  • I'd like the name of the song, please.

  • if all else fails, wrap your bike in barb wire or best yet, have a rottweiler on guard.

  • umm your the stupid ass bitch that doesn't even know how to lock a fuckin bike so shut the fuck up u little shit

  • @ the silent kill douche bag .......who cares about the fuckin floor u idiot ...your fuking retarded ...how old are u ...6 ...grow up u inmature little bitch

  • how about they put bike racks inside the buildings where security will be around ??

  • @bakerfan2 your freakin stupid the floor would get dirty duhhhh

  • If the thieves carry bolt cutters, they WILL have allen keys etc.

  • anyone out there who jacks bikes, you will get jacked too

what comes around goes around(when you dont expect it )

  • how do you prevent the bike seat from getting stolen? I know you can replace the quick release with some other screws. Do you know how to do this? Anyone?

  • @SmartAmerican1 Take off the Quick release and replace it with an allen bolt. (You need hex keys to take that off) Then after you adjust the seat to proper height, tighen the allen bolt and put a drop of crazy glue in the hole.

Now.... the Thief would need a hammer and ice pick to chisel away the crazy glue (Assuming he actually had hex keys in his pocket) . This method will thwart the crackheads downtown that steal seats off bicycles.

  • @SmartAmerican1, I had the same dilemna. My bike shop installed a cable onto the frame of the seat and attached it to the frame. You can lift the seat up and down but it won't come off unless you take the entire underside of the set apart. Thieves just want a quick grab and will walk away if they see this.

  • The lock at 0:49 had a sold secure bronze rating on it :S

  • i don tget how to lock the front help?

  • Great tips. I never thought of half this stuff and I'm new to biking altogether. I'd hate to have my beginner track bike stolen as soon as I start to enjoy it.

  • All that stuff about "break the u-lock and you don't need to break the cable" - that's true, but its a LOT harder to break a U-lock than it is a cable. I think the point is not to rely on just a cable. Having the cable independently locked would improve your security, but every cable will break with a bolt cutter, many will break with a pair of pliers or a hacksaw (which can be carried in your pocket, are easily stolen from a shop, or can be bought for < $5).

  • Fantastic video. Learnt a lot. One, I would never have thought of leaving my heavy lock at my locking location. Two keep locks low and multi lock. Also and this is the best, don't advertise how long you are going to be away. Thanks for posting.

  • common sense

  • This is a terrible fucking video for anyone who actually needs to learn how to lock a bike, and isn't already knowledgable and just looking for something to nod along with.

Also, thieves don't need two kinds of tools if your cable is secured only by your U-lock: bust the U-lock-->disable the cable.

  • @Commando303X It means have two cables, like a U-lock and a separate cable or chain lock.

  • sooo i was at a bus stop and in front of me some theif was stealing a bike, he broke the chain with a normal manual saw, i should of done something, but i was shocked to see that.

  • near the end it says "2 kinds of locks require 2 kinds of tools & thieves only carry one tool." but then it shows a bike locked up by a u-lock with cables attached to it. the cables are not independently locked, so breaking the u-lock will get them off too. only takes one tool for this example.

  • @lxa3000

I noticed that too. Seems rather dumb to do.

  • @lxa3000 Yeah, the bike owner! :P

  • i was in a very poor (hood) part of town the other day and saw an old hispanic man carrying his groceries on guess what.... a cannonadle scalpel. i didn't know if i should give him the contents of my wallet ($60) for the bike or kick his ass.

  • @dasgemuse Maybe he bought it from a thieve ...

  • One method that's worked well for me: make sure your commuter/about town bike is the ugliest one in the rack. Save your good bikes for long rides.

  • How did I get my bike back? Luck, and a heroic LBS, Highgear Cycling, in Coconut Grove, Florida. I say: make friends of your LBS. Make sure your bike is secretly marked in unique ways known to your bike shop and to you and to your police. Let the bike be marked, and even say so, "this bike is unique and known to cops"

  • I am lucky. My stolen bike was taken in to the LBS by the unwitting buyer. The bike shop knew my bike by sight and by my name on its frame. They called the cops and the cops fetched me. I got my bike back. =I had left it unlocked for one minute with my back turned away=

  • once i was at a bus station and i saw a bike missing everything except the frame

  • Agree very much with the suggestion of avoiding cable locks. Bought a couple of Knog's new Kabana cable locks based upon Knog's claim that their use of "fiber armor" enhances resistance to Bolt Cutter attack. Decided to test one of Knog's new high-tech cables, boy was I surprised, it cut like Hot Butter! Will post my vid to YouTube...

  • there were 4 thieves watching this video? lol

  • damn, i need to get me a U lock, problem is ts too damn heavy for my kind of riding.

what are some good complex locks that are not Ulock

  • Ive got a way to lock my chain. You won't be able to move the pedals. And Ive got a bike anchor. (Heavy as 5 fatboys!)

  • Steal the bike of the person too poor to afford a car :C

  • it made me feel sick seeing my lock cut open at 0.50.

  • yeah, i'm from tasmania, i don't lock my bike, no one steals them, very few ride them.

there are advantages with a city that hate bikes :)

we just had a bunch of muppets oppose a proposed bike track as they feared the bikes would endanger children! seems the car fumes have been rotting to their cerebellums.

  • @naughteedesign

Sad to hear that. I thought Tas was full of nature and shit.

  • buy those metal silver chains that r used to lock gates, i use it n its thick nobody can rip open it

  • @switchandthespur Yep, Tyneside. Best advice is to lock front and back wheels to frame and immovable objects with two different locks. Thieves often carry just one specialist tool.

  • very good vid

  • Thank you! This is extremely informative.

Will the Kryptonite locker with security 8 do the trick or should I get the chunky one shown in this video? Cheers

  • Some turd stole my bicycle saddle from the bicycle racks

  • @CasaCamuzzi omg now im worried, thefts would steal anything

  • Comment removed

  • Register your bike, what with who the police..just another way for them to keep track of you..

  • um does anyone have any tips on how not to get kicked off your bike ? Locking a bike, yeah I've understood that part but a lot of people Around where I live just get kicked off =S

  • I have three locks at my place of work. Lock the wheels to the frame and the frame to a strongpoint :-)

  • Well I'm none the wiser.....

  • thats why you gotta think like a crook all the time

  • lol at 2:04.

    "chunky u-lock and meaty chain"

  • This is all so depressing. I want to go green and take the car off the road (well, I just took the car off the road last week), cycling to meetings instead. However, everywhere I look for safety tips leave me feeling having a bike stolen while I'm with a client is a given, no matter what precautions I take. And then I think "Oh, Kryptonite locks look secure" and find a ton of videos on youtube showing them being picked with biros! *sob*

  • Here's a good tip: Shift your chain to the big chain ring in the front and to the bid cog in the back before you park your bike. When its parked, move your shifters so your chain will fall towards the small chain rings. Any person try to pedal away with your bike is going to get hurt !

Make sure you dont forget... you'll get hurt too !

  • this video accualy shows you how to steal bikes ;D

  • @VRTO92 how ?

you mean you didnt know metal cutters existed ?

  • @ripousse lol lol lol I knewww, but video.. its just.. ah fuck this..

  • thieves can't afford a got damn bike.

  • So.. if they don´t get it - they smash it beyond food and evil

A cheap lock is the best - it stops 90% of the opportunity thiefs. the 10% of professionals or vandals will get it, or if they don´t get it, they crush and kick it in only a few seconds.

how can anyone think a fucking steel-bit can protect a fragile bike...

    easy earned money, nothing else

  • Can you do a special on how to tie your running shoes?

  • @CarltonReid. People will steal YOU and I if they can. I have a U-Lock for my Raleigh Mojave 2.0 bicycle. I am going to buy another one for my front wheel now. It would be really cool if we could put a electric shock system on our bikes and electricute the heck out of thieves. You video was so helpful, thank you so much.

  • great vid!

  • Lock it up, register it and most important, TAG it up.

  • Well, I've registered my bike, leave it outside for only an hour at a time, and secure the rear frame and front tire (like 1:46) to racks mounted into concrete. But I can't get the rear tire in w/0:50's kryptonite & cable. Hope they don't mind the rear wheel!

But I agree with everything you said. I attend a college where everybody rides bikes and I can't tell you how many poorly locked bikes I've seen parked or stripped. Thieves are ruthless! They unbolted my bent but unlocked steel wheel.

  • helpful thanks

  • HAHHAHAHA

  • thanks a lot... very useful info

  • there is nothing you can really count on except taking the bike with you. and that is the true fact. all the locks can be broken and even if you take a tire or the seat, if you have a bike they want they will take it when you stop for the traffic light. i know.

  • Not many people carry really big chain cutters. That's why i have a U LOCK.

  • watch the you tube and lock pickers, they can defeat the u lock with a bic pen, or a beer can metal bent, there is just no lock that they can 't break,i have had even two u locks on my bike, i just don't get really nice bikes anymore, they get stolen.

  • Lol.... I have 20 locks on my moto.... and two pounds in keys:)

  • you must be in a fairly nice area, where i live they would knock a person off one of those and just take it.

  • will the kryptonite ny fegetaboutit u lock fit around he frame wheel and bike rack i have a kona blast plz reply

  • Depends what you're locking it to, I guess. Why lock the rack, though? If in doubt use a socking great motorcycle lock. Too big to carry but perhaps you could store it at your locking location?

  • I have seen places with just a lock locked up, and I swear this is the owner leaving it at their work or something for use when they get there.

D Lock + "Wire" without it's own look seems like a good idea, use a thinner wire part just to secure your front wheel and seat, and use the key for the d lock to secure it. Don't know why I never thought of that before.

Not that I ever want to leave my bike out anywhere, druggies here will steal anything even if its only worth £10.

  • Thank you I will be using those tips.

  • my bike just got stolen again:( hate low life criminals. It especially sucks if you get it stolen with a lock on.

  • Good point regarding the Bike Registry. And as mentioned, NEVER use a ANY cable as a primary means of securing any bike that you would rather keep.

  • May I just add that in addition to the excellent advice given in this video, that D lock users fill the lock as much as possible with wheel, frame, post, anything, just make sure that D is filled, don't just leave in hanging there because it can be easily broken with the appropriate tool.

    Nice work Carlton.

  • You know what I hate, is that there are people out there who take your bikes. Imagine locking your bike when thieves don't exist, there wouldn't be any point! and that's what I want, to know that people aren't going to steal my bike if I leave it around, but, that's just too much to ask for.

  • That's called a perfect world and it'll never exist. That's why they invented Kryptonite!

  • @carltonreid maybe you should watch this: /watch?v=PCxHD9_uEf8. Kryptonite round key locks are the easiest ones to open. They're just making you think they are secured by selling them the high price.

  • @RSmovieshere it does exist in the Muslim world. If you steal you get your hand cut off. Thats why no one steals over there. People will think twice about stealing when their hands are on the line.

  • @DerivativeXY very true

  • @RSmovieshere

    I agree. Thieves stink.

  • @RSmovieshere WHAT? ofcourse you lock your bike even if there are no thieves maybe someone would just take the bike thinking noone owns it. and im no thief but if free stuff is presented to me on a pillow im not going to refuse it

  • @RSmovieshere Thats what I always think. That there ARE people out there who have the nerve and dont care how much time and money you spent on it. Cars don't get stolen half as much and they look and are more money. Of course they're bulker but still, just the respect ppl have for each other. No wonder we live cruel lives. Cant even respect one another!!

  • Well the best thing is to buy some cheap shitty bike for 20$-30$ and ure fine, no one is gonna bother even looking at it.

    =)

  • I just bought one two weeks ago on craigslist for $60, crapper, somebody took off the front wheel.

  • @markok27 cheap, shitty and already once stolen you mean. ;D

  • @vicisrussian Its all about sharing...

    ;-)

  • good advice

  • LMFAO 0:32

  • hahahah

  • ahaha its so funny

  • I noticed where I live quite a few of those bike racks in supermarkets etc aren't concreted down. I don't know if the scum bags have loosened them purposely but it's a potential trap for the unwary!

  • I use a D-Lock for the frame, and picked up two cheap cable locks for like £15 in a sale and use them on the wheels.

The last part about thieves not bothering with doing 2 or 3 locks is, I'd say, good advice. I haven't had my bike nicked in the past year.

  • yeh u lock solid steel cant be cut wiht normal cutter u need realyt big ones

  • Buy big, buy tough. Or bye-bye bike.

  • Where do you lock your bike if theres bike racks?

  • Same rules apply, as you can put the rear of a bike into a rack - use a U-lock around the rear wheel and maybe a cable for the front wheel.

  • I always find that the rule of "spend 10% of your bikes value on a lock" to be a bit hit and miss. I would rather use a couple of £90 locks on a 300 quid bike and still have a bike than have a £30 lock cut off.

Cable locks are usually a waste of money too. Get a D/U and a chain lock like you'd use for a motorbike.
