not useless, but it's not as useful as putting it in front of the tires, especially in this case.
either way, chains are only good for deep powdery snow, not the shitty snow>rain>sleet>snow>rain>freeze overnight>snow + hills that we have here on the westcoast.
@chrisram57 You must be 55 years old and need your eyes checked. Get some glasses!! I understand putting on chains on the rear wheels for traction but if you going up hill you probably want to put them on the driving wheels.
There are dumb drivers everywhere. Seattle has some weird snow storms. It usually snows a couple days then gets warm then freezes again so seattle turns into an ice rink, it turns from skill into you're fucked. I havent crashed my old jetta in any of the storms we had because Im smart where i drive. too many cars built with AWD so people think theyre legit. Besides Seattle is the shit, dont hate cause we have better weed then you.
I love it when it snows because I can drive my land rover around town and pull everyone out of ruts and up hills and I look like super man combined with mother Teresa.
Everybody's proud of where they are from and no other place on earth is as cool as them. BS. I've driven in all 48 states and you all suck everywhere snow or no snow. And if you were as smart as you think you are you would see that the snow in this video is a wet snow. In other words it affords no traction . Same as ice. So stop comparing with your snow in Canada , Minnesota or wherever. You sound like morons. Oh, it's the internet. You ARE morons.
They cant drive in the snow because they don't have the experience required to drive in snow or even the right kinda tires. A lot can be said, but don't claim your better because you live somewhere it snows all the time, and you can make it through snow 10x or even 100x what they got, just enjoy the video.
While I find "Sliding Across Town" Season to be hilariously entertaining, those of you panning Seattlites for not knowing how to drive in 2 inches of snow... if you only had to do it for a few days once every several years, you'd suck at it too.
Being a life long resident of Seattle I have to agree... People just don't know how to drive in the snow. My brother took me to the pass and forced me to learn to drive in the snow to be familiar with such conditions. I try to tell people momentum is your friend in certain situations and don't ride your brakes along with down shifting is your friend lol. This guy wanted me to push him up the hill with my jeep, I said it's going to damage your car and he replied "we can trade insurance". NO!
Yr comment has no educational or entertainment value. You fail to see that your need to criticize others betrays your emotional insecurities that stem from the sexual abuse you suffered from your father.
Vancouver B.C. has the same problem as Seattle, no snow tires and not used to driving in it, so massive snarl-ups. So funny for someone who grew up with snowbanks over our head in winter.
I get super sick of the lame jokes about this old meme. quit dissing seattle drivers. you fail to mention the 10 percent grade of most of our streets. how hilly are your roads, New York, Chicago, Boston? Imagine san francisco getting two inches of snow. ya. it would be like that.
i agree with wet snow and ice are harder to drive on. but how much snow does seattle get a year? the biggest problem here is a lack of experience in winter driving conditions.
you guys in colorado/finland/alberta need to be quiet for a bit.
2 inches of snow near the coast is insane because there's probably a sheet of ice in the middle of that, some sleet, slush on top of the sheet of ice. snow here is different than the dusting you guys get because over in the coast it's always straddling the freezing mark
In Canada, Alberta to be exact....We call this a "Light Dusting".....No problems ever. Try driving in 2 - 3 Feet of Snow in Blizzard Conditions (Whiteout)... Hahah Lol
this was a funny ass storm..i came from Big Bear California..about 7,000 feet above sea level where we get feet of snow..when this tinny ass storm came through and everybody was flipping out i was laughing my ass off..snow pussys
OH MY GOD i just couldn't take it anymore, i just had to put my two cents in. ok first yeah in other states and cities there way more snow than what we got okay. but just remember people that SEATTLEIS A VERY HILLY CITY so in even 2 inches of snow and it is very hard to drive. so i dare all yall shit talkers to come up here and try to drive up a steep ass hill and see what happens. oh and by the way it was about 6 inches of snow that we got and about 30mph winds. okay bye!
@nickiminajfan425 I'm up to the challenge and I'm sure that anybody that lives in a winter country would too. Up to like 3 inches on the ground I got no problem and I will drive straight even in a hill. You guys might have had 6 inches but in this video there's not even a inche on the ground yet. Check the some video on youtube about other country that has snow how they drive, you'll see that what everybody is saying is true and why they are laughing.
i have been watching and laughing at a lot of videos of seattle drivers in the snow, and discovered they all use the same tactic, brake and turn the wheel completely to one side and then wonder why they spin. idiots, lol
sad wisconsin gets around 3 feet of snow every snowstorm and we usually have 3-4 snowstorms and still go to work/school, and theres never anything like this...that's just sad
This particular hill is so steap that people spin tires even when it's dry. The commenters just have no idea about this city.

They cant drive in the snow because they don't have the experience required to drive in snow or even the right kinda tires. A lot can be said, but don't claim your better because you live somewhere it snows all the time, and you can make it through snow 10x or even 100x what they got, just enjoy the video.

@ArcticOutlaw
I agree and I think too that many of them drive vehicles that aren't good in any amount of snow.
Add to that they are not prepared for winter (good tires and all that) plus many people don't have good driving skills in good weather, let alone bad.
We had 5 inches of snow here week before last and I went any where I wanted. I drive a 2011 Call of Duty Rubicon so I had the road to myself anyway.

come to buffalo you'll be commiting suiside on how much snow we drive through. this is childs play.

While I find "Sliding Across Town" Season to be hilariously entertaining, those of you panning Seattlites for not knowing how to drive in 2 inches of snow... if you only had to do it for a few days once every several years, you'd suck at it too.

This is snow with ice underneath. You don't drive your car on ice, you aim it.

Have you considered blow up dolls?

Vancouver B.C. has the same problem as Seattle, no snow tires and not used to driving in it, so massive snarl-ups. So funny for someone who grew up with snowbanks over our head in winter.
satanerimeur 1 month ago
I get super sick of the lame jokes about this old meme. quit dissing seattle drivers. you fail to mention the 10 percent grade of most of our streets. how hilly are your roads, New York, Chicago, Boston? Imagine san francisco getting two inches of snow. ya. it would be like that.
ChordsofPower 1 month ago
i agree with wet snow and ice are harder to drive on. but how much snow does seattle get a year? the biggest problem here is a lack of experience in winter driving conditions.

you guys in colorado/finland/alberta need to be quiet for a bit.
2 inches of snow near the coast is insane because there's probably a sheet of ice in the middle of that, some sleet, slush on top of the sheet of ice. snow here is different than the dusting you guys get because over in the coast it's always straddling the freezing mark

OH MY GOD i just couldn't take it anymore, i just had to put my two cents in. ok first yeah in other states and cities there way more snow than what we got okay. but just remember people that SEATTLEIS A VERY HILLY CITY so in even 2 inches of snow and it is very hard to drive. so i dare all yall shit talkers to come up here and try to drive up a steep ass hill and see what happens. oh and by the way it was about 6 inches of snow that we got and about 30mph winds. okay bye!
nickiminajfan425 1 month ago
@nickiminajfan425 I'm up to the challenge and I'm sure that anybody that lives in a winter country would too. Up to like 3 inches on the ground I got no problem and I will drive straight even in a hill. You guys might have had 6 inches but in this video there's not even a inche on the ground yet. Check the some video on youtube about other country that has snow how they drive, you'll see that what everybody is saying is true and why they are laughing.
